Power of Faith pt.2: The “Guardians” of Heaven

Jacob put down his pen and leaned back in his wooden chair. The slight blue glow off his armor reflected the light coming in from the window, painting the wall in a transparent blue.

As Guildmaster, he was giving the best drops from his guildmates in exchange for money, but he hardly had any time now to go out and level up himself.

Muhammad made him become Guildmaster, while he became Vice-Guildmaster and became the captain of their leading force in SR. Jacob was quite jealous that his best friend got to play the game while he was doing paperwork.

He had a feeling Muhammad had purposefully made him Guildmaster, anticipating this work. Jacob chuckled and grabbed his pen while leaning over the desk to start his work again.

It was at that moment, that a knock came on the door.

"It's me, Jacob." A woman's voice came from the other side of the door.

"Doors always open Sara." Jacob replied and went back to his work. A woman in a white dress with a matching shawl came in holding a stack of papers.

Sara was the second Vice-Guildmaster and always delivered him his work, causing him to flinch whenever he saw her.

She was your typical next-door-neighbor kind of girl, not the childhood friend kind, and she was also Jewish.

She had dark brown hair and simple features. She wasn't well endowed in the chest department, but it didn't matter much since she was more reserved. She wasn't some jade beauty or anything, she was just a normal girl who also questioned her faith.

She was one of the first few people to join their cause and became quick friends with Jacob and Muhammad.

Jacob grimaced and hit his head on the table a few times. Sara giggled and dropped the stack next to the one Jacob was currently working on.

It was over twice as high, meaning he still had a lot of work to do.

"More applications keep coming in. I get the feeling people are mistaking us for a top guild." Sara pointed out and Jacob agreed.

Apparently a rumor went around that they were an up-and-coming new guild in Serene city and everyone jumped on the bandwagon.

He welcomed it at first, but now he cursed the idiot who gave him his current situation. He didn't know who or how it started but it was both good and bad for them.

Good as it it meant more members, bad as in-

"There were 4 disputes today. 2 between Rels and non-Rels, the other 2 between people of different faiths." Sara spoke some weird lingo, but Jacob understood.

As another joke, after a night of watching a Harry Pooter movie with his close group of new friends, they decided to call people with no faith, no-Rels or non-Rels, in reference to the terms used in the movie.

It was a joke at first, but then it caught on, and it even started becoming a form of bullying. He never meant for this to happen, but it did, and until they all stopped using the terms, fights would continue to happen.

Jacob pinched the bridge of his nose.

*sigh* "Alright, I'll mediate for the Rels if you can deal with the non-Rels." Sara hesitated as he stood up.

He didn't like using the terms either, but he had to admit that it was easier than saying religious and non-religious person all the time and "no-faithers" didn't get enough votes in whatever race they were in.

"Umm, I think I'll go ask someone else to do it if that's alright with you…" Sara had her head down and was squeezing her dress making her knuckles turn white.

Jacob was confused for a second then remembered.

"Ah sorry about that… I forgot you're the 'Nun of Essence' we have to keep you pure~" he sounded sincere at first then grinned and teased her.

She blushed and puffed out her cheeks then gave Jacob a half-hearted glare.

Sara hardly interacted with people other than their close-knit group, as her class change might've started the first guild war.

While he had the rare "Paladin" class, it was only rare. They were sought after, but they weren't overpowered in any way. They were just able to use healing spells in addition to tanking.

However, Nun of Essence was a Mythic class.

The description of it confused everyone, so they couldn't understand why she got it, but it was imperative that they kept it a secret.

If the other top guilds found out, they would get crushed in a heartbeat to get her. Even though it was pretty much the same as a normal healer class so far, just the tag "Mythic" could cause chaos.

Since then, she had been a hermit hiding in the rented out business building to hide from players in fear of being analyzed and reported to other guilds.

It hurt to see his friend like this, but Jacob didn't have a concealment item for her to use. They would just have to wait a bit longer.

"Oh by the way, what happened to that one guy? Faithful something?" Jacob thought hard but couldn't come up with a name.

"Faithful Son, and he left the guild. He said he went to go help out his father who was having a difficult time leveling up." Sara corrected him and Jacob nodded slowly.

"It's a big hit to lose our only other Paladin, but he was bound to leave soon. Since the moment Corey refused to let his father join, he already saw us as an enemy, even if we are both Rels."

Corey was another one of his close friends, but he was much more hotheaded than the rest. He was prone to seek out violence against people who hated religion and always got into fights with others inside and outside of the guild.

Corey recognized his plunder, but the damage was done.

"We are still keeping an eye on him, but I think something else is more pressing than a rare class. Did you hear the rumors of the Demon Tamer?" Sara changed the subject.

"I heard a bit. So he can tame demons like a monster tamer might? Seems a bit far-fetched if you ask me. Demons from other games were normally a higher race and looked down on humans. I highly doubt one would let a human control them."

"That may be true, but that doesn't matter. What matters is that this is a chance for our guild to look like heroes to the player base, and to strengthen our bonds within the guild. We now have a common enemy, an enemy of the Gods could only be a town over."

Sara had a serious look on her face. She was just as ambitious, maybe even more, than him and Muhammad.

Jacob sighed, but he knew it was also a good opportunity. He didn't like lying, but sometimes you had to get your hands dirty to reach the top. He knew because he found out his father had done so.

"Alright, if it's not already done, send out search teams to the nearby villages. It didn't specify which, so we just have to hope they're close."

"Yes Guildmaster." She replied.

They talked a bit more, before they both left the room, going opposite directions.

It was only the early game, and yet big things were already happening.

Author note:

Sorry for the chapters on religion. It was something I thought about putting in, as it can be a highly controversial topic. I apologize to anyone who is offended by anything said, it was not my intention and I gladly welcome corrections to my words.

Although I am not religious myself, I've always admired how powerful faith can be for a person. It gives people the strength to do things they may not normally do so I have a lot of respect for it.

These types of chapters won't happen for a while again, but they will become an important part of the early and mid-game :)

Also, not everything that I said is true to real life. This is fiction, and I can change it however I want since it's my book. If you don't like it, you can skip this since it's not super important right now, but you may miss some teasers.
