Jared’s paws pounded heavily on the ground as we ran through the woods. Now that it was just the two of us, it was much faster to travel this way, with Jared in wolf form and me on his back.
I tangled my fingers in his silky, soft fur, holding on tightly.
His weight shifted with each loping stride and with the heavy backpack on my back, I thought I’d slip off his back from being jostled back and forth.
I kept a spare pair of clothes for him in the backpack, along with our weapons and what limited supplies we had left.
After we’d agreed to spend some time enjoying each other instead of worrying about the curse, Jared said we needed to go somewhere special, but he hadn’t told me where he was taking me that was so special.
The forest melted away until we were running through an open field. There was a cliff drop-off to our left. A fresh, salty scent filled the air and the roar of ocean waves far below crashed against the rocks.
