Marriage Certificate

A black Porsche stopped outside the office of the Civil Affairs Bureau. Secretary Tang stepped out of the driver's seat and opened the backseat's door while Lu Guangting exited from the passenger seat's door.

Mrs. Lu came out from the backseat while helping Feng Xi to get out of the car. The door closed behind Feng Xi once she was out of the car and she gazed at the tall building in front of her.

Feng Xi had been a lover of manhwas since her teenage days. She even completed her graduation in Digital Arts while dreaming of making her own manhwas one day. Who knew one day she would become the character like a typical manhwa and would marry a man whom she didn't even know.

"Let's go inside. Madam Shen is waiting for us," Secretary Tang replied and led their way to the bureau.

As they entered the office, Feng Xi's eyes landed upon an old lady of her grandmother's age. Her parents greeted Madam Shen and apologized on their behalf to their eldest daughter.

"This is my younger daughter, Lu Feng Xi," Lu Guangting introduced his daughter to Grandma Shen, who greeted the elder of the Shen Family.

"Whatever happened shall not be discussed anymore. Feng Xi is such a beauty," Madam Shen said, who was also the grandmother of Shen Yu Han. She shifted her gaze at Feng Xi and continued, "You look beautiful in this wedding dress. I had a dream of a grand wedding, but my grandson didn't want it."

Feng Xi stayed quiet and searched for her husband.

"Yu Han is gone. You all were late, so…" Madam Shen couldn't complete her words as she didn't know how to explain the odd behavior of her grandson. She hugged Feng Xi and asked her to proceed with the procedure.

'What kind of marriage is this? A wedding without a groom?' Feng Xi thought.

She wished to ask how she would get married without her groom, but little did she know that that person had already signed the new registration papers and torn off the previous one.

"Miss Lu, please sign here." The Bureau officer said, who appeared so suddenly and pointed at the paper while placing the pen over the paper.

Lu Feng Xi sat first on the chair and signed it with a trembling hand. With a red seal, which her mother handed to Feng Xi, she stamped it over the paper that the officer mentioned to her.

Once the process ended, the officer took a picture of the marriage registration card and asked them to wait.

Lu Guangting and his wife smiled as the registration for the marriage happened. Madam Shen, on the other hand, was eagerly waiting for the official document to come.

Shortly, the red book for the wedding was out, and Feng Xi's name was called, but before she could go and receive it, Grandma Shen stood up and took the red book from the lady-in-charge there.

Turning to Feng Xi, Grandma Shen said, "Let me keep these red books for a while. I will give you back when I am done looking at them enough." Grandma Shen never once had her eyes left the books.

Lu Feng Xi found it weird; first, her so-called husband was missing from the wedding, and now she could not even keep her wedding registration with her. Nevertheless, those books had no meaning for her. It was a marriage with no meaning. The biggest sign was her husband's disappearance from the Bureau.

"Alright, grandma. You can keep it." She said that and smiled.

"Good, good. You are a kind child," Grandma Shen said and hugged Mrs. Lu this time. "Thank you so much for helping us keep the words of Late Elder Shen."

"Please forgive us for this inconvenience. Our eldest made a huge mistake and—" Mrs. Lu said and paused as Lu Guangting told his wife they should now be happy for Feng Xi and Shen Yu Han's marriage.

'Be happy? How can I be happy in a marriage where Yu Han didn't even think of waiting for me in the Civil Affairs Bureau?' Lu Feng Xi thought and looked at them gloomily. They all were smiling as if nothing happened.

"Let's take some pictures together," Grandma Shen suggested and glanced at Secretary Tang, who was already standing with a DSLR camera in his hand.

They had a few pictures with Feng Xi, who forced a smile as her mother asked her to. However, by the end, she couldn't keep that smile anymore and a tear rolled down her cheek. Feng Xi quickly wiped it, seeing her parents being happy and smiling with Grandma Shen.

"It's time Feng Xi should say goodbye to her parents," Grandma Shen opined.

Feng Xi was then struck with the thought that she would be at a new house from now onward. She ended up embracing her mother tightly and began crying. Hearing her weeping, both her parents got worried. While her mother patted Feng Xi's back, her father patted her head.

Grandma Shen felt upset to see that sight. She felt her grandson should have stayed behind, but even she had no control over Shen Yu Han's actions. He had stopped listening to her long ago.

'I hope this marriage will change my grandson into a good person… a person which his grandfather wanted him to be,' Grandma Shen thought and saw Feng Xi wiping her cheeks.

"Feng Xi, we also live in Beijing, so whenever you miss them you can call your parents at our home and go to them anytime you want to," Grandma Shen softly told her.

Feng Xi looked at her with teary eyes and lightly nodded her head.

"Let's leave for your new home then," Grandma Shen said and placed her arm warmly around Feng Xi's shoulder before walking out with her. Her parents and the others also followed them out.

After Feng Xi settled in the backseat of another car, Grandma Shen turned to her parents. "I didn't expect Yun Xi would run away like this. If my husband were alive today, he would be devastated to see this. However, I'm happy that the marriage finally happened and the promise was fulfilled. Your daughter will always be happy in the Shen Family," she pronounced, assuring Feng Xi's parents not to worry about her.

"We have faith in the Shen Family," Lu Guangting said.

Grandma Shen hummed and got into the car at the front. Feng Xi looked at her parents through the window and waved at them as the car began to move away. Shortly, Feng Xi's parents' sight faded to her and she moved her head inside.
