Chapter 14, Elementals Fury 2

(Elementals Fury 2) Reskeme.

Reskeme chuckled to himself and smiled innocently up at the noble. As the tall young man glared over the rows of uncomfortable wooden chairs.

" What are you laughing at, commoner?" asked the noble, rising from his seat.

" Nothing my lord, she is laughing at a joke I told her." said Micheal responding before Reskeme could.

" But that's a lie. She was laughing because that guy is stupid." said Alex, cocking his head.

" Hush Alex, it is not the right time." said Reskeme, sweat trickling down his neck. No telling how a noble might respond if they were insulted.

" What did you just say, commoner? I could have you whipped in the streets for your insolence." said the tall young man.

" Calm down, Stan, its just a child." said a shorter man, gesturing the man to take a seat.

" Sorry Ethan, all of this waiting is driving my patients. How dare they treat a noble of my status like these commoners?" said Stan, emphasising the word commoner disdainfully.

Reskeme grit his teeth, forcing himself not to say something he might regret. All he could think about was the thought of another peacock trying to take his head. Reskeme sighed and sat back in the wooden chair to wait. He waited patiently, trying to find a comfortable spot on the chair. First, he sat up strait. After another minute, he put his foot up on his knee. Leaning forwards Reskeme put his elbows on his knees. One row ahead of him Micheal kept glancing from him to the front of the room, clearly wanting to ask something.

" Well, you cannot just tell me you have the magic I have been looking for and then go silent?" said Micheal the words bursting from his mouth.

" What more is there to say?" asked Reskeme.

" There is a lot. Would you be willing to work with me to make armour and maybe weapons?" asked Micheal.

" What would I get from helping you?" asked Reskeme, trying to hide his interest.

" We would be partners, I make the armour or weapon and we use our magic together to add the runes." said Micheal.

" I dont know how to make permanent runes, all of my runes I create with my mana burn and break whatever I use them on." said Reskeme.

" Oh, you are one of those kinds of mages." said Micheal scowling in disgust.

"What do you mean? I have never heard of another way to use the runes." asked Reskeme, confused. The only thing he could think of was his illusion amulet, but that was created using the same runes, right?

" The kind of runes you are talking about are battle runes. They shouldn't be used on armour or your weapon! Anyone who says otherwise, should be taken outback and whipped for desecrating the armour." said Micheal Emphatically.

" And what does a runesmith do?" asked Reskeme.

" A runesmith, combines the magic with the armour to create something new. It is weaving magic and armour to make each stronger. Not forcing your magic onto the armour." said Micheal emphasising each word by waving his hands.

" I used some fire on a spear. It got charred, but it still worked a few more times." said Reskeme. The door at the end opened and the same official poked his head in.

" Would the applicant with the placard number two please come forward?" asked the official. The woman in the dark brown robe stood. Her light brown hair was tied in a bun behind her head, swaying gently as she saunter after the official.

Reskeme turned back to Micheal, who was staring at him like he had spit in his face.

"What?" asked Reskeme, reaching up and wiping at his face.

" you used a battle rune on your spear?" asked Micheal.

" Yess, is that a problem?" asked Reskeme.

" How much longer I'm tired." said Alex.

" I'm not sure Alex, just wait a bit longer after we will get some fresh bread."

"No.. of course not." said Micheal kindly, miming strangling something with his hands.

" Whatever! Know that you know you do not make the same mistake." said Micheal palming his face.

" If you have a full set of armour from a rune smith, you could survive a direct attack from battle runes," said Micheal.

" Are you sure? I have seen a four layered rune kill almost half a dozen soldiers." said Reskeme.

" Yes, I'm sure. Here in Pentir our rune smiths are far above all the other kingdoms." said Micheal puffing out his chest.

" How can I get a full set of this rune armour?" asked Reskeme, perking up.

" Well, you would first need to find a smith and get them to make you armour out of the right metal. Then you would need to match the runes to your mana type. After that there come the problem of paying for it." said Micheal, laughing scratching the side of his head.

" Soo, that is why I have never seen someone with rune armour? No one can afford a full set of it!" said Reskeme blanching.

" That is not true. Something well known is the king owns a full set of runed plate." said Micheal.

" That is much too advanced for beginners like us. If you truly have soul magic and fire, we can make some weapons that will cut through regular steel like its not there." said Micheal excitedly.

From the far door the official poked his head in eying Micheal. The official waved Micheal over. The young man ran over, receiving glares from the remaining nobles still waiting. Reskeme winced. That was going to be a pain. Micheal gestured wildly, grinning as he gestured to Reskeme. The stern faced official actually smiles at Micheal before gesturing Reskeme forward.

Reskeme swallowed. The eyes of both the remaining nobles followed him as he crossed the room to stop next to Micheal.

" Is it true, do you have soul magic and fire magic? If you are lying, I will personally throw you from the guildhall." said The Official.

" Yes, I also have illusion too magic if it helps." said Reskeme smiling. The official's jaw dropped, but he schooled his expression.

" That is simply a preposterous claim. I could believe you have two soul magics. But elemental and soul magic in one person is extremely rare." said The Official his face blank in disbelief.

" You can check if you do not believe me." said Reskeme calmly. His show of confidants must have worked because the official waved him into the room with him.

" The two kids are in my charge. I do not want to let them from my site at least for now." said Reskeme.

" Very well, they can come two. Come Micheal, you will want to be present." said the official once again smiling at Micheal happily.

" Thank you, I hope so." said Micheal as they left the red-faced nobles on the uncomfortable wooden chairs.

" Why do you have such crappy chairs?" asked Rory. The official laughed as they walked down a hall, passing many doors along the way.

" That young one, is a test. We do not want new people in the guild who do not have any patients." said The Official.

" Well, I did not like them. There was nothing to do while i waited." said Alex.

The official held up a hand and knocked on a door helpfully labeled 'Magic testing.' Reskeme found he rather liked this system of labeling all the doors. It would make it far easier to find what he needed to steal.

" Enter!" shouted a deep voice.

Reskeme led Rory and Alex into the room. He paused, unsure what to do? A short bald man sat in a plush chair, arms behind his head and beard in a mess.

" I have a new person to check." said The Official gesturing towards Reskeme.

" Well, what are you waiting for step forward? Do not worry, I don't bite." said the bald man chuckling. The short man pulled out a circle the size of his head from under his chair like it was just a piece of trash and held it in front of him. On the circle were eight separate markings, one less than the nine Reskeme had seen before.

"Why is there only eight?" asked Reskeme.

"Oh, you have seen one of these before?" asked the man.

"Yes, and it had nine marks, not eight." replied Reskeme.

" Well, that is because some rune smiths like to play a joke. They add the ninth mark for fun. Destiny magic is all a myth. We are here in Pentir take our tests seriously and dislike to waste time with useless tests. I cannot say the same for those superstitious Laurentian's. I hear all of their amulets for testing have this ninth mark. I dont know why, no one has ever found a damned destiny mage." grumbled the man.

Reskeme shrugged to himself and placed his hands on the head-sized disc of metal. He channels mana like Kellar had taught him. Three runes lit up, brightening the disc. One green, one white and one purple.

" Very interesting, Life, Soul and illusion magic. Two soul magics is not unheard of, but I can count on one hand the amount of times I have seen soul magic and elemental magic in one person." said the bald man grumbling to no one in particular.

" Soo, he has it?" asked Micheal, bouncing on his toes.

" Yes, he has it." said the bald man grumbling as he pulled out two pieces of paper from under his chair and wrote on them. Reskeme leaned over, trying to catch a look under the chair, but wasn't quite able to see anything. What else did the man have hidden?

" Yes!" shouted Micheal hugging Reskeme and lifting him off the ground unexpectedly. Reskeme coughed uncomfortably at the show of excitement. Micheal let go, grinning sheepishly as he backed from Reskeme.

" Sorry, I get like that when I'm exited." said Micheal. Rory and Alex laughed, grinning up at Micheal.

" lift me up to, I want you to spin me around." said Alex, laughing exited.

" No fair, I want to try." said Rory, turning to Reskeme, pouting.
