The Broken Sword

The worthless swordsman or the broken sword. that was what people called me. my name long since forgotten by everyone but me. despite the fact that I was one of the best swordsman that could be bought. no these unusual nicknames came from the fact that I never had so much as a copper on me. my equipment was all old and worn. some of it being repair. the most valuable thing I owned was my horse. the reason behind my poverty was simple. I never took coin as payment. only rations, repair, room and board. there was a reason I never took coin as payment, but that was my secret. a secret I never intended to let anyone find.

"How would you know that?" I could feel the affect of whatever she had done to me slowly wearing off.

"Oh yes that," Faith smiled, "Wait, did you forget the conversation we had last night?"

I stared at her as she stared at me. Trying to think of when I'd last spoken to a woman. I should remember something like that since I avoided women. They either had jewelry on or were ladies of the night most of the time so it was common sense for me to avoid them. Especially since any kind of jewel affected me the same way coins did.

"No," I frowned, "I do not remember you."

"That really doesn't surprise me now that I'm thinking about it," Faith sat back calmly, "You did have a great deal happen after we met."

"Your name isn't Faith either is it," I frowned as the topic of memory had reminded me of how long she had paused when I had asked her name.

"Yes," Faith seemed taken off guard by the change in subject, "My name is Faith."

"You honestly had to think about your name that long," I stared at her blankly.

"Fine it's an alias," Faith snapped, "I will not be giving you my real name. Not right now."

"That means you're probably some sort of noble or important figure," I stared off to the side at my saddle for a moment.

Luckily it didn't seem to be damaged. I whistled for my horse. The bread had breathed new life into me, but it wouldn't last long. I started to get up.

"What are you doing?" Faith seemed to panic slightly.

"I need to get moving," I waved her away as I got to my feet.

"Why?" Faith turned away as I started pulling my clothes on.

"I need to get to work," I managed to get my under clothes on.

"You are in no condition to work," Faith spun around.

"I don't work," I pulled my pants on slowly fastening them in place, "I don't eat."
