Chapter 16

A crease on the delicate forehead, coupled with a few sighs, was heard inside the delicately decorated suite. Checking the watch on his wrist from time to time, Jaxon made it known that he wanted nothing to do with what was about to transpire inside the room.

A glare was cast towards Clifford who failed to suppress the teasing grin emerging from his face.

The latter winked and turned away from him as if he wanted more fuel to the fire.

"This idiot..."

Jaxon muttered a curse as he felt irritation course through his veins.

A manic laugh played inside Clifford's head as he looked back at the infamous CEO who, now, resembled a constipated tiger.

Twelve minutes?

He bet that guy would not even last three minutes!

Now, it was a matter of time before the bomb was going to drop.

Fishing the phone out of his pocket, he checked if they have arrived.

Nice.

They've finally arrived at the seaside hotel.

The time for the curtians to fall was not bound to happen.

Yet...

Once Jaxon leaves, he can finally come back to his fiancee and have that bastard deliver a speech in his wedding.

It was a win-win situation.

Something he has meticulously planned for a long time.

'You can no longer deny me, Jaxon!'

Jaxon lowered shifted on his seat unconsciously, as he felt a sense of foreboding.

He knew that his stupid friend had something stupid in mind but he could not guess what the weirdo wanted from him.

Anyways...

When was the party going to start?

He was going impatient since this seaside hotel was quite far away from the city. Jaxon wanted nothing but to leave for the comfort of his own home.

The travel time back home would take him at least three hours.

Although he could borrow Clifford's yacht, there was no way in hell he would be something that stupid.

That jerk always wanted something in return.

Going down that path was akin to walking voluntarily into a trap.

If there was a word to describe something that Clifford lacked, it would definitely be the word,"Goodwill."

'Forget it.'

Twleve minutes...

It's not that long, isn't it?

Jaxon threw a glance at the other men present in the room. Most of them were a couple years older than Jaxon. Still they were a notable existence in the business industry. Most held high ranking positions in large companies.

They looked like they enjoyed the occasion and were cordial with each other However, some things are different from what meets the eye.

Jaxon was not a victim of such pretenses. He could sense the hidden animosity some of them held towards each other.

He smirked and met Clifford's eyes.

'You sneaky bastard... So you wanted to keep them in check, huh?'

Jaxon took the bottle of expensive alcohol on the center table and poured a small amount on a glass.

He laid his back against the leather sofa and sipped on his drink.

Clifford wanted to laugh as he noticed the look on Jaxon's face. He guessed that the latter read too much on the current situation and had his own assumptions.

'Too bad, my friend. I'm not doing this for them but for you.'

Ahh. Yes...

They're here.

*Ding!

The doorbell of the huge suite rang announcing the arrival of someone or something...

A noticeable expression was apparent on the host's face.

Jaxon could not help but furrow his brows.

Clifford walked briskly and opened the double doors of the large suite.

His odd body language failed to deny his 'evil scheme.'

A large conspicuous box that had decorations resembling a ship entered the room.

The guests inside clapped their hands as if they knew what was going on. Meanwhile jaxon was left with a frown, wondering how something so bizarre entered his field of vision.

'What the hell is that thing?'

"Pfft--"

He turned his head towards the source of the stifled laughter and came to a conclusion that it was none other than Clifford.

Clifford raised a brow as a response to his glare and signaled him to focus on the gigantic box.

Suddenly, the sides of the box crumbled down as the lights dimmed. A song that was commonly heard on clubs played on the background and some lights lit up around the box making it look like a mini stage.

Girls dressed up in skimpy dresses and revealing outfits made their way out of the box and danced sexily towards the men in the room.

Baffled by the sudden turn of events, Jaxon's facial expression turned blank.

Who knew that this imbecile would do something so ridiculous?

Albeit, he found that the time spent inside the damn room was something he could have spent in peace.

Most importantly...

How did the tidy hotel room from a few moments ago, turn into a strip club all of a sudden?

'Alright, I'm out. Enough with this shit show.'

Jaxon swore that he felt one of the veins of his head relocate to his neck and was starting to strangle him.

He stood up immediately and searched for the cause of his rising blood pressure.

There he found his dear friend....

Standing...

On the corner...

Intentionally far away from him.

'This asshole...'

"I'm leaving."

Jaxon stated this as a fact, nowhere near as asking for anyone's permission.

Briskly walking towards Clifford, the latter's face was smug.

"Oh! Hello there. Do you really mean that? I mean, the show had just started. Come on, Jaxon. You'll be missing out. "

"..."

Jaxon turned on his heel, simply exhausted with dealing with the moron. Suddenly, he was stopped by a hand grabbing his shoulder.

Clifford whispered something under his breath that Jaxon failed to hear but looking at the former's all-ears smile, he must've won his stupid game.

" That's a pity Jaxon. Well, I can't do anything about that but..."

Glancing back to Clifford, only to find him looking at his watch, Jaxon felt something amiss.

" Right. It's only been five minutes."

His eyebrows furrowed.

Five minutes?

Wait, what was the deal again?

Twelve...

Right.

It's twelve fucking minutes.
