Prince Hinrik opened his mouth to say something when a scream echoed from the forest. Another followed it in a different direction.
A third cry echoed, followed by horses neighing.
Both monarchs turned their heads in the direction of the screams. A few seconds later, horse hooves galloped, approaching where they were at.
Before they could be trodden over by the frightened animals, Prince Hinrik pulled Ysabel aside, using the tree for cover, and held her close.
Two horses rushed past, leaving a gust of wind and dust in their wake.
When they were away, Prince Hinrik turned to check if Ysabel was alright. She was staring at him; the expression on her face was unreadable.
But the tension between them rose to a certain level that Ysabel pushed him off, clearing her throat right after.
"You are purposely increasing my debts," Ysabel scoffed. She looked at Prince Hinrik with disdain.
But her heart betrayed her in an instant.
