Chapter 1: Witches & Dogs

When I hear the word witch, I would immediately imagine a wrinkly old woman whose seems to only wears clothes from Hot Topic. However, that's not exactly how everyone see them, but to each their own.

What I don't seem to understand, is why everyone around me seem to call me a witch to begin with.

I wear black clothes occasionally, but it's not like I wear only black. I'm not old, nor do I look old. I can't even remember how many times I've called a kid. It's not like I have a nasty personality either, as much I'm aware of.

So why? Why am I being called a witch?

"Sage~ Hello~ earth to Sage~" as I heard a familiar voice, I was dragged back to my reality for better or for worse.

"Huh?" I simply blurted as I turned my attention to a jock sitting next to me on the school's roof top.

"Sage? Are you okay? You seemed a bit out of touch lately. Something wrong?" said the jock, while staring at me with puppy eyes.

This guy is Roy Froster. To everyone, Roy is your typical American or Canadian jock stereotypes. He's incredibly athletic, loves all types of sports, does not take much interest in intellectual culture.

What makes Roy different though, comparing to the other jocks from the high school movies is that Roy really a genuinely sweet guy. He's kind towards everyone and he's dosen't try to act cool in front the other jocks or anyone in general.

Roy just stay as himself, and I admire that about him. Even though he's annoying most of the time, Roy makes it hard for anyone to say no.

"Sage? Are you ignoring me? Are you mad? Did I do something to upset you?" Roy whimpers.

"Huh? No. I'm not mad, I'm just tired." I spoke honestly.

"Tired..." Roy repeated before stared intently into my eyes.

This is why I am always truthful towards Roy. He may not be the smartest guy, but that doesn't change the fact he is a human Lie Detector.

"It was Mora again, wasn't it? I can tell because your trying to avoid eye contact with me." Roy said with a low yet stern tone of voice.

"It's no big deal, I swear. Mora just kept calling me witch all day... again." I said to Roy while pulling up a fake smile.

"Don't smile like that, you only looked like you've been hurt." Roy said bluntly as patted me on the shoulder.

I sigh softly, there was no escape. No surprise from Roy, the literal human Lie Detector.

"At least your nickname isn't anything like mine. Roy Froster! The obedient dog of the entire school..." Roy chuckled.

I smiled but I didn't respond to his joking around. It still felt nice through, having a friend to cheer you up.

I stretch my arm and ruffled Roy's thick curly locks. "Good boy."

"Stop that! I'm not a dog!" Roy pouted.

"No, you're not. But you are cute as one." I laughed.

Roy turned his face away from me before mumbling something underneath his breath.

"What's that? Did you say something?" I teased.

"No! Nothing! I said absolutely nothing!" Roy yelled with a red face.

What a good boy.
