"Monsters! Deeeemons.....Prowlers of the night! Yes, the creatures of Grimm have many names, but I merely refer to them as prey! Ha-ha!" A fat old man exclaimed, laughing at his own joke. No one really laughed, they only responded with awkward silence as the joke was kinda lame.
"Yep, this is boring." Jin muttered before taking out some books and arranged them in a covering manner on his desk.
He didn't really need to learn more about Grimms. He already pretty much knew all the things that needs to be known about all different species of Grimms through some other books back in Signal.
He was a genius and he had a good memory. He still hasn't forgotten the contents, so he didn't need to listen to this fat old man. So he just took his Scroll out to entertain himself until the class ends.
Anyway, It was nine in the morning and he, along with team RWBY and JNPR, were having their first class of the day.
They were in Grimm Studies class, which is being taught by Professor Peter Port.
He was a bombastic man with a grey hair, styled in a way which could be described as classy, his eyes were obscured by his massive eyebrows, much like his mouth, which was covered by his ridiculously large moustache.
He was wearing a burgundy suit with gold trimmings, and a similarly coloured ascot, his belly bounced slightly as he walked and moved around, giving Jin the impression that he took pride in his appearance, even though he hadn't kept in shape
The teacher was currently 'lecturing' his students about the Grimms and even tried to make a joke about it, which failed miserably.
Ruby and her team were seated in the front row, while Jin was just in the row behind them. Blake and Yang were sitting up and paying attention, while Weiss was taking notes, but she was bored.
In fact, everyone right now was completely bored. They were either sleeping in class, or were just playing games on their desk with the old strategy of using books as their cover.
It couldn't be helped, as the majority of the fat instructor's words was about him bragging his achievements when he was in his prime, and not about the Grimms itself.
"Our planet is absolutely teeming with creatures that would love nothing more than to tear you to pieces, and that's where we come in! Huntsman....and Huntresses." He said before flashing a wink at Yang, which just made the girl cringe and groan uncomfortably.
"Individuals who have sworn to protect those who cannot protect themselves! From what, you ask? Why, the very world!"
Silence...
'Well Port, the only thing that has it going for you is that awesome mustache. I mean, look at that thing, its freakin beauti-..'
"Eyyyy-yep!"
Brought out of his thoughts and breaking the silence, Jin and the other students turned to their fellow hunter-in-training, who just suddenly yelled in an affirmative cheer, with puzzled expressions.
The student, who still had his hand up while standing with an excited look on his face, immediately sat down in embarassment.
'It's good to be enthusiastic, but there was no need for such a fuss.' Weiss thought as she shook her head at the display before turning her attention back to the Professor, who then continued in his speech.
"Anyway...That is what you are training to become! But first: A story. A tale of a young, handsome man.....Me! When I was a boy..."
Professor Port then went into a long talk about his victories and stories of his youth. Weiss just rolled her eyes and decided to not listen to him in this part.
As she propped her head up with her hand, she then noticed her leader drawing something on a paper.
Snickering at her creation, Ruby soon finished, then showed her work to her team with a silly grin on her face.
It was a crappy drawing of Professor Port with stick figure limbs and stink lines coming off him. Oh, and it was also labeled Professor Poop.
The drawing brought some laughs to Yang and Blake, but Weiss was not having it. She was irritated, and she frowned at Ruby's work.
'Ruby, what in the world are you doing?!' Weiss thought in annoyance.
'She's been acting childish since this morning, and not once showed any sign of real leadership! It's like she thinks this is all a game or something! Oh, she better shape up or-..'
"Ehe-hem!"
Team RWBY immediately behaved themselves before they turned to Port, who was staring at them for a while before continuing on with his prepostrous stories.
"Now where was I...Oh!...In the end, the Beowolf was no match for my sheer tenacity, and I returned to my village with the beast in captivity..."
As he spoke, Ruby also continued with her antics, which drew the attention of her friends and made Weiss even more frustrated.
"A true Huntsman must be honorable!" Port's babbling was heard on the background.
Ruby's antics included balancing an apple on a book with a pencil, that was only held with her index finger as she made a silly face.
'Thats.....pretty impressive actually.' Ren thought.
'Those are some good balancing skills, but does she have to make a face like that?' Pyrrha mentally questioned.
Jin was seated right behind Yang and he noticed that Weiss was fuming while watching Ruby, that was not paying attention and was doing some stupid stuff.
"A true Huntsman must be dependable!"
Ruby, fell asleep in class…..again.
'Well, I don't blame her for sleeping. This guy is really boring.' Jaune thought in amusement.
"A true Huntsman must be strategic, well-educated, and wise!"
Weiss' anger was increasing every second as Ruby continued in doing her antics. This time, Ruby was now picking on her nose, and this greatly infuriated the heiress. This kind of behavior was the trigger that made Weiss silently erupt.
'Ah, Ruby. Pops is gonna throw a fit if he saw you picking your nose in public again.' Jin thought.
"So, who among you believes themselves to be the embodiment of these traits?"
The moment those words left the Professor's mouth, Weiss shot her hand in the air and answered with an angry look on her face.
"I do, Sir!"
Port was wondering why the white haired girl seemed to be angry, but he still nodded at the heiress before gesturing to the cage behind him that somehow gone unoticed until now. It obviously held a Grimm inside as it was shaking and was letting out some animal noises.
"Well then, let's find out! Step forward and face your opponent!"
Weiss then furiously got up from her seat and went to change.
Noticing the angry look on Weiss' face as she went to get ready, Jin immediately knew what was going on.
"Well, there you have it. She finally exploded from anger."
Jaune, who was sitting next to the Elite Student, looked at him curiously, "How can you tell?"
"Look at her face, Jaune." Ren spoke out.
"She looked like she was about to blow up. Last night, I know that she was frustrated for some reason, but she tried really hard to hold it. And now, I have reason to believe that her frustration and anger has been building up throughout the morning."
Weiss may didn't show it to anyone last night, but Jin could already tell it as he was looking at her frowning face last night. She was in a bad mood after the team ceremony.
"So.....Why?" Pyrrha asked.
"It must have been because of Ruby." Jin said.
"Weiss seems to take the path of the huntress very seriously, and I think she worked herself to the bone just to get to where she's at. But, seeing someone who is assigned to be her team leader screwing around and acting like a kid must have made her frustrated and angry. And sadly, from what I've seen, Ruby's been acting like that all morning and she doesn't take her responsibilities seriously."
Jaune continued to stare at his friend in confusion, "Why would Ruby act like a kid here? Shouldn't she start taking things seriously? She's a leader now, right?"
"It's because she's trying to get comfortable here," Jin sighed.
"You have to know that she's skipped a couple of grades to get here, by accident of all things, and she's been made a leader of her own team on top of that. We can't even imagine how nervous she is right now. She's been messing around in order to relax and calm herself, but it looks like she's taken it too far. I'm not saying what she did was wrong, but Ruby still needs to learn some self-control. And sadly, what she did just now wasn't really excusable. I hate to talk like this but she needs to know that we're Beacon students now and we need to be at our best behavior.....Well at least in certain occasions."
Jin knew Ruby too well. The two were very close and he can easily tell what she would feel about the things that happened to her.
"How come genius like me not know what's going on..." He muttered
Meanwhile, Pyrrha heard him, and was now looking at Jin with a scrutinizing gaze. She had been thinking about his bizzare behavior ever since the team choosing ceremony.
He was easygoing, amicable, intelligent, cares and knows so much about his sisters - and very powerful. He had to be, to have had so little trouble with the initiation.
Yesterday, she didn't even think that he would actually fight those two monstrous Grimm back in the forest and win, but she was proven to be wrong, and he even killed in what seemed to be more than thirty Beowolves alone in the forest, easily on top of that. It was a one-sided slaughter and his strength was just...
It was a surprise that she hadn't heard of him before, or perhaps, at least in the tournament circles. Someone so skilled and powerful should be as famous as she was.
"A Genius like me is bound to be special, right?"
"What can I say? I'm talented."
These words of his really made Pyrrha feel weird.
He seemed to be the type of guy that enjoyed fame and glory, so why didn't he make himself famous in his early days?
"I'm just a normal girl." Was the response she would always say when she was praised because of her skill.
She hadn't said that because she was.....but because it was what she desperately wished to be. And this guy would say and accept that he was a talented individual that was bound for greatness with a smile.
He was not the same as her. She had come to Beacon hoping for a new start, to avoid the fame and expectations of her past. Was that the difference between them, that where she had simply attempted to fade into the background, devoid of any hope of it actually succeeding, and he came here to get famous now? Be recognized as a prodigy? Or was it something else.
'He seems to take pride in his talents.....Why can't I do the same?'
The thought of it made her throat go dry.
His strength, his skill and his ability to kill the Grimms like they were livestock, all spoke of advanced training. And he wouldn't try to hide it and show off, but for some reason, if she was on his shoes then she would definitely want to hide it.
'I don't understand him.....Maybe I'm just being a weird girl.....Maybe he's actually a saner person than me.....Afterall, what kind of sane person would not like fame and glory?'
Meanwhile, Jaune turned to the Professor and he raised a hand.
"Yes, Mr. Arc? Do you have a question? Or, do you also wish to partake in this exercise?" He asked Jaune.
"Professor, how did you manage to capture a Boarbatusk?" Jaune asked, finally letting the question of curiousity in his mind loose. Professor Port looked at him in amusement and then laughed.
"Ah, my boy, this is one of my most prized creatures in captivity. I have an entire menagerie dedicated to researching the Creatures of Grimm! Unfortunately, this one in particular got a bit...unruly in his space." He explained.
As if angered by the captor's choice of words, the Grimm in the cage began to shake even more violently. The padlock holding it closed rattled noisily against the cage.
This made Jaune winced; a little worried about what this Boarbatusk would do should it get loose before Weiss returns.
"So, to my great regret, I've been forced to do things with my own hand: this will be 'his last hurrah', so to say. But I wouldn't worry. I've been using this method for years. I know what I'm doing." Port finished.
Jaune was about to say something, until the cage rattled more violently than ever, as if furiously trying to break free.
He and the others then turned to see the now returning Weiss in her regular clothes, Myrtenaster drawn, ready to fight the Grimm.
