return, duty calls

after visiting several more houses I had gathered roughly thirty people and we were all walking to the settlement.

we stayed off the main road and instead walked through a few parks to get to the settlement the walls were now more refined metal and stone the gates were just big square rocks that are covered in metal.

as I approached I announced myself to the people guarding the gates.

"I am kai and I am the saint of the empire let us pass"

the gates slowly opened and I was greeted with jase and the 4 kings they had their respective school uniforms on each of them holding their signature weapons then jase spoke to the people I gathered.

"welcomes to the 4 schools holy empire I an jase the emperor and these four are my kings Taylor volt, luke varri, Tyson veel and ryanna Stone please follow them to get registered and reunited with your families"

with that everyone I had gathered walked away with the kings whilst jase approached me and Callen as he spoke.

"I'm glad to see that you've both returned and with so many people to boot callen you can return to your normal duties I will find you later to give you your reward"

callen spoke as he walked away.

"okay thanks kai see ya later"

he stuck his tongue out as he said that so I felt a deep urge to punch his face but I managed to hold it in when jase started speaking.

"well done you brought back Ryanna's cousin and the entire varri clan along with some others now I'm going to give you your official list of duties"

I looked jase right in his deep blue eyes and started to speak.

"my fuckin' what cunt? I just went out walking around town for two whole days in the middle of a fucking apocalypse to save a bunch of random people with mind you possibly the most frustrating person sent to help me"

~deep breath

"and now your fuckface self is giving me jobs to do? go fuck yourself and cry In a ditch also what type of way to welcome someone"

~small breath

"maybe start with a 'oh hey kai thank you so much for bringing back people's families why don't you go take a break?' but nooooo you ft-up brain or lack there of decides to give me jobs!"

I was puffed and I noticed that jase was smiling and started speaking.

"duty calls here's your list"

then he walked away

I looked at the list and nearly passed out.

[1. raise the orphan children you brought back.

2. help teach the children basic math, science and English

3. train using your weapon

4. attend king meetings

5. help out guarding/healing

6. tend to the 4 pillars

7. have fun (or not hahaha)]

I felt the rage building up inside of me but I pushed it aside and found where I am meant to sleep and slept missing my own bed.

on the list was actually a more detailed description of the jobs and my rights first I needed to go to my new "room" which was just a supply closet with a mattress and blanket in the child care classroom of AFMGS where all the orphans were currently living.

the child care room was composed of a small kitchen area without an oven, a communal toilet area, a classroom filled with toys, and a small gated play area.

it was made for people learning childcare and early education to get practical experience but now it is the living area for the orphans.

my job is basically to caretake the orphans and sometimes teach children different things when the "teachers" had things to do.

I opened the cabinets in the kitchen with Taylor volt's ability he copied all the scavenged food many times over so the cabinets were filled with slow to and non-perishable foods.

I grabbed a box of cereal and poured a bowl for each orphan and with each bowl was a spoon and water bottle.

I woke them all up and told them to eat not like I had to after what they had been through they would pretty much eat anything.

after breakfast the orphan girl nyx came up to me and spoke.

"I'm pretty sure you already have a list of our abilities but mine is amplification so if you need to be stronger you can just call for me"

I looked in my 'bedroom' and found a notebook inside was a bunch of information from names to abilities all about the children.

I sighed gathered them all up and walked to where people were being taught most of the orphans were between the ages of 6-9 with a few older kids like nyx who was the oldest at 11 years old.

honestly I felt a little weird calling her a kid considering that we are close in age and how much she has been through.

I left them to get learn with the "teachers" and went on my way to a meeting with the kings I think it had something to do with how the settlement system worked.

I walked to the office in the institute the settlement encompassed both the institute and AFMGS  but most things were stationed in the institute camp including the meeting office.

I walked in and was greeted by Luke his stupid smile on his face his halberd looked even more frightening than before I sat down and the meeting started.

I was correct in assuming that it was to do with the settlement apparently to be a "holy empire" a saint needed to be ordained.

the way to do so was the blood of a dragon yes that's right in order for the settlement to actually get the benefits of its name we needed the blood of a fucking dragon.

and jase looked me straight in my eyes and spoke

"duty calls time to slay a dragon"
