Chapter 49: Restoring Balance

Chris POV:

“Help me take him back. We’ll need the proof,” Chris motioned toward where Len’s bloodied body lay.

Chris grabbed the arms of Len and Jacob grabbed his legs. He helped to heft the lifeless body up.

It strained his muscles and the wound in his shoulder.

He would need to get pieced back together after this.

All of them would.

“Chris, I hope you know that I didn’t betray the pack, not like Len thought,” Jacob began, hefting the body a bit higher.

“Where have you been then?” Chris asked.

He wondered briefly if Jacob thought of fighting on Len’s side as a losing battle and switched over.

“I was captured at the border when the fighting first started. I pretended to go along with Len so that I could find Olivya. She wasn’t with him. I hoped that if I stayed with him long enough, I’d get an opportunity to kill him,” Jacob explained and Chris nodded.

Len’s henchmen outnumbered Chris and Asa. For Jacob to choose their side, that meant something.
