3- Lingering Energy
The door knob was turned gently not to alert the zombies.
After turning the knob, Nathan opened the door slightly to see the situation of zombies.
The first thing he could see after opening the door was the dark hallway with extermemly dim lights. There weren't many zombies in the hallway facing the storage room, one at five meters distance and two at nine meters distance.
The soft sound of the doorknob turning didn't really alert the zombies so Nathan wasn't in the danger of being surrounded by three zombies.
He calculated the distance between him and the nearest zombie as well as the time it could take for him to get close to him to check if he could have enough time to kill the zombie before being noticed by the other two.
Nathan eyed the boost card in his system inventory but decided against it. It was only three zombies and with his Six Eyes, even if he was somehow unable to kill three of them, he was confident that he could get away.
So, he sneaked to the first zombie without making noise. He got into the proximity of 0.5 meter before the zombie noticed his smell and turned towards him. Nathan felt like if he could sneak to him at faster speed , the zombie wouldn't have enough time to sense or react to him so he could only sigh in disappointment.
With being discovered, the zombie growled and attempted to bite him. Nathan knew he had to kill it now if he didn't want the other two zombies to get alerted. So, he moved his hands and slashed his sword forward, aiming zombies head. Upon contact with the sword's blade and the head, the head was cut in half as if it was jelly, blood spluttered the wall and floors and the half of the head fell onto the floor with a thud.
The smell of blood and rotten flesh went straight to Nathan's noses and he felt a bit gross.
[Congratulations for successfully killing a low-level zombie. Exp + 10. First kill rewards had been received.]
Nathan heard the system but he decided to finish the other two zombies before looking at the rewards. He didn't want to get distracted in the midst of the battle.
It seems that at the "thud" sound, the other two zombies turned around. When they saw Nathan, a human, they rushed towards him. Nathan's eyes narrowed because he noticed the flow of energy as the zombies rushed to bite him. He actually saw similar thing when he faced the zombie earlier.
'I'll ask System later.'
He thought, then shifted his body a few inches to evade the zombie's bite just in time. At the same time, he slashed the other with his sword in hand, making a clean cut. After killing one, Nathan turned and put the blade into the last zombie's skull. Pieces of brain could be seen as Nathan pulled the sword out from the skull.
The zombie eventually fell and now there were three zombies on the floor. Only then, Nathan sighed in relief. He felt relieved that all his calculations were right.
"Six eyes is too awesome. I didn't have superior strength or good sword skills but the calculation in battle and the control of the sword was good. It even seemed like my hands were reinforced with some kind of energy because of how fast I could move."
"Wait...energy?"
Now that he thought about it, he indeed noticed there was some kind of energy and how it changed as the zombies moved. Is there any form of energy in this world ?
"Could it be that I also had some kind of energy in my body and used it?"
Nathan's eyes widened a bit as he actually found some weird energy in his body. Earlier, he was preoccupied with the matter of six eyes and mutation. He thought he was feeling the aftermath of getting Six Eyes but turned out it wasn't the case. He had some energy to use and Six Eyes helped him use without even trying.
Nathan broke into a smile.
Being able to utilize energy means his strength won't be limited to physical stats. The amount of energy and how it is utilized would play a huge factor as well. However, as a user of Six Eyes, Nathan knew he would be top-notch.
That said, Nathan was still curious how that energy came to be.
"System, is the energy I saw in those zombies..how did it come to be? Is it a result of mutating?"
[That is right, host. Along with mutation, everyone could produce a specific amount of energy. Depending on the amount of energy, one's ability to notice and control their energy would differ.]
"Then, does it mean that one won't even notice their energy if the amount was too low."
[Indeed.]
"Then, is my amount of energy low?"
[It is indeed. Do you want to see it in attribute panel?]
"Yes." Nathan managed to say with difficulty.

Nathan felt a bit dejected. No wonder he didn't notice the mutation and presence of energy prior to getting six eyes.

"10 random stats points?" Nathan's eyes lit up. That was what he wanted!

'I wonder if I will get more rewards if I kill more zombies.' He thought.

Nathan felt excitement burning in his body with the confirmation from the system.
