A Man's Will

Tongue-tied, it took a moment before everyone realized what the kid was saying.

" Flynn!, apologise to Maverick. "

Stella admonished her son.

Stella and Colton already noticed Maverick's infatuation to Thalia ages ago.

They approved of him, as the kid has a straightforward personality with good potential, and doesn't mind about the young girl's plight. Not only that, the person himself isn't the kind of man who plays around women, making him an already good marriage candidate.

Stella's words fell on deaf ears.

" A challenge from a kid like me made him scared? does wittle Mavewick need his binkie? "

Flynn mocked with utter disdain.

The reason he is doing this is not only a test of character, but also to find out his strength in battle.

Flynn wants to find out what this pretty boy Maverick can do in face of dirty tricks. Not all do play fair in battle. Victory goes to the living in a struggle to the death.

" You've got quite a mouth there kid. I like it! " Arnost chimed in.

Arnost took a liking to this child.

Who dares to mock the eldest son of Arnost, the king's Royal Guard, in front of Arnost himself!

" Arnost, don't fan the flames! Which side are you anyways?! " Colton reprimanded.

" Oh come on, Colt! Maverick here can't even beat me, much less that child. "

Arnost's words made their jaws drop.

Hearing his statement, Flynn scoffed with disdain and proceeds to head to the courtyard.

" But father, that's impossible! a little twerp like him can beat a grown man like brother? are you insane?! " Jonathan fired out.

A 7 year-old versus an adult. It's pretty obvious who will be the victor isn't it? But Arnost didn't retrieve his words.

" Let's see about that. " he smirked.

Arnost then walked out to the courtyard.

" Father, mother, let's persuade Flynn to stop his shenanigans. "

Thalia directed her question to her parents. She knew what Flynn's intentions were, but she couldn't risk the safety of her little brother for her sake. This hurt her feelings even more when she didn't even know what to do to settle this incident peacefully.

Colton and Stella also wanted him to cancel this foolish bout, but they couldn't. Those fiery eyes, he's determined to squash the poor man to pieces!

You might be thinking, how can a kid achieve that? the deed itself IS logically impossible.

" Impossible. You know what he's like, takes his temper after his mother. " Colton replied with resignation.

The three sighed helplessly. Seeing these gestures, the guests couldn't help but be confused.

" Will Flynn be alright, Thalia? " Julie's concern for the kid was as if he was her very own brother. Julie couldn't be blamed though, for she is an only child in her family.

Thalia found Julie's concern to be quite intriguing, considering how strong Flynn was.

She sighed with resignation.

" Anyways, let's just follow them. Maverick, just have a bout with him. "

All of them then went to the courtyard, greeted by two muscular men, an expressionless maid, and a child holding a pair of wooden swords.

Only Maverick approached Flynn, who wordlessly threw one of the swords to the young man.

" Are you sure we should do this, Flynn? " The young man asked with concern.

" Have more concern for yourself, punk. " Flynn scoffed.

Maverick sighed.

He then changed his posture to a sword stance.

' A good foundation, I see. The old man taught his son well. ' Flynn thought.

But of course, in the eyes of a true expert, a fresh blood like Maverick is stripped naked. Full of openings.

Flynn gave a shout and charged at Maverick, albeit clumsily.

The guests sighed at the scene. For them this is just a hopeless situation. a charge like that can be easily broken by a trained individual. Only Arnost, and the Crane household knew this was a feint.

Flynn slashed diagonally at Maverick, who also gave his own slash.

The impact showed who was stronger, in the eyes of an amateur. An adult is stronger than a child,normally of course.

As the sword flew away from Flynn, Maverick then sighed internally and thought about how to appease this little man.

But this was a fatal mistake.

Flynn lowered his posture, and suddenly let out a magic infused shoryuken!

The uppercut cleanly hit Maverick in his chin, which sent him flying a few meters back.

Seeing Maverick fly like a broken kite, the audience had bewildered faces.

Flynn rushed at him mid-flight intending to follow through.

Surprise filled Maverick as pain coursed throughout his body. But he quickly reacted and tried to strike while preparing to lessen the impact.

Flynn saw through him, and dodged the sword by using a wind spell Callan taught him, [ Air Step ].

A heel landed on Maverick's abdomen.

Maverick slammed down into the ground, as dust spread the area due to the impact.

With a metallic bittersweet sensation ejected out through his mouth, he questioned how strong a 7 year old can physically be? No wonder the kid had the guts to call out a duel. The most surprising thing is that his own father also foretold of his defeat!

Stupefied, the onlookers had their mouths wide open as Flynn stood near with a chilling expressionless face, letting out an aura of disdain.

" What... just happened?! " Jonathan yelled out. He couldn't believe what his eyes are seeing. His elder brother, who is stronger than him was beaten up by a kid with only two moves, excluding the miraculous mid-air dodge he used.

The most affect of this all was the Crane family. The child they pegged as a genius was even more monstrous than imagined!

The reason is because of the level gap that exists between both parties.

When a person aged, his level would naturally increased.

This is only until the said individual is at his/her prime age.

the level increment is only up to level 5, which is very low.

A level can only be increased even more than that when killing beings such as monsters, demons, undead and of course, humans.

This is through absorbing the mana of the defeated individual.

And Maverick's level was at Level 13!

He just defeated a person with a higher level by ten times!

' How weak, the old man must've not taught to never underestimate your opponents. ' Flynn critiqued the poor man.

It's a good thing the gallery did not know of this little monster's thoughts, or else they will puke blood.

Seconds passed and just as when Flynn was about to turn around, a weak Maverick let out strained coughs.

" *cough* *cough* How... did...you..do that?! "

Gritting his teeth, Maverick stood up from the ground. Panting heavily, he decides to use the beginner magic spell, [ Light Heal ].

This idiot just used a spell that leaved him vulnerable. This made Flynn's mouth twitch.

[ Light Heal ] is the first healing spell of the Light Attribute. Although in the book of beginner spells Flynn read had [ Cure ] as the very first magic to be learnt, it is nonetheless not a direct healing spell.

[ Cure ] is only used for light sickness, such as the common cold, fever and the like. The reason why

[ Light Heal ] wasn't part of the book is because of the restriction the Church of Light put. Only they can use all healing spells, while academies can teach only [ Cure], [ Light Heal], and [ Heal ], a stronger version of [ Heal ].

" Are you kidding me? why would I sell out my secrets to someone like you? "

Flynn believed that the concept of explaining your abilities to your opponents is what idiots like cliched villains, no matter big or small, will and will always do.

It's unexplained why such habits tend to be found within even the most scheming of all villains.

As a gentleman, Flynn waited for Maverick to heal his wounds. Out of sheer boredom, he plops into the ground, and yawns.

The act irritated Jonathan.

" Hey kid your in a duel, why are disrespecting my brother?! "

Flynn replied nonchalantly, " Do you want me to hit a dog when it's down? "

Angered, Jonathan shouted " Your a goddamn dog! You and your - "

Arnost hit his son before he could continue before reprimanding him.

" Don't you know that the kid is giving your brother a consideration despite his mistakes?! Do you want to be beaten half-dead without fighting back?! "

Jonathan shuddered at the thought. But he realized what this little devil brought him.

Although he is scared of getting beaten half-dead, he can't just let his brother be humiliated like this!

He already had a deep grudge on Flynn because of the ever-so-sweet Julie, he's not gonna take another slap without facing it like a man!

Just as when he would act, he suddenly felt the world dim.

Arnost made him faint by a strike to the back of his neck.

" Sorry kid, little John here is pretty emotional. "

Flynn chuckled, " I noticed. "

With a wry smile, he set Jonathan aside to be cared by a servant.

A man will sometimes try to show of in front of a girl without considering the moment.

This proves to show that Jonathan was such an idiot.

A man's will shows how foolish he can be.

Looking back at Maverick who finished his act of healing, he gave a slight smirk.

" Maverick, show him how in love you are with the lass. "

With a determined expression Maverick shouted.

" For Thalia's love! "

Flynn smirked. He liked the man's tenacity. ' It'll be fun training him. ' he thought.

Flynn answered Maverick's shout of passion with a taunt.

" Come at me, fight me like I'm going to take elder sister's life! "
