Chapter 29: Mission Impossible

Since I'm already going this far, I might as well go visit school because classes are about to end soon, and I might see Jess. I was hiding on the parking spot where she would normally leave with her friends almost every day. While I was waiting and sat behind a Volkswagen Beetle, I was picking up from where I left off in the book and it's all still unnecessary information again.

My head was diverted by the entire 'THE MAGUS IS ALIVE' thing for the entire time. I was starting to have my doubts about the whole thing. Harold mentioned that Donny was insane, so maybe he's just made up the thing. If he did, then I wondered if there would be any other story that could've been made up. That would mean I didn't actually learn anything from his story, then. That would be a big waste of time. I mean, how could 'Magus' be possibly correlated to a story like this? Guess that's why they didn't write his tale. I sigh.

This whole thing is draining my will to go on.

I heard the school bell ring and I make sure to hide suitably so I can surprise Jess. A couple of other students come outside and I'm glad they can't see me. I immediately spot her the moment she goes out. Staring at her immediately lifted my mood up a bit. She seriously looks amazing. The view reminded me of the night I met her.

There I was, a month-ish ago.

I was at a party of someone I didn't even know the name of. Cyrus and Theo forced me to come because they were going to do another one of their stupid monthly, party-pranks. And somehow I got in because there were no guards this time. They said, that time, that I had an important task to do too but they dashed off their own. So, I was left alone with a red cup specifically on my right hand sitting on that uncomfortable brown sofa while there was a couple hitting it off on the side anyone would see in a youth movie.

No one really cared or noticed me at that point. It wasn't the first time I've ever been to a party, and it certainly wouldn't have been the first time I'd not be bullied. No, the party was important. I never really knew why, but it definitely wasn't a normal party. Everything was doubled… the drinks, the volume of the EDM music, the people constantly coming in, the breakage of multiple random house objects, the stupid shouts and chants, the intense games. Probably someone's birthday. It really was a wonder why I was sitting awkwardly and patiently between people shoving their faces against each other when I could have just left by now. Eventually realizing that, I look at the door and try to calculate the best time to leave because of the crowd.

And then I saw her eyes.

That's the first thing I saw. And everything stopped. It wasn't love at first sight or anything. I'd always known about Jessica, but she'd never bullied me. Even verbally. We knew nothing about each other and didn't care. But that night, I felt the tiniest spark of something when I saw her. Jessica was with her usual group of friends that she's been inseparable with. They chatted at the entrance for a bit and she laughed. God, she laughed. Like an angel smiling. Then they went across the room, across me, and headed down to the basement.

Her face was still flashing through my mind and I continued drinking from the red cup on my hand, which is surprisingly fine and still not empty. When it was, I think that's when I've gotten unconscious because the whole plan of me leaving the party failed and instead, I was making my way to the kitchen looking for more beverages. And that's when Jessica reentered the conversation. Again, I think I was kinda drunk, but I remember we had a sweet conversation. I think we were flirting. I think we danced. I think we had some more fun. Like real fun.

Then I'm here, currently staring at her as her boyfriend. I smiled after I recalled those events, and I was about to stand until all her gang went out. I bend my knees again.

Jess is with Piera Shay again. I forgot about her for a second. I hesitate. I remember seeing her hanging out with her the other day so I thought it would be fine. But I can't just come up to her anymore. And then a guy I didn't know the name puts his arms around her. Oh. Well, that just made it worse. I can't disturb her when she's hanging around her friends.

"Sucks, eh?"

My heart skipped a beat and I look behind me to reveal Mr. Teach. Well now it's all worser-er.

"Uh…" I stood up slowly not knowing what to do.

Instead, he spoke again, "That's your girl. With another boy."

Oh, well that was different. "I trust her, okay? She's my girlfriend. She's like this with all her friends."

"Yeah, sure thing." It took me a while to realize that he was holding a Slurpee. He takes a sip before saying, "It also sucks that you're not attending classes, Mr. Harrison."

I slump, "Riiight… I wasn't feeling too well and plus, we're not even doing much in class."

"Well, whatever it is you're up to, I hope you're working on that art project. Deadline's 2 days." He slurped his drink again.

Oops, I almost forgot about that, too. "Yeah, I am working really hard on it. It's going great." Definitely.

"That's good to hear. I know you don't disappoint. You haven't been the best student, but you're a great artist." Mr. Teach raises his eyebrows.

"Oh, thanks."

Mr. Teach switches to full teacher mode and goes in his car, "Now, go back to school tomorrow or I'll have you to detention on the last day of school. And if you're not there either, you're in on Saturday. I'll make you go. I know where you live, alright?"

"Yes, sir!"

He drives away quickly, and I look back at Jessica who was also inside a car with her friends. They leave, too, and when they passed by me Jessica, still fairly close to the guy from earlier, finally noticed me with an alarmed look in her face without saying anything. I just smile sweetly directly at her eyes and wave until the car was out of sight.

I take a deep breath and finish up the book while I was sitting on my dirt bike. Well, that's the end of that. Next up, read the book that Rose was talking about. It might be irrelevant to the whole thing but might as well. I've already gone this far. Although, she does go home much later than me, so I guess I have the whole day to myself now, huh?

All I could do now is give this book back to Yuki and I'm free. But first, I should give myself a little break as a prize.
