Ch 21: The Wheel of Fate

Feng Chen sat cross-legged in the cave, bathed in the soft glow of the Qi Gathering Array. Yin and Yang were playing nearby, their playful hisses filling the air. The latest system prompt about choosing a foundational martial arts technique echoed in his mind, demanding his full attention.

"Choosing the right foundation is crucial," he muttered to himself. "I need to think this through carefully."

Yin slithered over, tilting her head. "What's on your mind, master?"

Feng Chen sighed. "I'm trying to recall every single detail from the mangas I've read. While demonic techniques are stronger, they corrupt the mind," he said, voicing his thoughts. "Divine techniques, on the other hand, don't corrupt the mind but are weaker compared to those of demons. I won't be called invincible if I corrupt my mind or if I'm weaker than someone."

Yang joined them, curling around Feng Chen's arm. "You need a technique that's both strong and pure. Something that aligns with your goals."

"Exactly," Feng Chen replied. "But I don't have any major techniques. All I have is an attack technique and a movement technique."

Suddenly, a familiar notification window popped up.

-----

System Notification:-

System has detected host's situation. Thus, the system will provide host with a set of martial techniques to choose from.

Spin the wheel to get a certain set of martial techniques.

-----

In front of him, a large, colorful wheel materialized, floating in the air. The wheel looked infinitely unfair with its distribution:

- Blue Grade: 60%

- Yellow Grade: 30%

- Earth Grade: 8%

- Heaven Grade: 1.9%

- Supreme Heaven Grade: 0.09%

- ??? Grade: 0.01%

Feng Chen stared at the wheel, confusion evident on his face. Before he could think of anything else, another notification appeared.

-----

System Notification:-

Different grades are given to techniques and equipment in the mortal world, starting from...

Brown < Green < Blue < Yellow < Earth < Heaven.

-----

His eyes widened in realization. "I didn't know that the techniques I was using were of such high grade," he whispered. But the most intriguing part was the ??? Grade. It seemed like a sort of jackpot to him. He thought, "It must be something special."

Feng Chen clasped his hands together and started praying to all kinds of gods, hoping to at least win an Earth Grade technique. Yin and Yang, watching him from their bed, thought their master had gone mad. To them, it looked like he was staring into thin air and then suddenly began praying fervently.

"Master, why are you praying like that?" Yin asked, slithering closer.

"Are you trying to summon a spirit?" Yang added, looking equally puzzled.

Feng Chen chuckled nervously. "Something like that. Just hoping for a bit of luck."

They were disappointed at first but then remembered that the last time he did something like this, he had shown them some good magic. They started waving their tails happily, eager to see some magic again.

Feng Chen gathered his strength and clicked on the spin option. The wheel started spinning, and the ringing sound filled the cave. His heartbeat quickened with each passing second.

"Come on, come on, Earth Grade!" he whispered, eyes fixed on the spinning wheel. The wheel began to slow down, and the needle hovered over the different sections, teasing him with each passing moment.

"And... it landed on ??? Grade!" Feng Chen's eyes widened, a huge grin spread across his face, and then he fainted on the spot.

Yin and Yang were frightened at first, thinking their master had been cursed. They slithered over to him, nudging him gently.

"Master, wake up!" Yin cried, her voice filled with concern.

"Are you okay?" Yang asked, nudging his hand.

To their surprise, Feng Chen had a weird smile plastered on his face.
