Finder's keeper

“My lord,” Sydney offered her greetings to Zacharias when he entered the villa, “I have gathered all the men you asked me last time,” Sydney said, still bowing.

“Arise,” Zacharias’s menacing and emotionless voice sent a shiver to Sydney, “I want to ask you things I’m bothered with,”

“Anything you want to know, my lord,”

“About Vera,” Sydney almost chocked upon hearing her name, “She started to undergo the shift when she got back from the Village and had an unsuccessful transition of body,” Sydney heard Zacharias grit his teeth from annoyance, “I already deal with the witch who tried to steal her body,”

“Can you confirm that she was not my mate? Why do we share the curse?” Zacharias confusingly asked Sydney.

“I’m still looking for further information about it, but for now, I beg for your mercy and look after her in the meantime, for she may or may not be your mate; however, her blood was utterly provoking, and this can lead to her being in danger,”

“Are you asking me to be her bodyguard?! What kind of profanity is that?!” In just a split second, Sydney could barely breathe, her feet were now a few inches from the ground, and she was holding her neck, “Don’t ask me to do absurd things!”

“M-my l-lord!” Sydney couldn’t utter a word correctly; she was almost out of breath, “N-no! T-there i-is a re-reason! I h-have a p-point! I p-promise!”

Zacharias put her down, then sat; he sharply sighed, “Then make it!”

Sydney catches her breathe, “Her body is special,” Zacharias’s brow furrowed, “That witch was well known for stealing extraordinary kinds of bodies; it may be a witch, a wizard, even a wolf, or vampire if possible, there was this one time, one hundred years ago, she stole a body of a human child, and drained the life force of the whole village. She can drain both life forces along with their abilities,”

Zacharias muttered curses, “How about Vera? What did that bitch get from her?” he asked while massaging the tip of his nose.

“For some reason, Sinatra has failed to absorb anything from her, but because she had a powerful spell for the process, it unlocks and broke some of the barriers Vera has,”

“What barrier? Who the hell put a barrier? And why the hell would someone put that to her? Does someone curse her?”

“That might be from her parents before she was sent to the mortal world, a protection barrier so that no one can identify who she was,” Sydney looked at Zacharias, “With this, there is a higher chance that Vera wasn’t simply a little wolf, she might come from a noble family who wish to protect her, and the spell that keeps her safe was about to break,”

“Then, won’t that be good? We can find her real identity?”

Sydney shook her head, “No, my lord, Vera will be put in a great danger once that happens; the rogue will surely hunt the scent of her blood; you know it better than anyone; you’ve got to taste her blood, and we both know that you barely and inches away from killing her that day,”

Zacharias gritted his teeth, remembering the night—the first time in his existence that he lost control over his own body and desire, “You have to know first how to break this curse; I can’t let someone be my witness, especially her. I want answers two days from now, or else I will personally kill her—”

“You can’t kill her, my lord,” Zacharias’s brow furrowed, “Based on the books I have read, this shared curse was blood link; you can feel what she feels, you can be wounded through her, and death wasn’t excluded to that, it means that when you kill her—you will die with her,”

“Damn it!” Zacharias silently cussed, frustrated with his current situation; he couldn’t accept the fact that his life now depended on a feeble wolf.

“My apologies, my lord,” Sydney muttered, careful with her words; she could see how furious Zacharias was now, and she couldn’t make any possible mistake at the moment, or it will cost her life.

“Let me know when you have a concrete explanation and solution to this goddamn problem,” Zacharias said, “Anyway, what happened to the rog—” Zacharias halted, upon the sudden feeling of fear and danger, “What the fuck?!” Zacharias exclaimed and held his tightened chest, “What the fuck is happening to me—damn it! Vera!”

In just a snap, both were running to a single place—Vera’s home.

“Are you sure she’s at home?” Zacharias confusingly asked while both of them were running; Sydney could catch up with him, for she was in her wolf form.

“Yes, my lord! I can feel her presence!” Sydney said, focusing on the aura she could feel, “My lord!” Zacharias gave her a glimpse, “Cel’s presence is vanishing!”

“Shit, there must be witchcraft behind this shit!” it lasted for three minutes before they were able to reach Vera’s house; upon entering, they felt strong magic barring the whole house, “It can’t be Sinatra; you killed her, didn’t you?”

Sydney nodded, still looking at the house, “Yes, my lord, I have slayed the witch who wants to take over her body; this is a new set of magic, my lord; I never felt this powerful,”

“Vera!” Zacharias shouted, looking for the lady, “Come on!” Zacharias shouted, losing his patience as the pain started to penetrate through his bones.

In just a snap, they were both in front of Vera’s room; without thinking twice, Zacharias slammed the door, and there—he saw a person whom he couldn’t identify, for that creature was wearing a cloak covering his whole face and body. They heard a sinister laugh; in front of them was Vera—floating in the air, unconscious. The life force of Vera was visible to their eyes.

“I told you, Rogue! Find your mate before I do! Now,” the man laughed again, “Finder’s keeper!”
