Life With Hazel

The alarm from her phone rang wildly, making her jerk out of the sofa in shock.

She fell asleep during her little movie session.

And those two made themselves feel at home alright. Not bothering to find out if she was okay or anything.

In her own house?

She thought those two came over to keep her company but it was the other way round.

They came to keep their own company.

How crude.

She had at least an hour, thirty minutes to get ready for her job and she was still laying on the couch, eyes staring out the window lazily

If you don't get up, you might have to look for two part-time jobs.

Hazel hurried up to her feet and ran straight to her room. This is going to take a lot of time.

Rina is a heavy sleeper but she wasn't sure about Greg though.

Urgh!!!

She's going to be late!

Hazel hurried to the guest restroom and took a shower there. Thankfully, she stored all her new toiletries in the vanity here. She had to rip open a new toothbrush, paste, sponge, body wash… you name it.

Rina and Greg…they have a lot of bills to pay and she's so going to write them a whole one thousand words during her ride down to work.

Luckily for her, she had some spare, folded, clean clothes in the laundry. She puts on a pair of joggers and a random baggy tee and hurries out of the door.

Throughout her entire ruckus, none of her friends woke up.

Cliché

Waving down a taxi, she hurried in and gave him directions to the boutique she worked at.

Sinking into the chair after realising she would be thirty minutes early, she exhaled.

Hazel chuckled at how crazy she must have seemed this morning, rushing to get ready for work and all. She didn't even have breakfast that morning.

Just great.

Her job doesn't offer her a break and she might starve the whole day.

"Please can you pull over at the cafe over there?"

"Sure thing Miss" The driver replied with a smile.

"Thank you"

The taxi pulled over and Hazel got out of the cab. She sighed in relief on seeing how little the queue in the cafe was.

She wouldn't have to wait so long to get the order. The cafe welcomed her with the lovely smell of freshly baked pastries as she stepped in. She's going to get one of those pastries and maybe some milkshake.

Hazel soon made her order, paid for it and was on her way out of the cafe.

She felt like she was being watched…by someone or something.

What could that be?

She was feeling uncomfortable and had to hurry out of there. She flagged down a taxi and was soon on her way to work.

That was weird. She's never felt anything like this before and she could feel her heart racing wildly.

"Are you okay Miss?" The driver asked in concern

Breathe Zel, this isn't the place for you to get a panic attack. Not on the morning of a shift. Just breathe. It's all in your head. You're doing great Zel. You're going to be fine.

"Miss?"

Hazel smiled

"I'm alright"

The driver nods though his reaction was a bit sceptical.

Hazel surprisingly felt her heart slowing down and she was no longer working up.

That was a good thing right?

She took a sip of her coffee and took a bite of her french toast.

They taste amazing.

That cafe is going to be her favourite soon enough. It's been so long since she ate something this good.

Hazel hurried into the boutique and went straight to the change room.

"Look who showed up"

Hazel knew who that was and she was very much aware of what to do.

Ignore her.

Ivy was a huge thorn in the flesh and Hazel has been able to ignore her every single time.

Today would be no different…

And what a surprise, she forgot to type that lengthy message she promised to.

Why not do it right now?

She had at least twenty minutes to her shift.

Hazel took out her phone, ready to make Rina and Greg feel terrible for treating her this way in her own house!

Isn't that ridiculous?

"How is our heroine doing today?" Ivy asked.

Hazel has been nicknamed heroine since the day she saved a customer from choking and since then, her manager has become fond of her.

And of course, that didn't sit well with the likes of IVY

Hazel sent her message and got ready to change into her uniform.

"I'm talking to you! Have you gone deaf?"

Hazel turns the locks of her locker and puts the key in the pocket of her uniform.

A straight fitted gown with a hat that looked like a sailor.

"I don't have a reply for you Ivy. You just want to pick a fight for no reason" Hazel sighed

"Pick on someone else Ivy. I'm not going to reply to any of your insults this morning"

Hazel took her to leave and resumed her post. Her job was to help the extremely wealthy customers around the huge boutique. She is to assist them with their shopping bags as well as direct them to the popular sakes of the store.

Easy right?

Of course.

Not.

There were days when she had to attend to extremely self-possessed people and rich spoilt brats. And she couldn't do anything to irritate or annoy them.

As much as the manager fancies her, he wouldn't hesitate to fire her on the spot if a customer complains about her.

There were many times Hazel almost lost her cool, very few times but whenever she walks through that door, leaves all of her senses and self at the door.

After the day job, she can now pick them up and ask herself why she didn't yell at that customer.

But this job was her second most well-paid job and she couldn't afford to lose it. She just had to put up with all this till the day she can no longer take it…
