(Back at Beacon)
Glynda was awoken early by the blaring of her scroll's emergency alarm. She quickly snapped into alert mode as the message revealed that an intruder had broken into Beacon Academy. Without a second thought, she grabbed her weapon and stormed off to confront the trespasser.
Despite her grogginess and fatigue, she overlooked several red flags that something was off about the situation. For one, Ozpin was known to keep track of who came and went at Beacon. Secondly, the intruder had not caused any harm or damage, only been spotted. And third, the call had come from something other than security but from the kitchen staff.
Ignoring these warning signs, Glynda stormed into the cafeteria, ready to take on the intruder. She kicked open the door and was greeted by an empty room, except for the kitchen staff and a single man calmly sitting at a table and eating a sandwich. Despite the presence of a group of around 50 Huntsmen-in-training, all the kitchen staff seemed terrified of this one man.
Enraged, Glynda flicked her riding crop and sent tables flying toward the man. He remained oblivious to the threat until the last moment when he ducked under the table to avoid being hit. As the tables smashed through the windows behind him, Guts pulled himself back up and reached for another bite of the sandwich.
Believing she was being mocked, Glynda used her semblance to wrap shards of glass around the man, trapping him against a support column and pinning him to the ground. As she approached, scowling and ready to squeeze his life out, Glynda was surprised to see that the man was just a child with spiky black hair.
But Guts was unfazed by Glynda's aggressive posture, his gaze fixed on his sandwich. Seeing that she was getting nowhere, Glynda began to squeeze Guts' throat, determined to kill him. As she leaned in close, looking deep into his eyes, she intended to be the last thing he saw before his final moments. But Guts had other plans. He broke free of Glynda's grasp with a powerful thrust of his arms, causing her to fall. Before she could react, Guts grabbed her by the jaw and threw her over his shoulder, slamming her back-first onto the ground, cracking the tiles beneath.
Guts stood up and sighed, "I just wanted some fucking food. I didn't want to bother anyone, so I made it myself." He explained, trying to get back to his sandwich.
"My apologies for my headmistress attacking you. She was not at the meeting when we invited you to join, so she was unaware of your privileges. I was just about to send out an email to inform the staff when I received the alert that an intruder was on campus. Knowing it was you, I tried to intervene, but it seems I was too late," said Ozpin.
Guts looked over to the door to see Ozpin standing stoically.
Guts sighed, his anger forgotten. "It's fine, Oz. I hope I didn't hurt you too badly, Ms. Headmistress," Guts said, turning to Glynda.
"No, just my pride. Excuse me; I'm going to the medical wing to get an aura booster," she said as she limped off.
Ozpin grimaced as Glynda left in pain. He turned to Guts and handed him his scroll.
"It took a while, but here is the scroll. Qrow has told me about your past and where you've come from, so I've taken the time to upload several documents for you to read to get you caught up on Remnant affairs and history. It will also act as the key to your dorm from now on. The new students will be here in a few days, and I'd like for you to be here as a student as well," Ozpin said.
"Along with the other tasks you told me," Guts said.
Ozpin nodded. "Those will only occur until the students arrive. From then on, you will be a full-time student."
Guts nodded as he accepted the scroll from Ozpin, who dismissed himself to fill out paperwork.
After finishing his meal, Guts went to the courtyard to swing his sword for training.
(In Vale)
As the Airbus prepared for takeoff, Ruby and Yang stood side by side, each with their bags in tow. Yang slung her bag over her shoulder while Ruby's bags sat at her feet. "Thanks for seeing me off," Yang said as she wrapped her arms around Ruby in a hug.
"Of course, that's what sisters are for?" Ruby replied with a smile.
"To tease and make fun of," Yang quipped, playfully squeezing Ruby's butt.
"Yang!" Ruby hissed, glancing around nervously. Yang just chuckled, unfazed by her sister's embarrassment.
"What are you talking about?" Tai asked.
Yang grinned. "Ruby's planning on staying at the Signal dorms for the next two years," she announced.
Tai raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced by the lie. "I should go and let people on."
"Here, I'll come with you," Ruby offered, picking up her bags and walking alongside Yang.
"Oh, sis, you don't need to," Yang said, attempting to debunk the lie gently. But Ruby was undeterred. "Oh no, this is what sisters are for," she replied, nudging Yang with her elbow.
As they boarded the plane, Yang remained quiet for a moment before turning to Ruby. "So, going to Signal, huh?" she asked. "Yeah, I knew that lie wouldn't make it past the line," Ruby admitted.
"Still, it lasted farther than most. If I didn't already know," Yang said with a shrug. Ruby turned to her sister in surprise. "You knew?" she asked. "I'm your sister; of course, I know. It's my job to protect you," Yang replied, feeling guilty for the lie.
Ruby smiled up at her sister. "So, are you proud of me?" she asked.
"Proud of you? That's an understatement!" Yang exclaimed, pulling Ruby into another hug.
"What's wrong? Aren't you excited?" Yang asked, sensing her sister's hesitation.
"Of course I'm excited. It's just…I got into school two years early. I don't want anyone to think I'm special," Ruby explained.
"But you are," Yang said firmly.
As the ship took off, the passengers were interrupted by a news report detailing a recently failed heist by Roman. Ruby rolled her eyes at the constant coverage of the event. "Not a fan?" Yang asked. "No, it's just that they've been playing that same story for a week now. Isn't there anything else important going on?" Ruby complained.
"Well, it's the first time he was nearly caught," Yang pointed out. "Yeah, nearly," Ruby replied with a sigh, walking over to the windows to watch as the plane approached Beacon.
As the ship approached Beacon, a voice called out, "Hey, look, someone is down there training!" The passengers rushed to the window, peering down at the figure below.
The man was a formidable sight, with bulging muscles straining as he swung a massive sword at the ground with all his might.
Laughter erupted from the group as they watched him, with one boy remarking, "What an idiot, he's not even doing any special moves." A girl added, "No way will he be able to kill Grimm like that," before walking away with a scoff.
Yang couldn't help but feel sad at their words, as she had almost voiced the same thoughts.
However, Ruby's comment stopped her in her tracks. "Idiots," she hissed, causing Yang to look at her in surprise. "Those swings have enough power to kill up to five Grimm in a single swing. He doesn't need to make any 'special moves,' he's a tank by himself," Ruby explained.
Yang cocked her head, curious. "How can you tell, sis?" she asked. Ruby pointed down at the dust cloud the man's swings were creating. "Look at the dust cloud he picks up whenever he swings," she said.
Yang's eyes widened as she looked back at the figure, realizing that the cloud was large enough to indicate the power of Ruby's strikes.
