Chapter Twelve

July 30, 1580

At some point during the night, I had somehow fallen asleep. When I came to, the block of wood that I had been lying on was being pushed ashore by the small waves of the now calm sea.

I squinted my eyes upon opening them, I threw my hand over them, shielding them from the sun's rays. I let out a loud groan as I sat up. My mind was blank for a few moments, before I remembered the crash.

My legs seemingly moving on their own, I jumped up. Dizzy, I almost fall back down, but I find the strength to drag myself onto the baking hot sand.

I stared down at the deep blue water in a daze. For a split second I see a blue-green tail, and what looked to be a pale blue arm in the distance. I looked closer, something, no, someone was swimming toward me. I blinked, and the creature was before me.
