The Plan

"Iris, I want a child."

Iris spit out the drink she was drinking and stared at Hero, bewildered.

"What! What! WHATTTT!"

Iris was ready to explode from that innuendo.

"I don't mean an actual human child; I just mean a pet."

"Why didn't you just say pet?"

"Sorry, Zeke got me into the habit of calling pets children."

Iris wiped up the drink and sat back down.

"Oh yeah, I've been meaning to ask, but why are we on the palace roof." Hero asked, trying to get comfortable on the lounge chair.

"The king is trying to take control of my castle."

"Really? Why."

"He says two castles should not stand in the same kingdom, or something like that."

"How come he hasn't taken control yet."

"You'll see." she said referencing the time Hero made her wait in the dessert. They waited for a while until an army of soldiers started marching towards the castle.

"Load the energy canon!" Iris shouted manically. Nicely dressed maids and butlers marched around the castle walls, a canon emerged from the wall and began to glow a bright green as it began charging up. The king's men immediately ran away from the canons.

'Woah, she's so cool. I wonder if her inventions can stop that thing.'

Hero quickly shook that though out of his head.

'What am I thinking, I'm dating her to keep her safe during this event, I can't put her in harm's way.'

Hero looked at Iris like a man deeply in love. Iris shouted fire like a maniac.

'She's so cute.'

Later that day Iris was reading her favorite novel as usual, Hero was feeling clingy that day but didn't want to disturb his girlfriend's reading process. Hero slowly inched his way on the couch next to her and laid his head on her lap content with life. Iris didn't complain, she was too deep in her book to care, and she already knows Hero's the only person in the castle bold enough to do something like this, 'Look at me, letting my archnemeses lay comfortably in my lap, is this what happens when someone lives with you for a month.' They stayed there silent for a while. Iris was enjoying her book while Hero's mind was racing as he tried to find solutions for the big problem that's soon to come. 'There's too much energy underneath the earth surface, how am I supposed to get rid of it?' Hero questioned, feeling increasingly more hopeless. Hero's job is more than just stopping Iris from doing something dumb, his job is to protect the world from the catastrophe that's to come from energy, the sacred sword, though seen as a gift, is a big burden on the life of someone who doesn't want it, someone like Hero.

'Sigh, something seems off about Hero.' Iris thought to herself, she placed her hand on Hero's head to calm him down, 'I can't have my future minion stressed out about something.' Hero felt her hand and melted in her touch, he placed his hand on hers and soon drifted to sleep, 'I'm sure I can think of something.' he mumbled before fully drifting to sleep.

"I think I've grown attach to this fool." Iris thought out loud as she gently placed a kiss on his forehead.

'I think it was around two years ago when my castle was attacked. It was either surrender or pay up. My parents were fools who didn't know how to use the land and it's recourses so they ended up surrendering. I however did not surrender, I held my ground, if they wanted to remove me from my palace, they would have to try their hardest to make me leave. I was always interested in the life force we call energy. Sure, it's harmless and even helpful in it's raw natural state. But what if I use it for something else. Something a bit more destructive. And that's how I created weapons all by myself. I kept these weapons from my foolish parents, and only revealed it when I had to surrender. I can care less about ruling over a kingdom, but that moment taught me how amazing money is, it's far more powerful than any weapon I can make Mwahahahaha!'

The two sat on the couch back-to-back

"You never responded about the child thing."

"Having a pet is too much responsibility."

"I promise I would protect it."

"That's not the issue, it's bathing feeding and cleaning it and it's mess up."

Hero drooped in the couch,

"But turtles are easy to take care of."

"You want a turtle?"

"Of course."

"I'll think about it."
