Chapter 36

"The base is in this area."

I look at the map Qrow places on the table and nod my head. The base is located in the northern part of the forest, a dozen kilometers from the coast. If what Qrow says is right, they are inside an ancient fortress on a rather big hill.

"This will be hard. You can easily get over their defense because of your bird transformation, but I will need some preparation to pass the guard."

"But you can. You just need time to prepare."

"Yes. Lucky for me, we will attack them tomorrow morning. I have time to prepare some invisibility spell."

"Good. How long will this spell last?"

"As long as I have magic in me."

And there is my mana battery jewel in my bag that I can use to power up the mystic code. I already have the material needed, but I need some animal blood to strengthen the effect. I hope the butcher is willing to sell some cow's blood.

"Good. I already infiltrate the base and have a general area. Here is the map of the base I drew."

Qrow places another piece of paper on the table. This time it was a simple map.

"This, this, and this is the entrance. The most heavily guarded entrance is this one."

Qrow pointed his finger at the entrance in the south.

"We can use the entrance from the west and the east or…."

Qrow finger lands on the southern part of the map and stops on the wall.

"Or we can use this area here to get inside the fortress. There is a huge gap on the wall in this area that we can use to get inside."

"I see. This is an abandoned fortress after all."

"Yup. I propose that we use this route. The only thing we need is climbing tools to climb the wall."

"Are you sure it will be strong enough for me to climb? It was "

"I already tested it, and it was strong enough to handle you."

"Good. That means we only need a climbing tool to climb the wall. Do you think Ozpin has some climbing tools?"

"He does. Many huntsmen use them when Ozpin gives them a mission."

"Then can you ask him to give us those tools? I need to make some preparations quickly."

"Very well. We will meet in Beacon at two in the morning for a briefing."

After seeing Qrow get out from my house (that Ozpin lent to me), I took out the material needed to make the mystic code required.

I decided to make a Mystic Code that bent the light around my body after equipping the ring and feeding it my mana to become invisible. Not only that, but I will also add some mundane rejection effects into the ring. This effect will make any non-magical creature ignore me and make them think nothing is interesting around the area when I stand.

"Hmmm, I also need something that can be used in case of an emergency."

I take my notepad and start to write any item I can make to help me in this mission.

Riser and Qrow are standing in front of Ozpin and Glynda while waiting for Ozpin to finish his briefing.

"This mission is all about speed and stealth. Ann Greene, our stealth professor, already sent to the White Fang's base and put some cameras around the base. After watching them all day, the powerhouse of this group currently has some meetings outside the base. This will be your chance. Quickly get inside the base, release all the prisoners, take as much dust as you can and get out of the base while destroying the base along the way."

Ozpin looked at Qrow and Angelo for a second before saying.

"I already gave you a general structure of the fortress, and Ann already drew a simple map of the building. You will start this mission in a few minutes. Godspeed, gentlemen."

After hearing that, Qrow and Angelo walk away from the Headmaster's office. Their mission is starting. When both of them get out of the Beacon Tower, Angelo looks at his partner and says.

"How do we get there?"

"We… That is a good question. We can't use motorcycles as it was too loud or even a Bullhead. We will run there. It should only take an hour if we go at full speed-Wait!"

Qrow quickly looks at Angelo before saying.

"We can use ySubmarinerine to sneak near the base. There is a river connecting Beacon Lake to the northern sea, and the base itself is only one kilometer from the base. We can save time and energy by doing this."

"Good enough. Come on."

The both of them get inside Eli and get to their target. After looking around using the drone inside Eli and making sure there is no one around them, Qrow and Angelo get out from Submarinerine.

They start to run as fast as possible while also making sure no one sees them. After fifteen minutes of running at full speed, they can see a massive structure on top of the hill. It was an abandoned castle. Almost all of its structure has been destroyed either by time or by a Grimm.

"That is this. The White Fang base."

"Why did White Fang decide to use that thing as their base? I thought that they would take a cave instead of a massive building."

"Because that building is already abandoned and far enough from civilization that their location is relatively safe from unwanted eyes. If not for seeing a dozen White Fang members walking around this area, we would not have thought of checking this building. Not only that, that thing is very fortified. That fortress is something that was used back in the day to defend against a Grimm before finally crumbling after a massive Grimm wave attacked it."

"I see. How should we do it now? Should we use your plan by getting on the back of the fort and climbing the wall? Or do we spread out? You can get inside by using your bird form while I go from the front and meet up in the basement?"

"... We will do the latter."

"Very well. Meet you in the basement."

After saying that, Angelo activates his mystic code and suddenly disappears from Qrow's view. Seeing Angelo disappear, Qrow changes into his bird form a second later and then flies toward the target.

The mission has started, and a lot of blood will be shed tonight.
