The Battle Of Old Masters

Old Master Lin feigned offence, "flamboyant peacock? These robes are the epitome of fashion, unlike your outdated rags that seem to have survived three dynasties."

Old Master Ye waved dismissively, "Fashion is for the young. I prefer the classics. They never go out of style, unlike your attempts to stay relevant."

The banter continued, each old man trying to outdo the other with humorous insults and exaggerated boasts.

It is a familiar dance they'd perfected over years of friendship

The banter between Old Master Lin and Old Master Ye escalated quickly, fuelled by playful jabs that took a more aggressive turn. What started as friendly bickering turned into a heated exchange of words, each trying to outdo the other in a battle of wits.

"You call these classic robes? They look like moth-ridden relics from the Stone Age!" Old Master Lin retorted, his face contorted in mock disgust.

Old Master Ye shot back, "Well, at least I don't parade around like a peacock with colours that could blind a bat. Your fashion sense is an assault on the eyes!"

The onlookers, including servants and family members, watched in amazement as the banter turned into a full-blown verbal duel. The once tranquil courtyard now echoed with their aggressive voices.

"I'll have you know, my taste is impeccable, unlike your taste in friends," Old Master Lin jabbed, his tone cutting through the air.

Old Master Ye, not one to back down, responded, "Friends? You mean those sycophants who follow you like lost puppies?"

The playful barbs escalated like a runaway firework. Frustration simmered, and the "friendly" competition morphed into something altogether more physical.

With a yell that startled the resident sparrows, Old Master Lin lunged, his attempt at a playful shove sending a potted begonia crashing to the ground.

Old Master Ye, never one to back down (especially from a begonia-related insult), cackled and swiped at Lin's beard with his walking stick.

The once serene courtyard devolved into a scene of controlled chaos – two old men chasing each other around, scattering startled chickens and leaving a trail of upended flower pots in their wake.

Servants hurriedly cleared the path, creating a makeshift arena for the unexpected duel between the two elderly gentlemen. The family members, initially amused by the banter, now exchanged worried glances.

"Enough of your nonsense!" Old Master Ye bellowed as he lunged forward, attempting to tackle his friend.

Old Master Lin, surprisingly nimble for his age, dodged the attack and countered with a swift kick, sending Old Master Ye stumbling backward. 

The fancy garden wasn't so fancy anymore. The two old men were having a playful fight, like little kids! Their fancy clothes were messy, and they were tripping over flower pots, but they were both laughing. It looked silly, but it was clear they were still good friends.

Lin Kai and Ye Jiushang heard the commotion from a long distance and hurried over, only to see the most beautiful courtyard in the Ye residence to be completely destroyed by two childish old men.

They are still playing you chase me and I chase you game.

They couldn't watch it anymore and rushed forward to separate them but before they could lay their hands on the old men, they were thrown away.

Old men looked at them in contempt

Hmph…. Good for nothing fellows....

Lin Kai and Ye Jiushang looked at each other, is it necessary to look down upon them at this age? For God sake, they are grown up and have children grown taller than them.

The two Old Masters went in side the house, both of them looked energetic and when old master Ye was about to sit down on the chair, Old Master Lin stopped him.

He said, "Lets go to the study" and walked forward.

He walked as if he was walking to his own study but Old Master Ye did not mind at all and followed him.

Master Ye ordered servants to clean up the mess and ordered all the servants and guards to not get in to the house for a while.

He quickly took Ye Yuan and Lin Kai to his father's study.

The room was silent and three of them sat in chairs opposite the Old Masters.

Old Master Ye had long understood that there is something important to talk to him otherwise why would Lin Kai come to his residence. One has to know that this wargod is always stationed at Lin Army South Campus training soldiers.

Old Master Lin will usually come to Ye residence to piss him off, so he was not surprised to see him and did not expect anything serious to discuss.

But its different now, so he was waiting for three of them to come to study.

He explained everything to old master Ye excluding Chujiu, he never brought her up just like Lin Kai.

Old Master Ye did not react for a while, "that old bastard song is always cunning, petty and ambitious. Its not surprising that he could do this. But what is his motto?"

Old Master Lin nodded, "Yes, he is not a person worthy of friendship or any respect."

Old Master Ye glared at him and said, "Then why did you become relatives with the song family?"

Old Master Lin recalled what happened, "if not for that old song coming and begging me for several weeks, why would I accept this engagement?"

He did not say the most important reason why he accepted to the marriage.

Old Master Ye sighed and asked, "Now what are you going to do?"

Old Master Lin gave a careful thought, "I will have to ask that brat from my family, but I don't want to have anything to do with Song family. Even if that girl is innocent, she cannot enter our Lin family."

Old Master Ye nodded in understanding…

"Now song family should have found out that we found something fishy, they saw Lin Kai coming to our family right after the incident. And if there are spies in Lin family, they might have planted some in my family as well."
