Icarus
I had expected her a lot sooner, but even this timing was perfect for me. Although hurt and full of rage, I could still tell that Maeve was being extremely cautious of me. Klaus had probably warned her to stay away from me, but she had grown too desperate, and had clearly ignored those words of advice.
"It's been far too long Maeve, what brings you here?" I inquired while I gestured for her to settle beside me. She obeyed, but didn't exactly sit on the designated spot I had pointed out for her. I knew why she was here, and I knew exactly what she wanted. I had walked into her crying on the day of Klaus and Lisa's mating night, and I had taken my time to exploit her at that moment.
She had pushed me away, but that was after I had planted seeds of doubt in her head, and dropped down my address for her. Maeve was in love with Klaus, that much was evident, and she was an obsessive lover. Klaus on the other hand had only agreed to be with Maeve just to foster a good relationship between his kingdom and that of Maeve's father. He never saw her as a lover, but he didn't also disregard her. I knew my brother better than anyone, he was cold on the outside, but deep down he cared more than anybody else.
"You said to seek for you if I ever need anything, well here I am." Maeve spoke after she had taken her time to admire the interior design of my living room. "Lisa Thornberry is a nuisance, I want her dead."
I chuckled mildly before leaning in to ask her a question. "If Lisa dies, do you think Klaus will love you?"
My words had caught her off guard, and soon the look of shock on her face contorted into one of anger. "He already loves me, that lowlife is only standing in the way of that love. I want her gone." Maeve maintained with a firm demeanor.
"If I get rid of her, what would you give me in return?" I asked, and for a moment, Maeve went silent. And then in the next second, she was full of life.
"The crown, isn't that what you want? With Lisa out of the way, Klaus would have no heir, and you'll be crowned king. It's a win-win situation for the both of us." She pointed out the obvious. However, she had failed to realize that the murder of Lisa Thornberry was already an option for me before her proposal. And if that had been an option, why haven't I carried out Lisa's execution? Maeve wasn't the brightest, so I didn't expect her to ask me these questions.
"It's not enough, even without your proposal, eliminating Lisa Thornberry was already part of my plan. I would still have the crown without this alliance. So for the second time, what will you offer me?" I explained, and this time she had nothing to say.
Bored by the silence, I eased her with a wave of my hand. She had no idea how much power she possessed, and I loved that for me. Exploiting her would be easy, but even at that, I knew I had to thread carefully. George Anders was not a man who tolerated insults to his family name.
"I won't kill Lisa Thornberry, she's important to me." I revealed and Maeve's eyes widened expressively.
"What? Of what use is that girl to you? She's an omega! Why is everyone so obsessed with her?!" Maeve thundered. Her hatred for Lisa was strong, and it had driven her close to insanity. According Lisa , any sort of importance in her presence was clearly her trigger spell.
"What I'll do with her is none of your business." I continued in a calculated tone. "But I can still help you get Klaus if you want him—"
"I shouldn't have come here!" She interrupted me, her voice laced with regret as she rose from her seat and headed for the exit. "What's the use of being with Klaus when that girl is still around? She's his mate, their connection is going to take his attention from me. I want her dead!" Maeve lamented before exiting the house. I didn't stop her, nor did I try to call her back. She would definitely return, I was certain of it. Maeve may be wild, but she definitely wasn't capable of taking someone's life, she wasn't wired for such a task.
Her reasons were definitely valid, and anybody else would have been disappointed by my reply. However, it wouldn't change the situation. My wife, Krista, couldn't give me a child, and to claim the throne for myself, I still needed an heir. We had managed to deceive the entire kingdom into thinking that Krista was with child, while in reality it was all a charade. I had done that to mount pressure on Klaus, and it had worked. Since we were twins, we were connected in almost everything. We shared mates, and I had no doubt that his next mate would also share a bond with us.
I had done my own part of the searching, and when I couldn't find a new mate, the only thing I could do was make Klaus do the work. And as expected, he had found Lisa Thornberry. On the mating night when I visited, I was certain Lisa and I had connected, but it was barely noticeable because she had already been claimed by Klaus by the time I arrived.
Klaus was smart to wed her immediately he found her, if that hadn't been the case, I might have been able to convince Lisa into becoming my bride, just like I did with Krista.
"I heard voices, is everything okay?" The feeble voice of my wife inquired, pulling me away from my thoughts.
I turned to her with a smile before giving her an answer. "It's nothing to be worried about. You shouldn't bother yourself about anything." I reassured before gesturing that she returns to her room.
I loved Krista, but as long as she was around, getting Lisa Thornberry would be a lot more difficult. As long as we remained mated to one another, my connection to Lisa would remain suppressed. It was a difficult decision, but in order to kindle the bond between Lisa and I, Klaus and Krista would have to die.
