Chapter 20: Genetic Research

Transporting the device to Antarctica was quite simple since no one knew of their presence. They had sealed the temple again so that it would look untouched to an outside observer.

Back in Antarctica, once Pansy heard what that device could do, she asked, "Isn't this machine too amazing?"

"As amazing as it is, it's also very dangerous," Harry replied as he began to set up the genetic manipulation device in another cave they had carved out.

The Genetic Manipulation Device lets one directly manipulate, analyze, and modify the DNA, or, as Goa'uld call it, the Code of Life, of any living being standing on the platform. He continued to explain, "One wrong modification and the subject could die, become ill, in pain, or be disfigured. It allows one to literally customize living beings, but it has its limitations. And before we solve our problems, we need to find out how far we can go on ourselves."

"That makes sense," she understood. "Oh, that's why you kept Setesh. You want to modify our symbiotes."

"Exactly. This will be the first step for our future," Harry said with a warm smile.

Pansy smiled back. "I can't wait for it."

"I will work on it right away. In the meantime, you can go to London and begin buying necessities to move here. Like a kitchen, furniture, beds, and so on. You can also bring Kreacher here, so he can take care of menial tasks. And the library, ingredient cupboard, and any artifact you consider useful," Harry requested; this would be their new home for now. There was no need for them to live on transmuted furniture made of metal or stone if they could have perfectly fine furniture made by a professional.

"And how should I pay for it?" She asked, annoyed.

"Here," he said, throwing her the keys for the Potter and Black Vaults. "To be honest, their content doesn't have much value anymore. Clean them out and bring the rest of the gold here. My relationship with the goblins isn't too good. Once you are back, tell me how much they ripped you off." Harry said that based on their actions, he would decide how to handle the Goblin Nations.

The gold doesn't have much value for him besides its monetary value in purchasing simple materials. Whatever the goblins didn't steal from him would be enough to start off their first mining operation. And even if they took it all, he would be able to take over a small world and use the human slaves for simple mining. Even then, no one stealing from him would get away unpunished.

While Pansy flew off, basically on a shopping trip, Harry powered up the device and checked whether it was working perfectly. After confirming that it was working fine, he got the stasis jar from the other chamber.

Opening the jar, Setesh instantly leaped at him, trying to enter his body. But he already expected that; his enhanced reflexes are far too good for such a desperate attempt to have a chance of success.

"Ah, Setesh, lucky you. Not even 2 days imprisoned in Stasis. And now you will even serve a higher purpose. The advancement of our race is not a new race, one that will make the Goa'uld a small footnote in the history of the galaxy."Harry mocked before he paralyzed the symbiote with a Petrificus totalus.

To get a detailed reading on the DNA and body functions of the symbiote, he needed to be conscious. So keeping it awake while paralyzed was the best option. He placed it on the genetic manipulator and began to scan the symbiote.

The very first step to properly using this machine was to analyze and document every aspect of the subject's DNA. Right now, he was working through the data the control console was gathering and examining the Goa'uld.

There are around 3.2 billion DNA base pairs containing the information making up the human genome. This is also the limit of this machine's ability to modify the DNA of a living being. What it can do is manipulate and change this information; what it can't do is create new strings of DNA and add them to the human or wizard genome.

And since wizards were already very advanced, with the rest of his potential unlocked once he received the full knowledge of the Ancients, Besides a few illnesses, like his eyes, there wasn't much space for him to improve anymore.

But the Goa'uld were a completely different matter; their genome was three times larger than the one of the human race, which doesn't mean they evolved or ever would; after all, the genome of an onion was five times larger than the human one. And they were far from being perfect, especially since their lifespan was so long and they were virtually immortal with a viable host; they hadn't evolved much since leaving their home planet.

With them being a parasitic lifeform, they can act as an extension of the natural human potential. But this was only a nice side effect that interested him, like the symbiote's ability to enhance the host's body with strength, speed, health, and so on.

No, the most fascinating aspect of the Goa'uld was their genetic memory. Not to pass on his full knowledge, of course, but with the right manipulation of the genetics, he could control the knowledge to pass on and instill a set of powerful indoctrinations into them, instilling loyalty to him in his descendants.

Of course, this was just one of his ideas, based on what the Goa'uld already had. With so much unexploited potential in their genome, there was quite a bit of space for traits that were beneficial for his future empire.

The work he was doing here right now will determine the foundations, the hierarchy, and his control over that empire. So, of course, he will put a lot of effort and care into it. The empire he had in mind was one under his complete control, dedicated to discovering the secrets of science and magic. An empire that would become an eternal powerhouse, being able to contend with the most powerful foes. One that would leave a permanent mark in the history of the universe, even surpassing the ancients.

Once he had mapped out the full Goa'uld genome, it was time for the second phase of research. Determining which are the racial traits and the personal mutations determining looks, illnesses, and similar

That was only possible through experimentation on a living symbiote. And it was nice that he had such a nice volunteer. It would take hours, if not days, to finish this step. But the result would be worthwhile.

Hours later, Pansy returned with the new furniture and everything he requested from her, and he ordered Kreacher to begin the setup of a new living area for them. In the meantime, Harry was continuing his experimentation with Setesh. Working through every piece of the genome, until that step was finished, it could still take hours, if not days.

Pansy took great pleasure in watching Setesh suffer from the experiments he was performing on him; she was more influenced by Isis than Harry by Osiris.
