Take It If You Dare

Callum just wanted to tend to his farm and maybe raise a family. His simple dreams are shattered when tragedy befalls him. He now finds himself stranded far from the world he knew and must struggle to survive in a harsh land. Join him in his journey to make a place for himself. A true weak-to-strong character growth will have Callum struggling early on. But he tackles each challenge and grows stronger. He levels up, finds new allies, finds loot, and gets good. The story will also feature castle/city building as well as kingdom building. This story contains adult themes. I encourage you to read auxiliary chapter "Note on R18 content" to get an idea of what to expect. TLDR on that auxiliary chapter is that R18 chapters will be clearly marked with no major plot points in them; meaning they can easily be skipped if that's not your thing.

Battle Conclusion

The tanks from the three parties moved forward as they tried to taunt the lindwurm away from the vulnerable ranged classes it was targeting. The backline classes were caught by surprise at the speed of its advance, and they were just now starting to fall back.

The lindwurm paused briefly to launch another spray of icicles that shattered several barriers that had been erected in front of the group's battleline. This bought Jin enough time to grab onto one of the forelimbs and attack from the side.

The lindwurm inhaled and then the loudest roar so far sounded throughout the battlefield.

_____

Warning: You have been attacked with Dragon's Fury; mental attack resisted.

_____

Callum quickly shook off the daze that he started to fall under, but half of the group was paralyzed, including Boren who stood right in the path of the once more charging lindwurm.

"<<Spirit Armor>>" Callum yelled as he jumped in front of a descending claw. He brought up his axe and steadied himself.

_____

Callum woke up to the soothing pulse of a healing spell, and he blearily stared at a dark form kneeling over him as he lay flat on his back in the snow. As his vision improved, he recognized Pham Vinh the Grand Cleric, a recent addition to their small number of Advanced Classes.

A floating notification box hovered in his vision. Both of arms had been broken as well as several ribs to go along with a collapsed lung. Callum winced as he saw how low his HP was, and that was after he had some healing.

Callum Murray | Lvl 24 Human Druimborn Warrior (XP: 27%)

HP:(119/720) Stamina:(288/288) Mana:(630/630)

ST:68(+6) | Con:72(+9) | Dex:44(+9) | Int:63(+9) | Will:54(+6) | Cha:35(+3) | Luck:18(+2)

"Don't move, I'm still dealing with all of your broken bones," Vinh told Callum when he tried to sit up.

Even as Vinh channelled the healing spell into Callum's body, he was working another spell with his other hand. He sent it off to somewhere outside of Callum's limited sight range, he could hear that the battle still raged on.

He relaxed slightly when he saw that Boren's party icon indicated that he was alive and well.

"Shit, gotta go," Vinh said as he quickly rushed off.

Callum stood up carefully, the broken bone debuffs were gone. However, he wasn't fully healed and still had the collapsed lung debuff that halved his overall stamina as well as his stamina regeneration.

He picked up his axe. It was still in one piece, but like him, it had sustained heavy damage. Callum looked up and saw that he had been flung some distance away from where he remembered trying to block the attack on the defenseless Boren.

The battle had devolved into a chaotic mess, many melee classes were dancing around the lindwurm, who was down to half health. The ranged classes were keeping their distance as they continued to pelt the monster with their attacks.

Off to the side, Callum saw that Vinh was treating a heavily injured tank that was lying prone in the snow.

In the middle of it all, the Fire Elemental and the lindwurm continued to clash together; Cadiwynn had morphed into a giant bear and was trying to help Jin control the aggressive monster.

A small Flame Sprite—somebody's summoned construct—was flying around the lindwurm. The lindwurm was ineffectually trying to chomp down on the flighty construct that looked like the Fire Elemental's tiny annoying baby brother as it buzzed the lindwurm's face.

Callum was about to summon his own creature into battle, when he noticed that the scales were much smaller around the forelimbs. He was charging in at an angle behind the monster, and he was looking at it's armpit.

He didn't hesitate when he noticed this, and quickly used <<Long Reach>> to strike at the vulnerable area. Unlike most of the melee attacks, this strike cut deep into the monster and did 68 points of damage in one attack.

This was a massive amount of damage against the otherwise heavily armored and magic resistant monster.

It whirled around and immediately lunged at Callum; it's coiled body let it quickly strike out at distant enemies. Callum's eyes widened as he witnessed how quickly his attack had pissed off the lindwurm.

"Oh, shit!" Callum yelled as he dove to the side. He had just enough time to finally start <<Summon Spirit>>.

The summoned spirit was just starting to form when the lindwurm crashed into it and the nebulous form dissipated. He didn't even have time to witness what he had summoned before it vanished.

However, it slowed down the lindwurm just enough to allow Callum to safely get out of the way.

The others witnessed how vulnerable the armpits were, and they were quick to start targeting whichever armpit they could. Others shouted out the vulnerability to ensure that everyone knew of the weak point.

Callum was just getting back up to his feet, when the lindwurm whirled about to attack him once more. He cringed and tried to set himself as best as he could; the speed of the monster's second attack left him unable to dodge away a second time.

Garrett was suddenly standing before Callum, and he shouted out a taunt at the lindwurm. Instead of attacking Callum, the lindwurm barrelled into the Paladin—who was sent flying.

Cadiwynn roared out her displeasure at her husband's brief flight.

By now, Callum had picked himself back up. His <<Long Reach>> was still on cooldown, but the lindwurm was right beside him and it was paying attention to something that was happening on the other side of it.

Callum used the planted forelimb on this side as a springboard to jump on top of the creature. He buried his Battle Axe into the armpit as deep as he could, and he quickly dropped his weapon in order to latch onto some spines that ran down the monster's length.

The lindwurm invariably twisted about to attack whatever had struck the powerful blow.

Callum had been expecting this though and he hung tight. No matter how the lindwurm tried, it could not dislodge Callum; he was also close enough to the monster's head that it could not effectively attack him.

In its attempts to dislodge him, the lindwurm made a fatal mistake.

"The underbelly!"

"Go for its belly!"

Multiple cries rang over the battlefield as the lindwurm exposed its underbelly in an attempt to scrape Callum off of its back. Everyone used the powerful magical attacks they had been withholding for just such an opportunity.

Once more, the Fire Elemental's twin fire jets bathed the lindwurm's body in flames. However, this time they were targeting the much more vulnerable underbelly; the scales there were similar to those found in the armpit.

The lindwurm couldn't sustain the onslaught of ranged and magical attacks struck the vulnerable area, and it quickly perished.

A big thanks to RedPandaChick for editing my novel and bringing clarity to my words. Any grammatical or spelling errors are my own, since I probably didn't listen to her sage advice.
