One truth unveiled

Lexus was stunned by his mother's sudden hospitality. She had never treated any of his exes this kindly, not to talk about hugging them or telling them her name. Regina was the first."Wow, you don't like the girls I like but you like the girls I don't like"Lexus thought.

Obviously it was because Regina was not like any of his exes. His exes were materialistic, fake, full of themselves, a few were obnoxious and the others pretentious. That's why he never loved any of them. He just dated them for their bodies.

"Hey!why are you so quiet all of a sudden"His mother asked as she took a seat in the living room.

"Sorry, mum"he said as he sat close to Regina. His mother just looked at them and smiled."What's up with that smile? it's strange"he thought.

"So, what's your second name, Regina?"his mother asked. He knew he recognized that smile, his mother's 'interview smile'. She interviewed any girl she saw with her son.

Like being with him was a job. Regina was on the point to answer her question when Lexus spoke.

"Grey, she's my wife"Lexus said immediately. His mother glared at him.

"I didn't know she's your wife. I don't remember naming you Regina, Lex",his mother retorted.

"Sorry Madame, my name is Quinn but I'm a Grey now"Regina said politely. Lexus couldn't get why Regina was always so polite. His mother had asked her to call her Bella but she still insisted on calling her Madame. He felt like shoving the excess respect she had oit of her but he couldn't. Sometimes it was really annoying.

"Quinn?it looks familiar. I'm not supposed to be talking to you with out Alex but you are really intriguing. So--" she is cut short by the creaking open of a door. "Talking about the wolf, there he is"she announced.

It was Lexus' father. A huge muscular figure. He was 47 but still looked young and unnervingly good looking though his black hair was riddled with grey strands. He had dark purple eyes and a few similar facial features as Lexus. He had a cold, authoritative look and smiled very little. Clad in his purple tuxedo, he looked even more intimidating.

Lexus knew that face well, a little too well. His kind and loving father who had once tried to give him away to an orphanage. What an unusual sign of love. He had to prove to his father how he loved him too.

He stood like everyone else and walked to him.

"Good day, Father"he bowed slightly expressing his respect. "It's been a while"he added. The man just stared at him with indifference.

"Good day.....son",he said bitterly. He walked past Lexus to his wife."Good day, sorry for keeping you waiting"he said before taking a seat. Lexus sighed and went back to his seat. His father always did that, treating others better than him.

"Greetings sir, I'm Regina Grey, Lexus' wife"Regina said as she bowed as she spoke. Lexus' father did not pay much attention to her, all he did was nod and gesture for her to regain her seat. Lexus' mother glared at his father and he gave her a bitter look.

"Nice to meet you. Have a seat dear" he said. Lexus had to bite his lower lip in order to hold back his laughter. It seemed like his mother had been the one giving his father politeness lessons. He looked so awkward.

"Nice to meet you sir"Regina said. The interview was a little slow and boring this time. He didn't have much to say, as usual, he'd just sit and shut up when his mother started but this time his mother didn't say much.

"Where were you born?"his mother asked. Finally it had started.

"Here in town Y"Regina answered quickly.

"Which high school did you attend?" she asked faster this time.

"Gold leaf"Regina answered. His mother was taking a pleasure asking Regina questions about herself.

15 minutes of interviewing later,

"What do your parents do for a living?"his mother asked. Regina's face darkened.

"They--"Regina started but was cut short as Lexus' father spoke.

"Bella!we talked about this. You'll have all your time to get to know each other some other time"he said in a solemn tone. Lexus' mother chuckled.

"Let's have lunch then"she said in a gleeful tone. She smiled at Lexus and Regina before leaving. Lexus was stunned, things seemed to have changed a lot around here. He found it very strange but better than before.

"You got married and you didn't inform us. Don't you consider us as family anymore?"Lexus' father asked coldly. He had once been scared of his father, he'd shiver in his presence. His father's presence always felt like millions of ice cubes had been dropped on his shoulder with great force, it made him want to run away.

"I was busy, father"Lexus answered in a tone void of emotions. His mother taught him never to show his emotions when it came to his father, she told him it made him look weak. That was his most valuable lesson.

"Busy taking care of your worthless territory? don't forget you're not the Mafia boss yet. I doubt you'll ever be anyway"he smiled coldly as he said. Lexus was used to this. His father never considered him like one of his successors, he acted like he had just forgotten Lexus was part of the race too.

His father's words wouldn't have meant anything to him if Regina wasn't there. Regina heard him say he wasn't the boss and that he might never be. He knew he'd be soon enough but Regina's esteem for him had dropped, that wasn't how he wanted her to find out.

He turned to her but she didn't seem to be paying attention to them, her face was still dark like her mood. She kept her head low, for once, he was really worried. He took her hand and squeezed it gently. Regina turned red immediately, she looked at home, surprise obvious on her face.

"Are you okay?"he asked forcing a really concerned tone.

"I-I'm o-okay"she stuttered and smiled. She didn't look okay but she didn't want to talk. Lexus brushed it off,"I won't force her to talk"he thought though he still didn't let go of her hand.

His father had been looking at him in disgust, he only stopped when his wife walked into the room.

"Follow me, lunch is ready."She said before turning around to leave. They all follow her into the dining room.
