It has been three weeks since he had been released from the hospital. After the second week he had to report back to the Genin Corps since he's medical leave had ended. Slowly but surely he was finding a rhythm to he's new life. With the knowledge now inside he's head ( have to avoid all mind reading clans) he new that for the most part the village would be relatively peaceful for the next 12 years. You know for a military society that employs child soldiers to kill bandits peaceful. Eye roll.
As a Genin in the Genin Corps he was expected to do at least two D rank missions a week along with being in rotation for other duties such as patrols, running messages, or any other of a myriad tasks that those on the lowest pole with little skill get assigned to. No Jonin Sensei to teach him cool jutsu but there was mandatory training run by a Chunin three times a week.
This last week has been hectic for everyone. With all of the deaths and injuries the amount of work along with the disorganization has been a disaster in and of itself. With just graduating from the Academy this year and no specialization they have been assigning me all over the place. Once to two different assignments at once. Luckily it will be a while for the more difficult assignments and missions are something I am expected to do.
Knowing the scope of what is to come I did an assessment of myself and it's not great. I was a average civilian shinobi in the academy. The academy seemed to teach more then what was show in Naruto or at least the requirements to graduate were harder because of the war that ended only two years ago. I was decent in the basic katas, throwing, traps, stealth, surveillance, survival skills, group tactics, first aid ( not healing jutsu just bandages and the like).
For Jutsu I knew the Academy 3, and that was it. Chakra control wise I could do the tree walking exercise and was in the process of learning the water exercise during the Genin Corps training, but that was more focused on group tactics. So no awesome moves and no Jonin instructor to teach me. Apparently a year into the Genin Corps after you have proved yourself and your chakra reserves are decent there is more in depth training of Jutsu. There were some basic E and D rank ones in the library available for Genin shinobi as well just that I haven't learned any of them yet.
For those that get a Jonin Sensei they are supposed to get a more in-depth and focused training. They are usually clan kids ,those that show exceptional potential ,have some kind of Kekkie Genkia or to round out a team that have the before mention cough ( Sakura ) cough.
He had none of those things nor a golden finger damn it! Yeah he was going to work hard but realistically he wasn't Rock Lee and didn't think he could pull off that kind work without breaking an already fragile mind from what he'd already gone through. Plus he needed to walk the line of strong enough to not die and strong enough to get on either the bingo book or Danzu's attention.
With all the crazy bits not happening for another 12 years besides some issues with Lightening there was time for a slow buildup of strength. While those with Jonin Sensei are expected to become chunin within three to four years of graduating for Genin Corps it's an average of seven to eight years to get promoted outside of war time if they stay on the path. If Irueka and Mizuki which both were Chunin in the early twenties and yet not that strong then he can hopefully be at an elite Chunin or special Jonin by the time Naruto graduates and all the crazy goes down.
The thought of becoming a Genin desk jokey or something did pass through his head but with the village being attacked and blown up on more then one occasion he'd rather have some strength. Plus Ninjas lol.
Now the trick would be for him to find some kind of edge the would help him. Although it was like he was living a reincarnation story he couldn't relay on plot armor to help him out.
As he was thinking these thoughts something caught the corner of his eye in a store front window. A smile graced he's face as memories of earth and skill that would actually translate over here and help came to mind. It still wasn't a golden finger, but it might help. If nothing else it could make him different enough then a background character to standout just enough to not be a red shirt.
Walking into the store with a laugh and a smile he asked the clerk how much the bow and quiver of arrows was.
"Oh" the clerk replied " a shinobi, even a young one like you should get one from a shinobi tool shop. That one is made of civilians and has a low weight pull "
Immediately my plan on being unique due to using a bow started to fade.
" I didn't know there was special bows for shinobi "
" Sure " smiling the clerk goes on " your not the first on to think of using a bow to hunt with instead of a kunai" chuckling to himself " though that tends to end after some more experience"
"Hmmm thanks mister I'll have to check them out. Have a nice day"
With that Nic left the store conflicted on he's idea. It seemed that while bows and arrows were used it was mostly for hunting. Probably because they would get in the way of jutsu. Still he remembers going hunting and being pretty good with a bow on earth. With the added benefit of the range of the weapon it could be potential stopover until he raised his strength another way if nothing else.
