Seraphine and I set off on our patrol, the early morning sun casting a golden hue over the landscape. As we walked through the forest, the air was crisp, and the birds sang cheerfully, seemingly oblivious to the dark threats lurking nearby. I couldn't help but feel a strange mix of anticipation and unease.
"So, Riley," Seraphine said, her tone playful. "Did you sleep well last night?"
I shot her a sidelong glance, feeling a blush creep up my cheeks. "You know I did, Seraphine. You were right there."
She chuckled, the sound rich and melodic. "Just making sure. You seemed pretty content, all snuggled up next to me."
"Content?" I huffed, trying to sound indignant. "You practically smothered me with your arms."
Seraphine raised an eyebrow, a teasing smile playing on her lips. "Oh? I thought you liked being held."
I rolled my eyes, but a small smile tugged at my lips despite myself. "You have a very high opinion of yourself."
