I carried Ember in my arms, his small form surprisingly warm and comforting as he snuggled into my chest. His soft snores filled the quiet of the castle halls as I made my way inside, his tiny claws clinging to the fabric of my dress.
The peaceful moment of having the little dragon asleep in my arms was almost too serene especially after the chaos he'd caused earlier. I should have known it wouldn't last.
As I turned the corner, I spotted a group of servants coming down the hallway. They were deep in conversation, hands full with linens and trays. When they noticed me, their eyes immediately drifted down to Ember.
"Oh my gods, is that Ember?" one of the maids exclaimed, dropping the linens she had been carrying. "He's adorable!"
Before I could respond, a crowd of servants started to gather. It was as if the sight of a tiny dragon peacefully curled up in my arms was the most exciting thing they had ever seen.
