Chapter 13: Potentia

"Shouldn't we install some of the drones and the shield generator on our ship?" Pansy asked as they traveled through hyperspace. "We could stop on some planet close by and do the necessary modifications."

"No, we would need to use the potentia on this ship to have enough power for the shield. It has less than 3 percent power left, which is enough to power the outpost for a while and use its weapon platform a few times or something else. I prefer to save it. Of course, we could install some drones on the ship; there could only fit around 14 to 18 drones onto the ship either way, which is only enough to destroy one or two Ha'taks in a one-on-one battle. With their gliders around, we could still destroy them but would die ourselves," Harry reasoned.

"So what is the point of taking all the ancient technology with us if we do not have enough power to use it?" Pansy asked.

"For now. Although the Potentia on Praclarush was the only one I knew for sure was there, there is still a good chance that we will find other ones at some locations. We will need to use other forms of power generation until we have the infrastructure to produce potentia ourselves. This could take a while. Potentia is one of the peak technologies of ancient civilization. They were working on more advanced power generation technologies, but they ascended before that."

The Potentia was developed millions of years ago and was the most powerful power source known to all the civilizations in the Milky Way Galaxy and the surrounding ones. A more advanced technology would take years of research, even with the base work the Ancients already did for him.

Creating new potentia isn't an easy matter. In simple terms, it's an artificial pocket universe in a bottle, from which zero-point energy gets extracted until maximal entropy is reached, making the potentia depleted since at that point the pocket has collapsed.

In order to create a potentia or even a subspace pocket, very specific conditions had to be fulfilled. The process is very sensitive; not only does it require large amounts of energy, although the return was even bigger, it could also only be done on very specific planets that are very rare and additionally requires very complex facilities with sensitive equipment.

If one of these conditions isn't fulfilled properly, it will have dire consequences, like the destruction of a solar system, to name a few. Unfortunately, he didn't know the location of such a planet; his last update on the status of the Milky Way or Pegasus Galaxy was ten thousand years ago. Most of his knowledge about planets was even older.

Planets change with time, especially for a long time, so he would have to search for a fitting planet first. And, of course, acquire the capabilities to build the necessary facility. Which he didn't have right now.

Fortunately, there are other power generation technologies that are coming close to the level of Potentia. For example, the neutrino-ion generator of the Asgard has about a fourth of the power generation capabilities of a Potentia but is more durable and easier to produce. The only drawback is that neutronium, a rare mineral, is required. Another option is an optimized Naquadariah Generator, which could reach about one-tenth of the capabilities of a Potentia. However, it requires Naquadriah, which is rare but not as scarce as neutronium. A perfectly optimized Naquadah-powered generator could still reach about one-fiftieth of the capabilities of a Potentia but tends to be quite bulky.

Of course, there are many approaches to power generation, many not explored by the Ancients yet, not as far developed as these, or not able to reach the level of the previously mentioned. Like the cold-fusion core powering the stargates, it is a very long-lasting piece of technology that works for interstellar stargate connections but is a far cry from a potentia or even a perfect Naquadah generator.

"You know best, beloved. We are only a few minutes away from Earth. Is everything ready for when we are there?" Pansy asked as she confirmed their position on the HUD of the ship.

"Yes, the energy drill is working and installed on the Ring Transporter. The Naquadah Generator is upgraded and produces enough power to maintain the ship's systems, including the Cloak and the Energy Drill at the same time," Harry nodded. He had modified the ship systems before they even left for Praclarush. He was all ready to enter Terra Atlantus and make it their outpost.

"Okay, did you add the coordinates in Antarctica to the computer?" She asked once the ship left Hyperspace above Earth, turning towards the Southern Pole of the planet while activating the Cloak, to not be noticed by any satellites monitoring the airspace and surrounding space of Earth. Although it was highly unlikely that any satellite could detect such a small space vessel, From what he could detect, Earth's technological level wasn't advanced enough yet, but he didn't want to risk it. After all, someone was using a Stargate on Earth.

"I added them to the computer. Here they are," Harry said, inputting something into the control console of the ship. "We need to be exactly above it. Tell me when we are there."

"I will," Pansy nodded as she maneuvered the ship towards the exact position, while Harry moved to the Ring Transporter in the cargo bay.

"We are there!" She shouted to the back, "You can begin!"

Harry inputted the code for the Energy Drill into the Ring Transporter control console, and the ship's generator powered up. A massive, bright beam drilled into the thick ice of Antarctica, slowly melting the ice above the outpost.

Terra Atlantus has a Ring Transporter, but the ice is far too thick for the Transporter of the ship to connect to the ones in the Ancient Outpost. That's why Harry needed the energy drill to thin the ice and drill a connection all the way down to the outpost itself.

After that, he would use magic to place wards on the entrance to conceal it from the non-magicals while he could visit it whenever he needed to. While magicians were unlikely to travel to Antarctica, they would be able to see it. The only alternative he knew was a Fidelius; unfortunately, the Outpost was too big. But, of course, he wouldn't just leave the safety of his first base to chance. As soon as he could, he would install new safety measures and conceal the entrance with technology.

It took only a few minutes for his drill to create a tunnel all the way to the outpost below the ice. "Pansy, it's ready. Leave the ship hovering above the outpost. We can use the rings to travel down."

"Okay, I am coming," she said as Pansy joined him in the cargo bay.

She stood beside him on the Ring Transporter platform. Harry looked at her. "Ready to visit the last remains of our ancestors on their old homeworld?"

"I am. Let's go." Pansy nodded back at him, and Harry used the Hand device to activate the Ring Transporter, turning them into energy.
