Some minutes before The Cowfering begin

"Alright, i'll give a brief. All of us will hunt the Calden's grup like usual, scout them, sweep the Minotaurs, then take down the Calden."

It takes only a second to make the vibe suddenly tense.

"I want all of you to ensure each of Minotaurs exactly dead one by one. Then whoever has spatial magic beside Yuki, snatch the body right off the bat. But!"

Vanheir's roar stiffen more the members of Alpha party.

"But our main aim is the Calden. If it's too risky, don't care the Minotaurs. Even if the other party steal the Minotaurs, just focus on the Calden. The Minotaurs point is insignificant compared to the Calden. At this point are there any questions?"

"Sorry sir, may i kill the Minotaur alone? That way the others can push another minotaur more effectively and we can hunt faster." (Kairen)

"Don't make me repeat myself, kid. I don't care with your confidence but in this festival the main point is everyone safety!"

"Y-yessir..."

Kairen immediately back off and doesn't dare to object anymore.

"So i want four of you make into two teams. Each partner of you has to make sure the Minotaur is dead, even if you're sure already."

"Don't be reckless, your greed can affect your whole party. So all of you just follow my order!"

"Y-yes sir!"

All of four A-rankers answer in unison, including the sulking Kairen.

"Mr. Duran, you become the scout as usual. Watch the surrounding. And if possible, observe and help both of the teams. Your priority is same as i said, everyone safety. It's your judgement between the surrounding or helping them."

"Alright, sir."

Duran scratches his head realizing his task is quite troublesome.

"And the final statement, it's the direct order from the Guild master. Yuki and I may move separately from you lot. So if this boy realizes something anomaly happens, we will go on our own way. In that case, i'll place the command on Mr. Duran since all of your safety is his responsibility."

"Geez...please take it easy on me, everyone." Duran feels more troubled now, he thinks that he won't be able to hunt nice and slow.

"That's all of it, anyone feels to oppose this decision. Please step out right now."

"S-sir, i don't mean to oppose, but may i ask the reason that Yuki can move on his own pace?" (Ludor)

"I don't know the details, but that's the Guild master's decision to give this boy that priviledge. Ask him by yourself later."

"T-thanks, sir."

"Alright, prepare all of your needs. Just bring the ones you get used of it. Remember, one mistake cost your life."

[All members of Alpha party review their equipments again. They want to live up to Vanheir's expectation besides the fact that this is the first cowfering for the 4 A-rankers.]

"Boy, how's your end? You sure bring all of your needs?"

"Yes, oldman. I've prepared already my equipments and plans for this cowfering."

"Hmm? Since when?"

"This morning when i ask the details to Mrs. Rinne."

"Guuhh...boy, i don't know if that's overconfident or stupid. Just keep sharp and don't take any risk. You'll help yourself getting outta here, you hear me?"

"Right, oldman. It's your third warning."

"Grrr...whatever.."

[There is not a single sign, but suddenly thunderous roars are heard across

the forest.]

MWOOOOO!!!

GUUOOO!!!

[Hearing those cries, The assembly area is filled with the tense and nervousness but no fear. The cries even reach to the city.]

"Hmm they're appeared, sir." (Duran)

"Seems like it, friend." (Vanheir)

BWOOONG!!!!

[Not long after the frightening cries, the war trumphet is blown again. It indicates the beginning of the hunt.]

"Alright guys, time to move!"

"Yessir!!"

Each party takes their own route, coincidentally we take the route that i used when the first time i arrived in this world.

"Aah..it reminds me, we met around here right?"

"Yes, mister. Didn't expect i'll use this path again."

"Haha indeed, boy."

"Hey, hey keep your guard up, both of you.

It's near the spawn area."

"Ah, sorry sir." Duran smiles awkwardly realizing his mistake.

"Chill out, oldman. I'm spreading my detection right now." Not like Duran, Yuki answers confidently.

"Heehh?? Are you sure not too arrogant here? By the way How far is it, damn boy?"

"3 kilometers, sir. It's far enough to prevent an ambush."

"Whaaatt?! The heck?!" (Vanheir)

His eyes almost got out from its socket.

"Haha i can't be surprised anymore, Yuki."

(Ludor)

"Yuuukiii~ can i be your girlfriend??"

Cleo gaze at Yuki with her sparkling eyes.

"W-wait, Cleo! Don't steal the staaartt~ we made a promiiise~"

"Hehe i can't hold it anymore, Fanya~ since Yuki is much more amazing the more i know him~"

"Geez braaats!! Shutup, willya?! We're in the midst of demonic forest! Are you not afraid of dying?!!"

"Y-yes sir...pardon uuus~" (Fanya & Cleo)

"Alright Yuki, you're at the front. Tell us when the time comes. The rest of you set your stance, we're closer to the inner area. Other parties should begin already."

BOOOOM!!

*Rumble rumble*

"Aaah...that's what i said."

"Pheeew *whistle* it seems your instinct still accurate, sir."

The other members can't say anything to the comment as the prediction is too accurate.

"Alright guys, we'll hasten our move!

Don't lose to others!"

"Alright sir!!" (Everyone)

"Ok, i'll move ahead. Please maintain our distance."

As Yuki said that, he dashes out to the deep forest.

"Alright, all of you follow him!"

The rest of them immediately chase after Yuki and do their best to shorten their distance. But it looks like Yuki is too fast.

"Uumm sir, do you see Yuki..anywhere?"

(Kairen)

"Chills brat, i can still detect his presence ahead, we take the right way." (Vanheir)

"Ugh..okay if that's what you say, sir."

(Kairen)

"But...i can't see him either, though."

(Cleo)

One by one, they start to doubt their senses.

"Easy all of you, sir Vanheir told you the truth. Though i know your doubt about, he's too fast for us to catch up....

I'm sure we're only late a few seconds?"

"Good to know your sense still sharp, old friend. You heard him alright, brats? So don't ignore his words from time to time."

"R-right sir."

"And here i am proud to be told by Capt. Pierrun as one of the fastest runner he's ever seen. But i can't catch up to Yuki" *sigh* (Cleo)

"My advice, don't trust any praise. You'll see much more strange things the longer you work in this line of job." (Vanheir)

In the mid of their pursue, suddenly Duran tell Vanheir about Yuki's position.

"He stopped for a while, sir."

"Alright, slow down guys."

They finally look at Yuki's back.

The moment Cleo wants to complain to Yuki, she's stopped by Vanheir.

"S-sir..?" (Cleo)

"Quietly, brat. Walk quietly, I sense them."

*Whisper* (Vanheir)

When Cleo hears that, she immediately close her mouth with her right hand.

It's then followed by the tense of others.

Except Kairen, who's curious with Vanheir's serious face. Never crossed in his mind that even the S-ranker like Vanheir can make such a face.

"W-what is it, sir?" *Whisper* (Kairen)

"Our objective, boy." (Duran)

Realized what he means, Kairen can only gulp his own curiosity.

"How many, Yuki?" (Vanheir)

"Seven, oldman. One Calden, Six Minotaurs. And there's a lone Calden quite close from here." (Yuki)

Duran suddenly make a shocked expression. Same with Vanheir. They've never experienced such event. But still as the leader, Vanheir tries to cool his head.

"How close?" (Vanheir)

"Around 300 metres to Southwest."

(Yuki)

"Grrrhh..." (Vanheir)

Vanheir realizes that it's really close considering its movement speed.

[The Calden is known having speed as fast as Raging Bulnoros, with top speed 124km/ hour reached in only 10 minutes.]

[Furthermore their sensitive nose can sniff out everything in radiance of 500 metres. Once the lone Calden sniff the Alpha party around, surely it'll rush all the way to them.]

"Lone Calden?" (Ludor)

"That's sure quite abnormal." (Duran)

"B-but w-we already have this many...." (Fanya)

"What do we do, sir?" (Cleo)

"Is there another party around, boy?

Vanheir still compose himself and hopes if there's a chance to survive.

"The nearest is 1km away in the east."

(Yuki)

Though His wish is answered with the worst luck.

"Damn, it's the worst case.

We're on our own..."

"I think it's opportunity, sir. We don't need to worry about thief." (Kairen)

"So you're confident to take two Caldens by yourself? Huh?!" (Vanheir)

Vanheir let out his frustation on Kairen.

"Uugh...pardon me, sir." (Kairen)

Kairen immediately lose his confidence by Vanheir's question. Though he only means to think positively, He knows his limit.

"Your order, sir." (Duran)

"Ugghh..alright you brats, from now on don't ask why. Just focus on my order."

"Yeess-!!"

"Ssshhh!!!" (Vanheir and Duran)

"O-okay siirr" *whisper*

"From now on you four kill the minotaurs one by one, start with ranged attack by you girls. Strike them with your most powerful single attack, not area attack."

"We'll do, siiirr!" *Whisper* (girls)

"When the Minotaurs come closer, you boys start to slaughter them one by one. You girls make sure to decrease their amount before they're getting too near."

"Leave it to us, sir!" *Whisper*

(A-rankers)

"Duran if possible, lay out emergency message to other party. But your priority is to support them. Make sure they kill the minotaurs safely and as fast as possible."

"Ugh...they're two contradicting things, sir." (Duran)

His complain is ignored by Vanheir.

"Don't concern with the Caldens' move, leave them to us." (Vanheir)

"U-us..sir?" (Duran and A-rankers)

"Obviously, I and Yuki. Who else?"

"Sir, don't you play favoritism?" (Kairen)

"No. Rather than favoritism, isn't it too risky to the whole team, sir?!" (Ludor)

"Guuhh...don't ask me such obvious question, brats! I know it myself and don't make me say it again."

[As Vanheir said before, it's the Guild Master's order.]

[The members can't comment any further if the Guild master is involved. They all knew, for as long as they remember, their Guild master never issue bad decision.]

[Though it's not always accurate, but his order always result a good cause in the later days. So however weird the order, they always trust him, try at least.]

"I can only hope he knows what he's ordering about. If in fact Yuki's capability is down to the pit, we shall take only the Minotaurs and retreat temporary." (Vanheir)

"Heh..that's why you ask me that contradicting tasks?" (Duran)

*Smirk*

Vanheir can only smile out of his uncertainty.

"That's all of it. Move out." (Vanheir)

"Yessir!"

[No need much time, the A-rankers take their position. And the girls begin their siege.]

"Never miss the heart of my foe

Never miss the voice of mine

Grant only my wish and

carve it to the flesh of foe."

[Fire bolt!!]

A swarm of ten fiery bolts released and stabbing the chest, legs, and arms of two minotaurs.

WHOOSH WHOOSHH

(Sound of air friction.)

GROOOAA!!

The Minotaurs can only groans and squirms in agony on the ground.

"Nice, Fanya! As accurate as always!"

(Cleo)

"Hehee~" (Fanya)

"Okay, i won't lose, either!" (Cleo)

The early celebration draw the Minotaurs attention.

"Damn you girls, can't you be more stealthy?!" (Kairen)

"Ugh, guess our turn is sooner than i thought." (Ludor)

Cleo the archer doesn't waste any seconds and immediately chants her magic while the boys complain.

"Feel my presence and

unite the breeze with mine."

[Wind coat]

Cleo chants a spell to imbue her arrows with wind attribute. It's clearly looked as a whirlwind wrapping around the arrows.

After finish her chants, in a second she unseathes her bow and ready to shoot.

"Yaaahh!!"

Cleo lets out her roar while performing multishot.

*STAB!! STAB!!*

MOOO!!!

UOOO!!

Cleo makes sure the two disabled minotaurs dead in one hit.

"Yaaayy!! Your multiple shot is cool as always, Cleo~"

"Hehehe, let's keep up this pace~" (Cleo)

"Ofcoouursee~" (Fanya)

While the girls clear the two minotaurs, the other four minotaurs rush their way to the boys.

"Uuggh..damn girls! Guess i'll have to go all out since the beginning."

As Kairen grumbles, he already prepares his attack.

"Come forth the blade of wanderer.

Cripple my enemies."

[Wind blade!!]

Whoosh whoosshh!!

From afar, wind blades are unleashed and hit deeply at the legs of minotaurs. Make them moving slower due to the pain.

Ludor steps back and feels a bit nervous as looking at the Minotaurs, Though it's still quite far.

"What are you looking at?! Begin your attack!!"

"Eeeh, You already start to move? you sure Kairen?"

"Ofcourse. While we're busy chatting, the girls take all of the glory! Are you sure you want to wait idly?!"

"Yaaaahh!!"

Stab! Stab!

Another minotaur is down, shot at its neck by two fiery arrows.

"Yoosshh!! Another one down! Looks like our fire-wind arrows combination is success, Fanya~!!"

"Yes, yes. Please stay vigilant, Cleo. We're in the mid of the hunt~"

Fanya seems troubled with the carefree attitude of her friend.

"Heh, whatever."

Kairen can't wait anymore and charge to the minotaurs.

"W-wait! Dammiiit!! Please let me join, guys!!"

Ludor finally can muster his courage and enchant his spell.

"Let me embrace the despair of yours

And clear out my path."

[Earth spike!!]

The earth spike is enhanced on the Ladon's big shield. Then he pushes forward tackling all of the remaining minotaurs.

GRRAAAHH!!!

GUUUOOO!!!

While the cries of minotaurs are heard,

the veterans observe them from the top of a tree.

"Hooo...these new A-rankers have a promising future, sir."

"Ofcourse they should. Our guild's future is at their hands after all."

"So where's Yuki, sir?"

"Ha? What's with that obvious question? Ofcourse-"

"BAAAMM!!"

A sound of two colliding things heard around the Alpha party. It's enough to distract everyone for a moment, includes the Minotaurs.

"W-what is that??" (Fanya)

"Look!! Someone at the Calden!" (Cleo)

"Haha...he's sure interesting, sir. Guess the guild master is right about him."

"Ggghhh...stop it, old Duran. He gives me a headache already."

GROAARR!!

While they're distracted by the Calden's move, a Minotaur take the chance to try smashing Fanya with its huge sledgehammer.

"Wooaah!! Watch out, Miss Fanya!!"

"Aaaaahhh!!"

In a split moment, Ludor succeed to make Fanya out of the Minotaur's attack with his full-power charge.

WHAAAAMM!!

The sound of the smashed ground by the Minotaur and the cracked tree by Ludor are intertwined at the same time.

"Huff huff...thank you..Mr. Ludor."

"Better we focus at our hands first, guys."

Pshooo!!

Whoosshh!!

Cleo's wind arrow and Kairen's wind blade end the Minotaur's life before it's able to execute another attack.

"Yeah, this cows don't wait

any moment for us." Kairen said with a bit upset tone in his voice.

Hearing this, Cleo seems sulking.

"Brats!! What did i order you, huh?! Focus on the minotaurs!"

Vanheir can't hold anymore of his frustation against the members' behaviour.

It's clearly seen that the A-rankers is more terrified of Vanheir's furious than the minotaurs.

"R-right, siiirr!!" (A-rankers)

"Uuuhh...i'm dead curious, but surely i don't wanna die, either." (Cleo)

"Alright let's start over, guys." (Cleo)

"Oooss!!"

Other A-rankers agree with Cleo's opinion at the same time.

[On the side of Duran]

*Smirk*

"Looks like they already compose themselves, sir. Not bad as A-rankers."

"Stop your astonishment, old man. They're in your care now, i'll head to Yuki."

"Sure, be careful sir."

*Salute*

Though it's not too far, Vanheir dashes his way to Yuki. He's nervous to the result of Yuki's action.

From afar, Vanheir witness that Yuki is wrestling with the Calden.

"Heeeeiii!!! What're ya doin, braaatt?!!!"

"Your order, old man. A moment ago this lady awake because of the noise from the others. So before it rushes to them, i dive to her swiftly."

"Alright, alright! You can focus on wrestling with that thing first!!"

Vanheir seems worried despite his strict attitude. Indeed who won't? He watches Yuki pushing each other with the Calden while casually giving such long explanation.

Calden, a rare creature who spawn only in certain period once a year. History recorded that this creature has tendecy to rampage without mercy once it starts to struggle. Additionally its raw strength able to crush the wood of Wilstad, which is commonly used for Army's Battering ram.

If not for Calden's habit, all of the fortress in the world already ruined long ago.

"Huh? Were you not the one asking me, oldman? Are you going senile in this crowded situation, sir?"

"MOOO?.."

At the same time, Yuki and the Calden make a puzzled face to Vanheir.

"Gaaahh you wreck my nerve, damn braaatt!!"

Vanheir unleashes his rage to the Calden. But it only makes a bruise.

MOOOO!!!

The Calden doesn't take severe damage, but the kick irritates it.

The Calden immadiately release the armwrestling with Yuki and prepares to unleash its rage to Vanheir.

"Gguuh.."

Vanheir already prepares his stance to embrace his inevitable fate, but Yuki suddenly appears between Calden and him.

"Haaahh..sir, please be civil~ what are you doing with this gentle lady, right milady?"

Yuki stops the Calden headbutt by pushing its head gently. After the Calden is calm, he rubs the bruise made by Vanheir and try to comfort the Calden.

"MOOO~"

And the Calden, in respond, cuddle to Yuki as if it's a spoiled child.

"Gaaahh!!! What the heck with this different treatment?! He attacked you too, right?!"

Vanheir protest to the Calden.

"And you brat, our mission is to bring the Calden as our provision, not friend!"

"Haaa?? But this creature is more civilized and gentle than someone. You should ask her will first rather than just put your frustation to her."

"MOOO~"

The Calden beams a sparkling eyes to Vanheir.

'Guuuh...where have i heard that annoying truth-speaking mouth?'

'But more surprising how the heck this boy can subdue the Calden this way?! There's never in history a monster with same rank as Calden obey or even cooperate at least, such in this case.'

"So Milady, can you give up yourself (meat) to me? I promise it won't go to waste and consumed for a good deed."

"MOO....MOOOO!!"

The Calden agrees to Yuki's request.

"Thank you, sweet lady."

Yuki immediately pour a portion of his magic into his sword, enhances the sturdiness and sharpness of the sword.

'Eeeehh??? He can comunicate with monster??' (Thought Vanheir)

Then in an instant, Yuki give all of his might and slash precisely at the Calden's neck.

WHAAAMM!!

Making it die painlessly.

"Once again i thank you, oh sweet lady."

Yuki give his thanks to the beheaded Calden.

"Whhaaa?!!! H-how??!! Didn't you say to be gentle to it??!! And how could only one slash to cut its neck apart?!! What's with that sword??!!"

Vanheir doubts his eyes so that he rushes all of the questions.

"What are you talking about, oldman? Didn't you say we can't bring it alive?"

Yuki makes another annoyed face.

"But you kill it in cold-blood without any hesitation!!"

"No, i gave it my best regard. i kill it in an instant so it won't feel any suffering."

Guuuhh...i don't know how to respond to that. Is that pity? Empathy? Or something else??

While Vanheir's drowned in his own confusion, the other members are already going to their way.

"Yuuukiii~!! How is it on your eend??"

Cleo shouts while running ahead of others.

When she's close to the remain of Calden,

She regrets to go ahead.

"W-whaa?! G-grooss!!" (Cleo)

"What is it, C-cle ~!!" (Fanya)

"Kyaaahh!! Don't look, Fanyaa!!" (Cleo)

"Uueeegghh.." *vomit* (Fanya)

"W-wooaah..i've never seen this scene before, though i've killed many monsters."

(Ludor)

"Euuhh..so barbaric, can you kill more elegantly?" (Kairen)

"Yeah, if you have a giant knife and expert dismantling skill." Yuki answers with flat expression.

"Ggghh..."

Kairen just bites his own tongue, feels humiliated by Yuki's words.

"Hahaha you kids still green huh? It's the same as chopped meat of monsters you usually hunt, only in a giant size. And it's considered an elegant clean cut, you know."

"H-how so, sir?" (Ludor)

"Ah! Yeah..i forget it's the first Cowfering for the four of you, right?" (Duran)

"Yeah, then?" (Kairen)

Duran can only sigh against these ignorant rankers.

"Most S-rankers who cut the Calden, had to chop it bit by bit due to its thickness and sturdiness of the meat. There are several brutal sight on Caldens usually, more than this."

"E-eeh? Really?! So it should be more savage?!!" (Cleo)

"Uugghh..." *Bleeaarghh* (Fanya)

"Aah!! Sorry sorry, let's get out here Fanya."

"S-sorry, Yuki, Everyone." (Fanya)

"We'll wait there, ok?" (Cleo)

Yuki just rise his hand as sign of his approval to Fanya's apology.

"Yeah, Duran is right. It's quite often that Adventurers can't bring Calden in one piece, let alone a clean fine cut like this." (Vanheir)

Duran nods as he agrees with Vanheir.

"Furthermore..." (Vanheir)

"F-furthermore..?"

Duran, Kairen, and Ludor wonder about Vanheir's halted sentence.

"..this boy do it in only one cut..."

Vanheir said that with serious face yet doubtful, regardless he witness it with his own eyes.

"W-whaatt?!!" (Duran)

"Is that even possible, sir?" (Ludor)

"Heh looks like Calden is nothing special, huh?" (Kairen)

Vanheir gives Kairen his fierce glare, as he disagree with his statement.

"You brat!" (Vanheir)

"Y-yessiir!!" (Kairen)

"Try hack that Calden's neck. Go all out, it may affect my opinion of you."

Vanheir points out the remaining portion of Calden's neck.

"Alright siirr!!"

Kairen is on fire to prove himself to Vanheir that he's way better than Yuki.

He chants his most proficient magics and ready a stance of his best battle skill. In his mind, it's like a life-threatening situation that may change his career in the guild.

Though, it's not the case for Vanheir.

"Graaahh!!"

Kairen focus all of his stats to this one hit, which is capable of crushing any boss with B-rank level into dust.

The dust swirl around the area, causing Kairen and the others can't see the result.

When the dust start to dispersed, Duran, Ludor and especially Kairen staggered when looking at the Calden's neck.

"W-what?! Why? I think Kairen's attack is strong enough to destroy the city gate and most of the B-rank monsters." (Ludor)

"It's not strong enough..." (Kairen)

"W-what? What do you mean, buddy?" (Ludor)

"It's not 'enough'...it's my best."

Kairen states that with frustation

on his face.

"Huh?" (Ludor)

"What the hell with that flesh.. And it's even already dead..." Now he doubts his skill himself.

"Yeah..commonly speaking, the dead monster is out of mana and their physic is decayed so the sturdiness of their body should be decreased quite much. So how?"

(Duran)

"Heh..so even you're not quite well-known with the Calden's flesh, Duran."

"What dyou mean, sir?"

"Most of veteran S-rankers have already experienced this once, Calden's sturdiness last at least half day since its death. So you can say the dead Calden is the same as the living one for a period of time. Usually we S-rankers experiment on the dead one before it's going soft."

"Uughh..then that means.." (Ludor)

"Yes, you two already realize the meaning of this right? Especially you, Kairen." (Vanheir)

"Yes...pardon me for my careless thought, sir." (Kairen)

"T-then..how Yuki did this?!!" (Ludor)

"That's what i wan-"

"Everyone! Watch ouutt!!" (Cleo)

MOOOOO!!!!!

Suddenly the Lone Calden already rush to their position with full speed.

"Sir, please take the others." (Yuki)

Yuki already prepares his stance to counter the Lone Calden's charge.

"What do you want, b-" (Duran)

Vanheir immediately grab them with all of his might and get out from the scene. Though he still doubts himself whether Yuki able to stop it, it's not the time to hesitate and lose his own life.

MOOOO!!!

They hear another roar when try to escape.

"Siirr?!! How about Yuki?!!" (Ludor)

"Yeah! Though i dislike him, he's not possibly able to stop full-speed charge that calibre!" (Kairen)

"You two just shut up, it's heavier when you struggle!!"

Finally Vanheir stops and drops them at a branch of a nearby giant tree.

Cleo and Fanya come right away to them and ask about their condition.

"Heeiii, everyone's alright??" (Cleo)

"W-where is Yu-" (Fanya)

"Sir! Let's rescue that boy!!" (Duran)

"You can calm down first, Duran!"

"H-huh? What is it about?"

"What do you mean, sir?"

Fanya and Cleo are confused with sudden panic in their party.

"B-buut!!"

"I appointed you as a leader to them, remember?!!"

"S-sorry...sir, but how ab-"

"Just observe with your detection."

"R-right!"

[Presence detection!!]

"This..!! H-how?!!" (Duran)

"You know it, right?" (Vanheir)

"What is it, sir?" (Ludor)

"What about Yuki?" (Cleo)

"Yeah, yeah!" (Fanya)

"He's safe and it seems the Lone Calden

changes his direction." (Duran)

"Any other information you can get, Duran?" (Vanheir)
