Tethered Pair

Wars are fought on many fronts. A battle is raging across New Colorado Protectorate with both human and demonic players. Todd and Nick Ruger are sentries with an arsenal of talents and training to combat threats from a variety of enemies. Todd and Nick are given a mission to find and stop weapons smugglers by going undercover on the riverboat, Annabelle. These aren't typical arms dealers, they're demons and they're not afraid of a pair of sentries. The Rugers will have to use all their skills and their most powerful weapon, the bond between them, just to stay alive. Stopping the supply of illegal weapons turns to trying, and failing, to thwart an assassination. Todd and Nick have each other, but will they be able to keep their love intact?

Chapter 24

“You deal cards? I admit I didn’t see that one coming,” Todd said as they walked out of the poker salon.

“I’m a well-rounded woman of many accomplishments,” Heidi said.

After depositing Heidi at her room and getting away almost unscathed, he glanced at his watch, surprised to see several hours had passed since Nick had left the poker salon. He gave some thought to going into the billiards hall to see if Nick was still there. Then he decided against it since he really wasn’t supposed to know Nick was in there playing pool.

Todd went straight to their suite, unlocking and pushing the door open, then calling out, “Nicky. Still awake?” He stopped in the doorway of the bedroom to let his eyes adjust to the lower light. “Nick?” The bedroom was empty. The door to the bath was open, so Todd checked there. “Nicky?”
