Alex is now in Mel's coffee-scented room, following the woman's instructions to lead him to the police station because if he quarrels or throws an excuse Mel will be more suspicious and that's understandable because this woman is the famous head detective of Unit-8, she has sensitive intuition and thoroughness in analyzing cases.
"Alexander Vernon is that your name right?" Mel asked Lex, who sat facing her by leaning his body against the back of the chair and staring closely at Mel.
"That's right, ma'am," replied Lex with a relaxed nod of his head. He shouldn't look nervous, it could be dangerous.
"Living in Orchid St. building B apartment 409 Welheim district, Vellas City, correct?" Mel said later.
"Yes, that's right" replied the man showing his approval.
"That means you live in the area around where the victim's body was found?" Investigate Mel with an expressionless face that makes it difficult for Lex to know what the grille to Mel's question is after this.
"Yes, as it is written there. I've lived there for about 20 years, do you suspect me as the culprit?" Said Lex, impatient to guess.
"Hmmh ... I will not be circumspect, you are indeed suspicious with a mask that you don't want to take off even though the police have asked for it, and I'm sorry that I have to repeat it, please take off your mask so I can identify that this is indeed your ID Card," Mel said firmly and carefully.
"Hahahah ... I'm not the culprit, I don't even know who was died there, I left because I wanted to go to Wellmart to shop for my needs," he explained deliberately looking relaxed.
"Still Mr. Vernon, please take off your mask first." Mel remained steadfast, this is what she has to do to avoid being missed, all possibilities must be explored, that's the instinct of a detective.
"Ekhem ... khem ... you know, I can't do it" Lex on the other hand wouldn't want to do what Mel said because if he took off his mask you could be sure he would vomit instantly. This police station looked thick from the moment Lex entered it, and Lex guessed that the color came from the corrupt cops in here.
Mel blinked in disbelief at the words of the man in front of her, he still refused even though he was cornered, provoking Mel's curiosity that had started to developing little by little and was now ready to explode.
"What is the real reason you can't do it, Mr. Vernon?" Asked Mel impatiently, as if she wanted to forcibly remove the mask right now. She wanted to know what this man was hiding behind the black mask, was he disabled? Is he ugly? Does he have burns there? She has no idea.
"Haaah ... Okay I will tell you the truth, that I have a serious illness if I take off this mask, you will be infected, ma'am."
This woman is stubborn to make Lex have a hard time dodging again and finally telling the strange lie then the result is a frown on Mel's forehead which is getting bigger because of her doubts too.
What kind of disease is that, if just by looking at it you can be infected by this person, so this person should have been in the hospital isolation room so as not to endanger others and cause an outbreak. that's clearly a lie.
"I have a rare disease" added Lex began to lose his creativity to make up his lies, the sharp gaze of the woman in front of him broke his brain to work as if frozen instantly. Lex is freaking out!
"You're really not going, to tell the truth? I could have thrown you in jail right now for obstructing the investigation." Mel's expression on a stern face was deliberately emitted when she said it.
Lex shuddered in horror at the thought of being in prison, not because he would meet criminals who had committed various crimes, but because he could already imagine how he would have difficulty controlling himself because of the smell and dark color that enveloped the prison. It's Crazy! he won't be able to do it.
Shit!
"Okay .. Okay ... I'll tell you the truth ma'am". He decided to give up.
"Alright then," Mel said as she leaned back on the chair because all this time, she had been leaning forward unconsciously as a form of intense threat to Lex.
"I ... Eem ..... I ... Haaah .... How do I put it ..... I can smell someone's lies and emotions, also can see the color" said Lex a little difficulty because in his life he had never said this to anyone except his mother.
Mel raised an eyebrow, feeling cheated. Earlier he said he had a strange, rare disease, and now he's saying even stranger things, smelling lies? See someone's emotional color? Hah! Seriously! Is this person insane?
"Hahaha .... You really want to be like this?" Mel laughed dryly, starting to feel infuriated by the young man in front of her.
Lex saw a reddish tinge between the white flames on Mel's back, the color of her emotions changed, and there was a sign that the woman was angry. This is no good, Lex doesn't want to go to jail.
"Are you mad?" Lex asked innocently.
"According to you?" Mel replied curtly.
"Well ... I see, but ... I really told you the truth, Ma'am. I know you won't believe it just like that, but that's the truth, I didn't make it up." Lex explained frustrated, he did not know what else to say to convince this woman.
"Alright .. Prove your words!" Snapped Mel.
"How to?"
"How do I know? You said that nonsense". Mel replied annoyed.
Knock knock knock
The door of Mel's room was knocked on by someone and managed to divert their attention to that rectangular object made of black glass.
"Yes come in" Mel replied from the room.
A young woman who is a forensic assistant and is in charge of recording reports from the evidence identification unit opens the glass door to the room while submitting a file to Mel and giving a brief report regarding 3 bodies of bodies that have been found in the past 3 weeks.
Mel flipped through the file and then frowned because she found invalid data that had been reported yesterday by Dany, one of her subordinates, and as far as Mel recalls, she had said not to include it yet considering the uncertain validity.
"Why is this thing here? As far as I remember I told you not to record it as evidence because it is invalid" Mel said while showing what she meant in the file to the young woman beside her.
Rachel, the woman's name, looked a bit gasped when she read what Mel was pointing to, then hurriedly explained that she was careless because she didn't focus on doing it, then apologized to her boss.
"My mistake Captain, I was careless. My mother is sick and it makes me not focus, I'll fix it again." She said with a face of regret.
"Do it right away, I need it as soon as possible" said Mel.
"Yes, Captain O'Connor, excuse me," Rachel replied with a sure nod and rushed out of the room.
"She's lying," Lex spoke as he looked towards the entrance of the room after Rachel came out of there.
"What?" Mel didn't understand what the boy meant.
"That woman, she lied," said Lex clarified as he turned his eyes from the door to Mel who looked at him in confusion.
"I don't think she didn't focus because her mother was sick, she just broke up with her boyfriend, I usually see that color in people who are heartbroken because of a breakup," Lex explained which resulted in Mel's intense gaze on him.
"Interesting ... You can talk like that about a member of the police when you are threatened with going to jail." A cynical smile crossed Mel's face.
"Hey ... Hey ... Hey ... I said that because you asked for proof ...," said Lex
"Okay .. Then what happens when you take off your mask?" Asked Mel no longer uses polite calls to Lex.
"I could just throw up here because of the smell of bad human emotions, for example, lies, and usually the smell of lies is the most disgusting, you can't imagine it". Lex replies to match Mel's choice of speaking style.
"How can I believe your ridiculous story?" Annoyed Mel while massaging her temples while closing her eyes, this is tiring. The case had yet to come to light and now she had to listen to weirdo rambling on him.
"But I'm not lying," Lex tried to reassure her, but it didn't seem like it worked because after a moment Mel stood up and walked to the doorway and opened it.
"Go home, I'm already quite dizzy and I don't want to go crazy because of you, I will confiscate your ID just in case so don't try to run away".
"Okay, please don't look for me anymore, I hate dealing with cops." Said Lex then stood up and walked over to Mel in the doorway of his room.
"It depends on the evidence we get later" Mel challenged, looking up at Lex's face who was taller than her.
"You won't get any evidence that I was involved in the murder, because I wasn't the culprit, nor do you tell anyone what I told you today."
It will be dangerous for him if many people find out about his abilities, Lex doesn't want to leave Vellas to run away because the memories with his mother here are very meaningful.
"We'll see," Mel said confidently.
Lex did not respond and chose to leave the coffee-smelling room with Mel's eyes still following and staring at Lex's back as he walked away from her.
Mel decided to go back into the room after the boy was no longer visible in her sight.
"Hhuuuufffhh ..."
Mel slammed her body into a work chair behind a messy table, the 3rd body has been found and also has marks similar to the 2 previous victims. This is definitely serial murder.
The perpetrator was very confident and meticulous, not a trace of it there, on the victim's body or on the crime scene that had been combed repeatedly.
Three victims in the last three weeks, it is clear that the perpetrator is very productive. But what motive hasn't seemed at all is like trying to see the pebbles on a dark night without a light.
Mel rubbed her face roughly, she hasn't been home in 3 days, struggling with cases that make her have to eat, sleep, and bathe in the office. Fortunately, there are several pairs of clothes hanging in the wardrobe in the corner of the room, a place that is usually used to store coats or jackets.
As if remembering something, Mel then hurriedly left the room with Lex's ID and walked quickly to the Cyber team room.
