Chapter 31

　　DAMIEN:

　　"What did you say you are? Pregnant?" I ask with the intent to clarify what I just heard.

　　She nodded. "Yes, I am. We're going to have a child soon, Damien."

　　A smile was mounted on her face and, to be honest, I wasn't entirely sure what to feel or how to react to the news of knowing that she was with child... With my child.

　　I'm a lot skeptical right now. Maybe even more than confused. I just didn't expect to be hit with this sudden news.

　　She notices my expression and the smile falls off her face. "You don't seem too happy about it," she points out, her voice a mixture of hurt and confusion.

　　"Sorry, Carmella, but we've been together for over four years now. In that time, we weren't able to get a child no matter how hard we tried. I'm only surprised that you're suddenly pregnant now."

　　"Do you doubt that this isn't your child I'm carrying?"

　　"Not at all. That's not what I'm saying."
