Compared to the not-so-glamorous dance moves, music is even more important for "High School Musical". It ignites the movie's soul, sparks the audience's emotions through song, resonates with them, and gets them singing along during the film.
And they'll remember it, which is why the film's original soundtrack sells out so quickly.
But first and foremost, the songs must fit the plot, have catchy melodies, be easy to sing, and embody a youthful and fashionable style. Whether it's the upbeat songs during basketball games or the protagonists' ballads, all of them must be composed in the style of current pop music.
While no one is expecting these to be timeless classics, meeting all these criteria is still challenging. Early in the formation of "High School Musical"'s production team, Flame Film Company had contacted many composers, clearly conveyed the requirements for the songs, and hoped to receive satisfactory compositions.
