He parked, and went to the door. He was in civilian clothes, but as he got out his wallet to pay the bouncer, he recognized Brian.

“Oh, shit,” the man grumbled. “What now?”

“Huh?” Brian looked at him in confusion. “I, uh, how much to go in?”

The bouncer gave him an assessing look. “You’re not arresting anyone?”

“No,” Brian said, slightly miffed. He hadn’t even arrested anyone last time he was here. “I, uh. Look, how much to get in?”

Finally the bouncer caught on. “Don’t sweat it, it’s on the house.”

“What? No, I’ll pay. How much?”

“Don’t worry about it.” The guy gave Brian an obvious wink.

Brian couldn’t believe this. Well, actually, he could, there was bound to be plenty of cops who took advantage of businesses this way.

But Brian wasn’t one of them.

“I’m just a regular paying customer,” he insisted. “How much?”
