Tethered Pair

Wars are fought on many fronts. A battle is raging across New Colorado Protectorate with both human and demonic players. Todd and Nick Ruger are sentries with an arsenal of talents and training to combat threats from a variety of enemies. Todd and Nick are given a mission to find and stop weapons smugglers by going undercover on the riverboat, Annabelle. These aren't typical arms dealers, they're demons and they're not afraid of a pair of sentries. The Rugers will have to use all their skills and their most powerful weapon, the bond between them, just to stay alive. Stopping the supply of illegal weapons turns to trying, and failing, to thwart an assassination. Todd and Nick have each other, but will they be able to keep their love intact?

Chapter 40

Todd resumed his efforts, useless as they might be. He squirmed and managed to slide a few inches down the wall, pulling one shoulder forward. The threats and obscenities he tried to shout at Benning were trapped in his throat. Nothing but garbled, pathetic sounds left his mouth.

Nick’s lips were starting to turn blue, and the twitching of his limbs slowed while his eyes bulged even more. Todd experienced the odd sensation of feeling his own heartbeat become more and more sluggish. His vision was starting to gray out, and the weird choking sounds he was making sounded far away.

Todd was dying. Worse yet, he knew Nick was as well. They were separated by only a few feet, yet Todd wouldn’t even be able to hold his young mate’s hand as they died. Nick would be alone.
