Devon sensed that his life was on the verge of a significant change after today. The uncertainty was whether it would be a positive or negative transformation.
The secret he had desperately wanted to keep hidden from those he considered close had been uncovered by Kelvin. Although Kelvin appeared composed, Devon detected a hint of fear in his demeanor. It was as if Kelvin was carefully choosing his words to avoid causing offense.
Devon wasn't pleased with this situation. He realized that Kelvin might not be as open with him now that he had stumbled upon his secret.
"I should have been the one to confide in him. Maybe things wouldn't be so awkward," Devon thought, blaming himself for the revelation.
But perhaps he shouldn't blame himself entirely. He had tried to shield others from his problems, but it had all been in vain. Kelvin now knew his true nature.
At the moment, both of them were in Devon's room. Kelvin was engrossed in typing, occasionally stealing glances at the shadow wolf still standing beside Devon.
The shadow wolf wasn't motionless; its chest rose and fell rhythmically, as if it were breathing. Kelvin even felt warm breath coming from the wolf's nostrils.
"Alright, I'm done... This is probably what your system interface looks like," Kelvin said as he stretched.
On his laptop, there was a profile resembling what Devon would see in his system messages:
[Name: Devon Matt
Age: 16
Race: Werewolf
Class: Unknown
Title: Shadow
Level: 3
HP: 100
Exp: 250/800
Energy: 75
Strength: 10
Dexterity: 10
Endurance: 9
Stat points: 2]
"You've really leveled up. Level three, impressive progress," Kelvin remarked.
Kelvin wanted to inquire about how Devon had achieved such high levels and stats, but he refrained from probing too deeply, considering the presence of the shadow wolf. He didn't want to make Devon uncomfortable, even though he trusted that Devon wouldn't harm him. There was always that lingering doubt.
With this in mind, Kelvin decided to steer the conversation away from personal matters and focused on the system.
"Name, age, and race are self-explanatory. What baffles me is your class," Kelvin commented.
"I thought you were an Omega werewolf," Kelvin began.
"Omega... What does that mean?" Devon inquired.
"It seems you haven't done much research on werewolves. No worries, I'll explain," Kelvin said.
"There are three hierarchical classes among werewolves—Alphas, Betas, and Omegas," Kelvin elucidated.
"Alpha werewolves have red glowing eyes and lead their packs, making them the strongest and largest," Kelvin explained.
"Betas have blue glowing eyes and follow the Alpha's commands," Kelvin continued.
"Then there are Omegas. They have yellow glowing eyes, like you, and are usually lone wolves without a pack. They're often considered the weakest," Kelvin stated, glancing at the shadow wolf.
"Not all Omegas are weak, though. Some became Omegas because they defied their Alpha and got kicked out of the pack," Kelvin added, as if appealing to someone.
"So, I'm an Omega werewolf?" Devon asked. "But why is my class listed as unknown?" he wondered.
"That's the mystery. I don't understand it either. Either there's more to it than we know, or our definition of werewolf classes is off," Kelvin said.
Feeling stuck, Kelvin decided to skip the class part and move on to the next item.
"Shadow... Is it related to your summoning power?" Kelvin inquired.
"Yes, the system provided a brief explanation of the 'Shadow' title. It allows me to summon the shadow wolf," Devon explained.
With that clarified, they moved on to the next item, his level. They skipped it and landed on his HP.
"This is your health points, and you can't increase this percentage, right?" Kelvin asked.
"Correct," Devon replied.
Back when Devon had first encountered the system, he hadn't taken it seriously until strange events unfolded. Now, with Kelvin's expertise, he felt more confident in understanding the system's functions.
"I agree with the system. Instead of increasing the quantity, you should focus on increasing the capacity," Kelvin advised.
"Having higher health capacity means that an attack that could deplete five HP might only take one or even none," Kelvin elaborated.
The challenge was how Devon planned to increase his HP capacity.
"We'll figure that out soon," Kelvin assured, turning back to his computer.
"Next, we have your energy," Kelvin said.
"It's used for summoning the shadow wolf, activating skills, and healing wounds," Devon explained. "Currently, I can only summon one shadow wolf," he added.
"Do you know how to increase it?" Kelvin inquired.
Devon hesitated. He recalled the method to boost his energy but was reluctant to reveal it to Kelvin.
"Remember, you can't afford to hide anything. It might lead to problems," Kelvin cautioned, sensing Devon's hesitation.
"I have to kill humans, beasts, or anything by myself and feed on them," Devon finally confessed.
Kelvin now understood why Devon had been hesitant to share this. It wasn't information that anyone could easily digest.
"Life can be so unfair," Kelvin thought, his sympathy evident. An awkward silence filled the room, broken by Kelvin moving on to the next item on the list.
"Now, your stats... These are crucial because they affect everything else," Kelvin explained.
"Strength mainly concerns muscle health and lifting capacity. The lighter the weight you can lift, the stronger your body becomes," Kelvin clarified.
Devon knew this, but hearing it from Kelvin reassured him that he was on the right track.
"Dexterity is a bit confusing, but it's related to agility and speed, which are important in combat. It might also enhance your hand and leg speed," Kelvin noted.
Devon remained silent, taking in the information.
"Then there's endurance," Kelvin continued. "You left it as your lowest stat, which might be a mistake. Endurance has several benefits, including higher health capacity and better control over your bloodlust."
Devon had suspected that endurance had such effects. The issue was that the system had been directly allocating stat points, rather than letting him choose where to invest them.
"Now you have a better understanding of your system. If you ever need an upgrade, don't hesitate to ask me," Kelvin said with a smile.
Devon checked the time and realized it was getting late. "Thank you so much for helping me understand this, and I promise not to misuse my powers," Devon expressed his gratitude and reassurance to Kelvin.
Kelvin looked at Devon with a sigh, clearly harboring something more to say.
"I have another piece of information, Devon. The events in this city have drawn significant attention, and various organizations are coming here in search of you," Kelvin revealed.
"They're looking for me?"
