Chapter four

When they had gotten to the point where the scout had called, Gwen was shocked when she had seen the body.

It was like nothing she had ever expected. The man who was lying down on the ground didn't look like somebody that would be bitten in an alley if all places.

He looked out of place in the alley. His suit had been stained with splashes of red books in different places and his neck had a deep gash on it by the side.

It had been no doubt a vampire attack.

Tyler stood up from the body. His ear had been placed on the chest of the man as his super hearing tried to trace a heartbeat. Even if it was the faintest of heart beats, he would hear it.

Now, he stood up from the body with a grim expression on his face.

"He's still alive, but I don't understand how he could have survived such an attack as such. Whoever had bitten this man had obviously wanted to rip his head off."

Gwen couldn't stop staring at his face. He had tanned skin and plush red lips with a full beard that had grown nicely across his features. He was more handsome than Cory and even more handsome than Rick.

She bent low and assessed his wound. Tyler was right, how could anyone have survived such an attack.

"I can smell at least three vampires and they didn't seem to have been in a happy state. They were after something and this human here had probably been in their way." Cory said, sniffing the air with his heightened sense of smell.

Amidst everything that Tyler and Cory were saying, she kept wondering how the man laying down on the ground was still alive after having lost such amount of blood.

"We have to get him out of here. If he's still alive after what he had just gone though, then we need to make sure that he remains with us in the land of the living." Gwen said, getting up to her feet.

Tyler bent to lift the body and Gwen saw a glint of something metallic on the ground, very close to the side of the man. Recognizing what it was, she bent to pick up the man's wallet.

She pocketed it and pulled out her cellphone to inform the scouts that they were now in possession of the body.

The three of them walked back to the car in silence. Gwen knew that whoever this man was he wasn't going to be alive for much longer.

He would need her blood to make a full recovery, otherwise, he would face a painful death.

Gwen needed to devise a means to get Cory and Tyler to allow her to take the man home with her but she didn't know what lie to tell.

When they reached the car, Tyler lay the man on the back seat with his head resting on the head rest.

He closed the door and got in from the other side, sitting delicately close to the man.

Cory got behind the wheel and Gwen entered the passenger door. From where she sat, she could hear the heartbeat of the man.

It was starting to become faint. If she didn't help him soon, he was going to die and she didn't want that to happen.

"I'll take him home." Gwen said as soon as Cory had gunned the engine.

"What?" Cory looked at her in shock; as though what she had just said had been the most singular stupid thing anyone could ever say.

"He's going to die if we don't do something quick. I can help him if I take care of him."

"Yes, he's going to die. We know and that's why we are taking him to a hospital." Cory said to her in disbelief, still shocked by her former statement.

"Do not deceive yourself any further, Cory. We both know that the extent of his wounds is too fatal for any hospital to handle. They wouldn't even know what to do with him."

"She has a point Cory. Why don't you let her help the man, if that's what she wants to do. She never said she was going to bang him." Tyler chuckled from the back seat.

Cory cast Tyler a 'shut your mouth' glance and returned his gaze to the windshield.

Sighing, he exhaled.

"Fine, but I don't think this is a good idea. Besides, how do you even intend to help him? As far as we know, only hybrids can heal wounds that deep and there aren't any hybrids around."

Gwen kept quiet and decided to use another method of approach.

"I'll be taking him to see my grandmother. She's travelled a lot and she used to be in contact with some witches back then."

"Witches?" The both of them exclaimed. "You want to use vudu magic on him?"

Even though werewolves and vampires were natural enemies and had detested each other from day one, the both supernaturals shared the same hate for witches.

"Yes, witches." Gwen continued, hoping that they both would buy her lie.

"It's the only option that this man has. For him to have survived such an attack, it means that he has a tenacious spirit. We can't let him die."

Cory clearly didn't like any of the ideas that Gwen had been coming up with. It was clearly written on his face. Tyler on the other hand was absolutely indifferent to whatever Gwen did.

She knew it was because Cory saw himself as a suitable mate for her and like any other man, he was extremely jealous when it came to the idea of another man around her.

Gwen had made it clear that it wouldn't work between her and Cory, yet he wouldn't listen. He was that stubborn.

In the end, he agreed and drove the cat towards Gwen's house.

Gwen would have to use her blood to heal the injured man. She didn't know why she was doing this but there had always been this fierce instinct within her to protect people that she had the power to and if this man having a shot with her blood could heal him, then she needed to help him at all costs.

"The vampires have to stop this nuisance. We can't keep compelling people to think that the bites and the deaths are all animal attacks."

"So, what do you suggest we do, oh wise Tyler?" Cory said sarcastically. He was obviously still hurt that Tyler didn't take his side.

"Ever heard of genocide? I think we have to commit that act to be able to get these blood thirsty animals in check."

"Technically, you're one of them." Gwen chuckled.

"We have to commit genocide on every vampire except myself." Tyler rephrased.

Gwen laughed, "Don't worry, Tyler, we know you're not like them."

"Hey, don't take Tyler's side. We never know what he's capable of doing when all eyes are turned away from him. I can bet all my money that he is a vampire serial killer."

"Oh yeah, how about I put my new title to use and start with your mother." Tyler joked.

"Waste of time. Even my grandmother can beat your ass in one sweep of her leathery feet.'' Cory laughed.

Gwen just sat there smiling. In times like this, you just had to enjoy their banter.

Tyler was unlike most vampires. Vampires were naturally known to be cruel and blood thirsty but Tyler was different. Instead of human blood, he drank animal blood even though it reduces his strength.

Ten minutes later, they arrived at Gwens house.

Cory parked the car outside since Gwen didn't have a garage. Tyler grabbed the man delicately and heaved him onto his shoulders. The trio proceeded to Gwens home.

There was no way that she was going to let them get into her house though. Who knows if she had her underwear laying somewhere that it wasn't supposed to be.

Once they reached the steps that led to the blue painted door, Gwen motioned for them to stop.

"Alright, that's enough, guys. I'll take it from here."

Cory grew a half smile on his face. "You're not going to bring us in and offer us some drinks?"

"No, Cory, I have some things laying about that shouldn't be seen by men."

Tyler laughed. "No way I'm entering that place—though I sometimes fantasise what your house might look like."

Gwen punched him playfully on the shoulder. "Pervert." She smiled.

Gwen took the man off Tyler's shoulder. The fact that she was a hybrid meant that she had increased strength in two folds, so carrying him wasn't a problem.

She waved the two men goodbye as she entered her house and locked the door.

Settling the man on the biggest sofa in her living room, she listened to his heartbeat again. She could hear a faint rhythmic beating.

It was truly a miracle that he was still alive.

The room was a little bit cold and she would need to discard the man's bloody clothes to be able to see the full extent of the damage the bite had caused.

Standing up, Gwen headed over to the small furnace that was in the living room and started adding bits of chopped wood into it. When she was done, she lit a fire.

Next was getting off the clothes of the man. She started with his shoes and when she looked at them, they looked very expensive.

Designer shoes to be exact. He must probably be a rich man, but what had he been doing in an alley?

She took off both shoes, next came his suit and finally his white shirt that had splotches of blood all over it. She started with the lower buttons of the shirt and slowly made her way up.

Taking the shirt away from his body, she noticed two things.

First he was deadly fit. His broad chest was in perfect symmetry with his perfectly formed abs and Gwen couldn't resist running her arms around them.

They felt perfect in her arms.

She laughed. Here she was physically defiling an unconscious man.

The second thing she had noticed was that his body had the same colour throughout. Whenever one was bit by a vampire, the lower body started becoming pale and there would be green networks of veins running through the abdomen to the chest.

But his body was perfectly normal and still evenly colored and warm. It was as though he was never bitten.

That was very strange. She had never seen someone being bitten and still maintaining their colour and body heat.

Gwen turned the head of the man and proceeded to check how deep the bite wound on his neck was.

It was deep.

Again, it was a miracle that he was still alive.

She went over to the little table in the living room and opened a drawer compartment. Inside it, she pulled out a metallic black box and opened it.

The base of the box had been cushioned with a soft red material that had a velvety texture. Gwen had done it to be able to safeguard the contents of the box from breaking or from a mechanical accident.

Lying on the red velvet was three vials of blood—specifically her blood.

She took out one and looked at it. She couldn't believe she was about to give up her blood to save a human stranger that had been bitten badly.

Gwen only used her blood to heal in severe conditions where she knew that it was either her blood or death.

In the corner of her mind, she knew she was willing to help the man lying down on her sofa.

If he had been able to survive an attack such as that, then it meant that he had the will to survive.

Closing the box, she went over to the sofa, parted his lips slightly, and poured the blood inside. Almost instantly his body responded to the healing properties of her blood and she could feel his heart beating more stronger.

He heaved a sigh and Gwen patted a shock of his hair away from his face.

He would survive.
