Her mother steps forward and cups Robin's face in her hands. "Darling, we won't be long. We just need to take care of this quickly, and then we'll be back, I promise." She places a gentle kiss on Robin's forehead.

Her father ruffles Robin's hair affectionately. "That's right, little bird. We wouldn't dream of missing your special day."

"And remember if you want anything special for your birthday, anything at all, my darling, you will have it," she adds, her voice soft and reassuring.

Robin's eyes widens, her gaze sparkling with excitement. "Really? Anything?" she asks, her voice barely a whisper.

"Anything at all," her father confirms, his voice filled with unwavering devotion.

"You can take this moment to think about it and you can tell us about it later."

At that robin deflates.

It's a bribe. A good one but still.
