Who could someone like me talk to? I wasn't born a dragon. I'd lived years as an ordinary human being. I'd felt weak, and powerless then too. Regala's confession had only made me feel just as weak as I had back then.
I closed my eyes, and sighed heavily. Dropping my head so that when I reopened my eyes I was staring at the building acrost the street from me. Foresight, elemental manipulation, fusing with my elements, and one more element I needed to get. That was just part of my to do list. Just the part that Regala could help me with.
Fading was just a nice word for dying. I trusted my gut feeling on that. She had less then a year at best. Admitting that I knew things like that, but kind of sucked at strategic thinking was a weird feeling. She was right about a lot of things.
But she was also wrong. If brains was what was needed to create a proper alliance between humans, and dragons then she would have been able to do it on her own. That perfect intelligent dragon queen that never failed wouldn't have been able to connect with the general population of humanity. Humans made mistakes on a daily basis. Maybe they needed an angry idiot.
I chuckled at that thought. Then again. Being mister perfect wouldn't be so bad. No one could find anything wrong with me if I was perfect all the time. Those kind of expectations would drive me nuts though.
I didn't want to be some perfect godlike entity. I just didn't want to be alone, and for someone to understand. Regala had apologized to the others for taking my chance of a normal life away. Not that it mattered all that much. The only person I would've met if I'd stayed normal was Ethan, and I never would have known who he was.
What he'd gone through. I would have died a long time ago, or been absolutely miserable. Constantly getting burned by Conner, and broken by any one of the other overconfident assholes. No. I liked this better.
Staying human would have been far more restrictive then being a dragon was. If there was one thing I was certain of it was the fact that I would only get more freedom as I grew stronger. Saving this settlement was only the first step to securing a foothold back to earth. Everyone would hate what I was at first. My power, and my actions would force them to acknowledge me.
Regala was right. I really did like the brute force way of doing things. I realized that my clothes felt kind of tight, and looked down to find that I hadn't changed them back to normal after Regala had worn them. I returned them to the way I liked with a satisfied smile. Aurora had grown well, and it seemed as if Goliath had taken that mom, and her kid with them when they left.
That was good. Hiding one small dragon was easy. I'd need to find more people willing to fight alongside dragons. My mind flashed to that young blacksmith. I'd wanted to take him on as one of my own bonded, but at the same time I didn't want to wait that long.
My instincts were good when it came to these kind of things. He would make a good bonded for a dragon. Taking a few months off wouldn't hurt either. Regala had a lot to teach me, and not much time before she faded completely. I knew I could create a stable portal to earth already.
I'd ask him to come with us. Tell Calen we wanted to train in the wilds for a while. Return to earth to hatch another dragon egg. Leave the blacksmith with the new dragon to bond. It wouldn't be difficult for Calen to contact us if someone decided they wanted help.
Aurora was getting close to the adolescent stage. Once she reached that stage she could care for an egg while I was busy. The blacksmith kid might volunteer to go with if he knew that he would get the chance to work with another dragon's scales. Ethan definitely liked the dragon scale armor Bryce had made for him. They even held a charge of my mana, and exploded when overcharged.
Goliath would probably like a set with healing properties. Aurora's main element was a healing element after all. First I'd have to convince everyone here I was going out into the wilds. I looked to the slowly rising sun on the horizon. Once I gave Calen my phone number he could contact me anytime.
Calen's guild had survived a disaster that could have ended life on the whole planet. People would get the wrong impression, and assume that Calen's forces had done the bulk of the work. Human's liked underdogs. I would be written off as just a small factor in their survival. The lizardmen would be considered nothing more then wild savages like the Indians had been in the past.
Now I had a plan. All I had to do was put it into action. Running it by Savannah first would be a good idea. She could do all the technical stuff. Smooth out the rough edges.
I realized that someone was watching me. Derailing my line of thought. My eyes snapped to the side to land on that person as I slowly turned so that my whole body was facing them.
"Who are you?" I resisted the urge to cock my head.
They looked surprised as if they didn't expect to see me there. I blinked slowly as I waited for a response. The man smiled, and shoved some sort of touch screen into the girls hands before starting to walk toward me. I jumped, and grabbed the nearly invisible drone that had been circling me for a little while now. I could feel it struggle in my grip as it tried to return to whatever it had been doing as the girl's expression changed to a really flustered one.
