Overslept

The golden rays of the morning sun streamed in the room through the velvet curtains, brightening it. It was such a sight to behold. Alexander was already awake but his gaze never left her face. She was now looking even more beautiful under the morning sun, like a goddess. He had looked at her for hours but it seemed he never got enough of her. How could such a beautiful creature be a maid? He couldn't bring himself to believe it. His hands caressed her blonde hair as his gaze imprinted the image of her face in his mind.

Isadora fluttered her long lashes as the bright sunlight washed over her face. For some odd reason, she felt that she had overslept and her instincts kicked in. Her eyes grew wide as saucers as the image of a complaining Jessica registered on her face. Though the elder woman had found a soft spot on her, she feared that this time, she might have committed an unforgivable mistake. To miss the maids register and chores allocation was the most basic thing a maid had to do, even if they knew where they would work that day.

She was about to move when she felt a strong arm wrapped around her waist and her eyes widened in realization. Her head whipped upwards and met his mesmerizing gaze. It was then that last night's events unfolded in her mind. She had fallen for his tricks and even spent the night inside his room. What would people say if they saw her stepping outside his room. Worry and fear gripped her and she could only guess what awaited her today.

"You're awake." Came his sweet voice. She looked at his eyes and he smiled back at her but his smile faded the moment he saw the worry on her face. "What's with that look?" He asked raising a brow. But this only added onto the worry that had now taken over Aria. Was he so naïve to not think of the consequences of spending a night with her. An image of Princess Roselyn flashed in her mind and she could only imagine what she would do if she found this out. Was she going to sentence her to death now?

"I need to go Alexander," she said, calling him in his real name. This amused him, not even caring about the worry on her face.

"My name..It sounds good when you say it," he said in an erotic voice. But Isadora had no time for this. Her head whipped to the position of the sun in the sky and she could only imagine what awaited her in the kitchen.

Peeling his hand off her, she steadied her maiden attire and combed her disheveled hair with her fingers. She didn't even had the time to take a bath. Alexander looked at her startled by her sudden behavior. Was she attending a meeting or what? Wasn't she supposed to be at his service throughout. But he knew she also needed some time alone, maybe to do some personal things.

He slipped into a robe and Isadora noticed that he had not worn anything since last night. Had he slept with her nearly naked? The thought of it sent ripples up her body and her face turned red like a cooked lobster. How could she have been so naïve to let him even touch her? She scolded herself, but strangely, she did not regret sleeping in his room. What made her upset was oversleeping. But could he really understand such a thing.

She shook her head in denial before turning around to leave. "I'm leaving now," she announced once she grabbed the door's knob, afraid that he might stop her if she didn't say it from a distance. "I will bring your breakfast shortly." Alexander was about to stop her but his hand hung in mid air as the sound of the door slamming echoed in the room.

The moment Isadora stepped out of the room, countless pair of eyes fell on her and she almost regretted it. And as she paced through the hallway, she could feel the scrutinizing gazes of her fellow maids probe her as if she were some piece of rare ore. All this was thanks to him. She thought. But she also had some role to play in it. She could have screamed or did something to stop him. She scolded herself again for falling for his antics. But as thick skinned as the maids were, they could only think that she had spent the night with him, and did something more. And it won't be long before rumors about it spread in the palace like wild fire.

She finally made for the kitchen and leaned behind the door as she let out a sigh of relief that she didn't know she had been holding all along. But she was at least safe from those enquiring gazes of the maids. But she knew she couldn't hide here forever. She had to face them in the course of the day.

"You are late." A familiar voice sounded and she whipped her head to look at the direction of the kitchen. A not so happy Jessica was approaching her with a stern look on her face. Oh no! Was she going to lose her job now? She had worked so hard to lay her hands on this job to only be fired because of him. She knew that he was now a plague that she had to avoid at all times. Just two days working for him and her reputation was about to be destroyed, and now ready to receive a scold, or even worse, lose the job.

"I…. I… was. His highness… I was tending to him." She managed to mumble a sentence. The fat woman scrutinized her with her gaze, not believing a single word she said.

"How could you miss the register? Do you know you can even lose your job for that?" She asked, her tone serious.

"I'm sorry ma'am. I assure you such a thing will never ever happen again." She swore both to Jessica and to herself. This was something she was never going to let happen again. She swore not to fall again onto his tricks. But as close as she was to him, a personal maid at that, she knew it could be hard. But she had to do it, for the better of herself.

"If this happens next time, I am afraid I will have no other choice but to fire you. Do you understand?" Isadora nodded deeply. 'I swear this will never happen again,' she told her inner self, mostly her body for having betrayed her these past days. "Get the breakfast for his highness before it gets late." Isadora hesitated for a while before she eventually moved and got the tray.

"What is wrong with her today?" Jessica asked soon after Isadora left. She shook her head before dragging her heavy body lazily out of the kitchen.
