Chapter 29

I walked into his study to look for the red file he told me to get for him. Come to think of it, he didn't tell me where I he had placed it, and his study was big, so it could be anywhere. I knew that the possible places would be oh his desk or inside one of the drawers of the cabinet. I walked to his desk and I looked for it on the messy desk. There were files and papers all over the desk.

I looked for it on the desk for a little while and it was not there so I decided to look in the cabinet. I opened the drawer that was at the bottom and there were a bunch of files which had dates and some numbers on them. I searched throng those files and I didn't find single red file, those files were of different colours but non of them were red. "Argh come on." I said in frustration. I closed the drawer and I opened the next one, I searched through it and well yes I found no red file. I was starting to lose patience, I exhaled deeply trying hard not to kick this cabinet because it was frustrating me. I closed the drawer and I opened the next one, and I found the red file, but the problem was that all the files that were in the drawer were all red, so which one was I supposed to pick. The only difference they had was the words that were on each of the files. They looked like names of projects or companies or something. I decided to take all the red files, he would know which one he wanted.

I walked out of the study with the five red files on my hands, I walked back to the dining hall and I found Maynard and lucius whispering something to each other. This guy's were being a bit creepy but well it was non of my business. "Here are all the red files that I found, I don't know which one it is that you want." I said putting the files on the dining table.

"Thank you." He said picking out a file that was written 'MCCAIN EMPIRE' and he opened it. I wanted to see what was written in it but I couldn't because it was written in some kind of weird language I couldn't understand, so I just gave up.

"Put the other files back in the cabinet." He said. Dude do I look like your maid.

"Maynard stop ordering her around since you guys just got married, you should be having fun right now." Lucius said with a smirk on his face. And I could tell that Maynard was only a few seconds away from punching him and knocking his teeth out.

"Are you still single?" Maynard asked lucius.

"Well... Yes." He said with a nervous laugh.

"I am not surprised." Maynard said and couldn't hold myself back from laughing a bit.

"Hey what are you laughing at?" Lucius asked

. "Nothing I'll go and put the other files back in the cabinet." I said taking the files and I left the two men alone.

As I was putting the files back curiosity hit me. I wanted to know what was inside this files. I looked at the door and it was closed and I heard no one coming. So Itook the file which was blank on the outside and as i was about to open the file I felt a hand on my shoulder and it was butler X. I stood up quickly, 'When did he enter' I mentally asked myself. "Here is some free advice, if you don't want to end up wishing you were never born then don't look into the young master's things without his permission." He said and he looked serious. I could literally feel my body shaking. He was right Maynard wasn't someone I could afford to anger, even though I am his wife does not mean that I am special because there is no love in this 'relationship' of ours. I nervously nodded my head and I put the files back into the cabinet I closed the drawer and I walked out of the study. What was I even thinking, looking through Maynard's stuff, but would he really make me wish that I was never born. Just how vicious can he be.

I walked downstairs and I saw Maynard and lucius seating in the living room. They seemed to be having a conversation, I wondered what they were talking about so I hid in the corner so that I could secretly listen to their conversation.

"Have you told her yet, or showed her?"Lucius asked Maynard.

"No it's not like I have to anyway." Maynard said.

"What if those two tell her, especially the old man, it won't be good if she hears it from someone else." Lucius said. I wondered Who and what were this two talking about.

"I said I won't tell her. If I married her out of love then I would have told her because I would be afraid of losing her, but Emma and are only under contractual marriage. Besides she means nothing to me, she someone I can toss away when I am bored with." He said.

And his words felt like I had been stabbed in my heart, but I wouldn't say that I am surprised because there is no way that a perfect man like him would ever fall in love with a sixteen year old nobody like me."That's tough man. So Maynard what if you fall in love with her in the future, what would you do?"

Lucius asked and I really wanted to here the answer to that question.

"How long are you going to secretly listen to our conversation Emma, get your ass here!" He shouted. Oh my gosh I was busted. I just hoped that he wouldn't punish me in any way. I emerged out of the corner I was standing and I walked to where they were seated. I saw lucius shaking his head and mouthing 'You are dead meat.' maybe I was dead meat. Who knows, but I hoped that I wasn't.
