Chapter 57: Jill Becomes a Game Player
After freshening up and donning my uniform, I stepped out of my dorm room, ready to have a serious conversation with Jill and Chiyodo. While the revelation of the Deity Game's content was irrelevant to me, certain things were better discussed upfront.
"Ah, Zhang Fan, please come in," Jill greeted me without surprise as I arrived at her house in Raccoon City. Unlike the police dorms, she had her own place. Her demeanor suggested she had been expecting me.
"Is Chiyodo here too?" I asked as I followed Jill into her two-story house. Entering the spacious living room, I found Chiyodo seated on the sofa, sipping tea with a smile.
"Yes, we knew you wouldn't resist coming, so we've been waiting for you," Chiyodo said respectfully as she rose to greet me.
"Oh? You've figured it out," I mused, not surprised by their deduction given their astuteness.
"Yes, but I haven't revealed anything about the Deity Game to Jill before. I only explained it later," Chiyodo clarified, her usual seriousness unwavering.
"I understand now. Jill, you're a game player too? I never noticed before," I remarked, realizing why she was aware of the game if Chiyodo hadn't told her.
"You're sharp. That's exactly it," Chiyodo affirmed, relieved that I didn't misconstrue her intentions.
"I'm curious, Jill, when did you become a game player? As far as I know, you were born in this world. How did you return to it?" I pondered, intrigued by her unique situation.
"I only became a game player yesterday after taking your pill. I heard the Deity System explaining the game rules, then it announced that I was already in a mission world and gave me a task," Jill recounted, still finding it surreal.
"So, that's how it happened," I acknowledged, noting the rarity of her experience. I had hoped to bring Chiyodo to the world of 'A Certain Magical Index,' but it seemed my plan was thwarted.
"Now you understand everything. So, have you completed your tasks?" I asked, changing the subject. My own missions were accomplished, but what about Jill and Chiyodo?
"Mine is done. The task was to investigate the mansion and eliminate the Tyrants, which you already took care of," Jill said nonchalantly.
"My main mission is complete, too.
I was wondering if there's a follow-up to the main mission," Chiyodo added, curious about the continuation of her assignment.
"I'm not sure about that, but I'll ask the system," I replied, realizing I hadn't received any further updates on my missions or side quests.
"There will be a charge of 100 game points for this inquiry," came the unexpected response from Cai Cai, the Deity System's interface. It seemed she had transformed into a business-minded entity.
"Is that so? Alright then," I conceded, handing over the game points. Once paid, Cai Cai satisfactorily answered my question.
It turned out that after completing the main mission, if the system didn't issue any further tasks, players had the option to conclude their mission. Of course, players could also continue to explore and find clues to trigger subsequent main missions.
If players chose to end their mission, they would be automatically returned to their exclusive space in the game, where they could decide whether to rest or embark on a new mission.
"Is it really that simple?" I questioned, feeling slightly cheated by Cai Cai's rather straightforward explanation.
"Alright, if you're not satisfied, I can offer you another piece of information for free," Cai Cai said, sensing my dissatisfaction. She seemed to be playing a role more akin to a whimsical character than a typical emotionless system.
"Let's hear it then," I said, amused by her antics.
Cai Cai then provided additional insight, possibly regarding future missions or other relevant information.
After resolving the mysteries of the game and learning about Jill's new role as a player, I prepared to leave. As I exited, I thought about the events that had unfolded and the implications of Jill's sudden induction into the Deity Game. The complexities of this game world never ceased to amaze me.
