A/N: Read the tags, leave a comment if you like it so far, constructive criticism is always welcome to help me improve, though don't be too harsh, this is the first novel I've ever written. Maddie’s Magic

A/N: This is an actual chapter now, thank you for waiting and being so understanding.

They get to the house, Talia showing Maddie around with Morgana's help, they end up sitting under Talia's tree in the backyard.

"I really like your house" Maddie tells the girls.

"Me too" Morgana says flying around them.

"It's nice, and being around nature it's really good for my magic, but I miss having more people around sometimes" Talia tells her.

"I guess, though people can get really annoying sometimes" Maddie makes a face remembering some of the people she met through her young life.

Talia giggles at the sight of her face wondering what she's thinking about.

"It's better than moving around though, at least you have some security about that, me and my dad have been traveling around for as long as I can remember, couldn't make friends without losing contact soon after, always had to be ready to move again within a day's notice cause his job would call for him somewhere else" Maddie says looking down and picking at her nails.

"Yeah" Talia gives her a side hug, as they're sitting side by side. "But he opened a store now and quit that job, so you won't be getting rid of me that easily" Talia rests her head on Maddie's shoulder.

Maddie smiles at that "Somehow I believe you would find me even if I hadn't come to you first" She rests her head against Talia's.

"That's because I would" Talia takes Maddie's hand and intertwines their fingers together.

They both smile and watch the clouds move in the sky with Morgana flying above them for a while.

"So" Talia says after sometime "wanna start those magic lessons today?"

"Can we?" Maddie asks excited.

"Sure" Talia answers "but first it would be best if we found out what your affinity is first"

"Oh… You know how to do that?" Maddie asks.

Talia shrugs "Can't hurt to try" she bites her lip and whispers "I think".

Maddie stares at her, having clearly heard that little whisper. "It's okay, I trust you".

Talia nods, stands up and sits back down right in front of Maddie this time. "Okay, I had this done to me once so I'll try to remember how it was like and do the same for you okay? It doesn't hurt or anything, it's just a little warm feeling, so if you feel any pain or anything weird let me know and we'll stop, got it?" Talia holds both of Maddie's hands in hers.

"Got it" Maddie nods closing her eyes in anticipation "I'm ready"

Talia closes her eyes as well, picturing Mary's actions from all those years ago, she lets a tiny little bit of power flow through Maddie and waits to see what happens.

[Talia]

'What?'

[Something weird just happened]

'What? I didn't feel anything weird what are you talking about?'

[Oh, I see…]

'What? What's going on?' Talia asks starting to feel worried.

[Oh, it's nothing bad, you just discovered your innate power]

'What? How? What is it?'

[Just now when you copied Mary's spell from all those years ago, your innate power is to mimic, Talia]

'uhm, analyze mimic power'

[Mimic: Can analyze and copy any spell it sees being casted, only being able to copy spells when the caster possesses the necessary skills or powers to do so.]

'Necessary skills or powers being like…?'

[Think lightning. You wouldn't be able to just copy a lightning spell without even knowing fire and air first, but as long as you saw it being casted and you analyzed it, you could replicate it later on once the proper skills and powers have been acquired]

'Oh, so, basically I can learn whatever is used in front of me?'

[Technically, yes]

'Awesome'

[It's quite a rare power to have actually, it appears only once every century in this world's history]

'Sounds like a huge cheat too'

[It is]

'How come it only showed up now?'

[It's because you only tried to use it now, you're not really seeing people use magic all the time and this was the first time you tried to copy a spell. Yes, innate powers have been with you since you were born, but think about this: someone born with the innate power of breathing under water that doesn't live near any kind of bodies of water and doesn't have a bathtub or anything like that. They would never know their power]

'That's just sad'

[It is, but it's life, innate powers can be anything, while affinities tend to follow the bloodline, which is why they can go undiscovered for a lifetime while even without testing for affinities one can guess them by looking at their family tree and trying those out]

"Oh" Talia says watching attentively as she feels microscopic cracks form in the space around them.

"What? Wasn't something supposed to happen?" Maddie asks looking around not seeing anything.

'Can't she see it?'

[I don't think so, the only reason you can see anything is through your meditation and the awareness you've got from the elements around you]

'Is that why her family doesn't do well with magic?'

[Probably, if they can't see her affinity, they'll probably say she doesn't have one and since witches start their magic journey training with their affinity, starting anywhere else would be indescribably difficult, like there's a lock to one's magic and your affinity is your key]

'That explains a lot. So, what magic are those cracks around us?'

[Dimensional]

"You're a dimensional witch"

[With focus on space]

"With focus on space"

Maddie smiles wide still looking around for a sign of her magic.

"It's hard to visualize right now, but once you start practicing and if you start meditating, you'll be able to see it better" Talia explains.

"Are you sure though? I've only heard of dimensional witches in legends, like the really, really old ones" Maddie asks playing with her fingers nervously.

"I'm sure" Talia confirms. "Wanna try to start practicing now?"

"Yes, please" Maddie nods enthusiastically.

'How do we do this Clover?'

[Dimensional magic in this world is formed by space, gravity and time, you can guide her to train space by giving her a box to try and make it bigger or smaller on the inside, gravity by changing objects gravity making it light to the point of floating or heavy to the point of it being immovable and time by throwing a small object and making it return to its original place on its on, basically reversing time only around the small object, not that she would be able of anything really big at the beginning anyway]

'Thank you, Clover'

[You're welcome]

Talia repeats what Clover told her to Maddie and Maddie starts practicing right away excited about actually having a power after thinking herself incapable of magic for so long.

They end up spending hours outside with Maddie being able to use at least a little of each of her three types of magic as Talia analyzes everything Maddie is doing for future use, she's not going to start learning a whole other category of magic before at least getting all her elements to advanced, but knowing that with her mimicry she'll be able to use this information later, she decides to pay close attention to everything Maddie is doing.

"Girls, Dinner is ready!" Georgia calls.

"Already?" Maddie looks around seeing it got dark without her even realizing.

"I know, right? it happens to me too, I get so focused on my magic I don't feel the time passing around me" Talia says.

Maddie looks around for Morgana and sees her resting on a tree branch watching them. "C'mon Morgana let's all go have dinner together" She calls.

"Okay" Morgana says flying d down and landing on Maddie's shoulder causing Maddie to smile happily.

Talia watches the two smiling, and the three girls head inside to have dinner with Talia's parents.

"Wash your hands girls" Tim says as they enter the kitchen.

The girls nod and go wash their hands, they then sit at the table to have dinner.

"So, what did you girls do today?" Georgia asks and starts to eat her dinner.

"Talia taught me magic!!!" Maddie says grinning.

"What? Are you an elemental witch too?" Tim asks.

"No, Talia tested my affinity and it's dimensional magic" Maddie explains.

"Then how did Talia taught you a kind of magic she doesn't even know?" Tim asks looking at Talia questionally.

'Uhm, Clover, how do I answer that?'

[Improvise and look cute, if it doesn't work pout with teary eyes and I'm sure your mother will help you]

"I just guessed" She shrugs. "I told her to start small, like my elements and go from there". That seems to convince Tim.

"That was very smart of you baby" Georgia tells her "Did it work?" She asks Maddie.

"It DID, I could never do magic before, but this worked" She answers excited "I thought I didn't have any magic, but Talia proved me wrong" She kisses Talia's cheek and both girls blush immediately, looking down to try to hide it.

Tim and Georgia share an amused look at the scene.

They eat dinner with light conversation, all happy and smiling, catching up with the long years they all spent apart, afterwards the girls shower and get ready for bed.

"So… What did you think?" Talia asks lying on her bed.

"What did I think of what?" Maddie asks lying on Morgana's bed, which is the same size as Talia's for no reason since Morgana is tiny, basically a cat sized dragon at the moment.

"Everything, the town, the house, the magic" She elaborates, "me" she whispers under her breath.

"It's perfect" Maddie smiles "All of it, I have a place that won't change every few months, the town seems lovely, and the magic is more than I've ever had the hope of getting, besides, I get my best friend in the whole world around, what else could I ask for?"

Talia grins at that, feeling incredibly happy.

"Today was the best" Talia says "I'm glad to have you back in my life, I know we've only met for a day before we got separated, but I've missed you so much"

"It's a little weird how much I missed you too" Maddie says.

"Goodnight Maddie, Goodnight Morgana" Talia says scratching Morgana's head on her shoulder.

"Goodnight Talia, Goodnight Morgana" Maddie answers.

"G'night mommy, g'night Maddie" Morgana answers already feeling really sleepy.

The girls fall into a deep, sound sleep after such a light, happy, but eventful day.
