Chapter 3 Before the Main Event

After months of training together, Amber being one of the bravest people Gabriel knew, even more so than his older brother Radiant, Amber wanted to sneak out and fight a few Kobolds. After all, they had weapons training and unarmed training at school, and with her "Read the wind skill", what could go wrong? The next day after school let out, they decided to try Amber's plan. All they would have to do is fight some Kobolds and retreat before anyone noticed they were gone, which wouldn't be hard to do since both being the youngest in their family and their family had other matters to attend to.

In this world they did have major cities and towns in the security zones, their high school was like any typical high school. Students there would wear a basic uniform plus whatever equipment they may have. But outside of the cities and safety post, there was still a dangerous beast, demons, and monsters that roamed the land and set up their own villages. Just a couple miles outside of the city where the Renard family lived, which wasn't a far distance to a cultivator, there was a forest that monsters occupied. That afternoon, Amber, Tempest, and Gabriel left school together like usual before a storm hit, even though it was still hot summertime, there were storm clouds in the sky that added an oppressing feeling to the day, as well as blocking out the sun making everything look dark and gloomy.

Once out of the city, the trio of Gabriel, Amber, and Tempest arrived on the outskirts of the Kobolds' forest location, which has been well documented but the government left for training new personal with real combat experience. Moving with the greatest care, the party was able to sneak into the Kobolds forest, while doing so they spotted a few "Kobolds scouts" who failed to notice their party. Gabriel thought it was because of Amber's Read the Wind ability and Tempest "Hunt" skill, so he never thought anything more about how easy this was going for the group. From school, they knew most Kobolds status were as followed

However they knew there could be stronger or weaker ones, but basically, they should be able to win a fight one on one or three on one with a Kobold.

After about 30 minutes, they realized something was wrong, they haven't snuck up on one Kobold yet and the scouts were always around them, but they didn't discover the trio. That's when the lightning started and they realized they have fallen into the Kobolds trap. The Kobolds had led the trio deeper and deeper into the encampment so they could surround them without the humans being able to escape. Just then a large Kobold about the same size as Amber, who was half of her head taller than Gabriel, stepped in front of them and let and a huge roar! As the roar died down, the younger Kobold scouts started circling Amber Tempest and Gabriel, as if it was some kind of game for them, the party of three was surrounded by 10 scouts pulling out their knives and clubs ready to attack.

The first Kobold attacked Gabriel, even though it was dark, Gabriel was able to see the blade and disarm the Kobold while flipping the Kobold over his shoulder, luckily now they at least had a weapon since their magic wasn't strong enough yet. The Kobold fell hard on its back and at that moment Amber gave it a hard kick to its face sending it back to the entrapment. Just as the other Kobolds looked like they were going to rush in after seeing their comrade hit, Amber learned and immediately activated a new skill "Flame Wall", a defensive skill that made a wall of fire. One could pass through the firewall but will probably burn before making it out the other side if their fire resistance wasn't high enough.

When the party relaxed just a little bit, thinking the Flame wall would keep them safe, the clouds opened up and started raining. Seeing the shield weakening the Kobolds laughed like Hyenas stalking their prey. Fearing the worst, Gabriel communicated with Tempest through their connection and said "when the flames die down, take Amber out of here, I will attack them first and try to buy as much time as possible!" Tempest didn't want to agree but even the young tiger knew that it would be either one of them died, or all of them died. Even if by some miracle they were able to beat the 10 scouts, there was another three stronger-looking Kobolds next to what looks like the chief.

About 30 Seconds later the Shield died down and even before Amber could react Gabriel lunged out at one of the Kobolds. Being caught off guard Gabriel was able to drive the knife into the kobold shoulder, but was unable to pull it out, however without losing momentum Gabriel spun on his lead leg and kicked the next Kobold in the chest sending it flying 3 meters away. By the time the kick landed Tempest had already grabbed Amber in his teeth and started to run through the opening created by Gabriel, much to Amber begging Tempest to stop. With two Kobolds down and one hurt, Tempest already left the entrapment with Amber. Now Gabriel was alone with no weapon and was quickly running out of ideas.
