The Aeternus Universe

The year of humanity is 2415, and DDVR and VRMMORPG's are commonplace now. It's extremely hard for a new game to come out and be successful. The greats of these genres have ruled for a few centuries now. A new game is releasing soon, and it has promise to be one of those. The Aeternus Universe. A Virtual Reality game has what you would expect from a game in this genre. However, some things make it special. One of those being the exploration and adventure through galaxies and The Aeternus Universe. Other games in this genre take it to fantasy and medieval times. This is set in a universe where there are super advanced technologies, spaceships, and Mecha suits—lost Alien tech ready to be found and claimed. Some of these all come together. The story starts 2 days before the release of the game, and with our protagonist—a 20-year-old male by the name of Scott Autumn. He is one of the few jumping from the current major game to this one. Seeing its potential for greatness and chance to be one of the biggest games on the market.

~~~(POV: Dr. Grace Virgil)~~~
~~~(Location: Teller-Bravo Superfleet, Keliose System)~~~

The footage from the space station and colony in the Gord-Prime system has shed some much-needed light on the Parasite and its capabilities.

Teller-Bravo's high command authorized a test on a live site filled with healthy hosts, but I never imagined everything that's happened. The Carrier form of the Parasite seems the most interesting to me.

While the Combat and Capturing forms of the Parasite are also worth studying, the Carrier is where the information is located. From what I've seen, the Carrier form latches onto any victim.

Living or dead that has brain matter. It takes complete control over the victim and uses its body to become either a Combat form. To fight armed assailants, or it turns into a Capturing form.

The Capturing form takes live or dead victims to a sort of hive and is turned into biomass. The next stage in the parasite's chain of evolution is unknown to us at this time, the cameras have been cut off at the space station, and all we have now are recordings.

I'd love a live feed of what's going on in that space station. The information is limited, and Teller-Bravo is planning to destroy the site.

There is a debate in high command right now, whether to keep the station and his growing infestation alive or not. Personally, they need to secure the station, and we need to do an on-site study.

"Dr. Virgil, Teller-Bravo's high command is waiting for you."

My assistant comes through the door and informs me of something far less interesting to me.

~~~(POV: Durado)~~~
~~~(Location: Immortalitas, Safehouse Space System)~~~

Larzacks is unconscious in the interrogation room, and I'm all alone on the Command Bridge. There is nothing left of the fleet that attacked. It's been obliterated.

Not any debris is left over. The weapon that Immortalitas used vaporized the fleet, and space is what's left. The massive gas giant below the massive dreadnaught is what's keeping me company at the moment.

My thoughts are interrupted by an incoming transmission, but not on the ship. One is coming on my personal communicator.

I lift it off my belt, and I see a figure light up. Someone that I've only talked to on a few occasions, and it's none other than my inside man at Teller-Bravo.

"Dr. Hamlton, to what do I owe the pleasure..."

He looks like hell, maybe even worse.

He takes a shaky breath and tries to find his words.

"I need your help, Durado... There is a lot to explain, but I can't do it over an unsecured frequency. I need to meet you, is there anywhere that we can talk?"

This is strange and something I never thought would happen. He wants to meet in person. This means only a couple of things, and they're not good.

Bringing him here isn't a good idea. Immortalitas will probably destroy anything that appears in the system. It's not like I can meet him anywhere either, the ship doesn't respond to any of my commands, and I'm essentially dead in space.

"I'm afraid there isn't any way we can meet at this time, Hamlton. Once I can meet you, I'll contact you."

He doesn't look happy.

He shuts off the comms, and I'm met with the ship's silence and the endless ocean of stars.

"Scott, I hope you get back soon cause I'm getting sick and tired of waiting for you..."

He's a good and smart as hell kid, but sometimes, I wonder if I made the right choice in taking him on as my apprentice. His advantages far out weight his disadvantages.

~~~(POV: Dr. Emile Hamlton)~~~
~~~(Location: Hyperspace, heading to Plosis Prime)~~~

I should've known that Durado couldn't help me, but I'm completely out of options yet.

Plosis and its trade worlds have everything I need to sink into the background and disappear from Teller-Bravo. They're likely searching for any survivors of the experiment they ran on an entire terraforming colony and space station.

The existence of the Parasite is something they want to keep hidden for as long as possible.

"Oi, Emile! When are we arriving at Plosis!"

Kyle enters the Command Deck and takes a seat in the captain's chair. I'm glad that I'm not the only survivor of the hell we escaped. The rest of the passengers are going to be hunted too. I can help them, and I will.
