The Dragon King

Janae was sitting in a very comfortable room. It was ornately decorated with a very cushiony bed with large drapes hanging overhead.

She had been lying in this bedroom for weeks now, although she was far from miserable. She had no contact with anybody outside a solid metal door, but there was a sliding opening at the bottom through which trays of food on silver platters were given to her.

She had asked for entertainment, and even though nobody answered her, in a few hours, she had dozens of different books to read from.

Janae sighed, then punched one of the pillows on her bed. It's driving her nuts staying in this one room!

"Hey! Anybody out there! I want to leave!!"

She couldn't remember how she got here at all. All she could remember was that she was in Irigia, and then suddenly she was in this room. She had blacked out for the entire duration of her travels.

Suddenly, she heard the sound of metal scraping on metal as the massive door began to open. She saw the most unexpected thing or person walk through the door.

It was a man, although this man had scaly skin and large horns on his head. A tail also protruded from behind him, swinging gently from side to side. His eyes were yellow slits that appeared very lizard-like.

His voice was gentle and silky when he spoke, "pardon the silence you've had over the weeks. I'm afraid I've been busy taking care of business outside of here. My name is Jonah."

Janae stared at the man with confusion, "why do you look like that? Why is your skin all scaly?"

Jonah quietly laughed, "that is my real skin. The human form is one I took so that you would not be so frightened. My second sibling and I can take a human form since we are both at the Behemoth level for monsters."

Janae's heart dropped, "Inian told me what he saw in his dreams; you are one of the Dragon's descendants."

Jonah's voice echoed cruelty, "the current KING?! He is but a liar and a monster unto himself. He does not deserve the title of the king!"

He took a moment and composed himself, "do you know the real story? Or only the king's side?"

Janae raised her eyebrows and backed up towards a chair to sit down. She knew she wouldn't be able to escape this behemoth level monster at all.

"The true story my dear is that the first king went berserk. He began destroying everything around him, and my ancestor, the Dragon rallied allies to stop him. It was a devastating time, and many lives were lost. However, the king stopped going berserk after killing my honorable ancestor. Then he went on to blame the Dragon and his forces for the losses and marked them as a rebellion! It is a stain on the Dragon's name! He only wished to save as many monsters as he could."

Jonah sat on the bed, and his shoulders drooped.

'Is this really the eldest descendant? The behemoth level monster?' Janae thought. She went and hesitatingly sat on the bed next to the descendant.

The descendant smiled at her, "I only brought you here because I wanted you of all people to know the truth. I know you are very close to the current king, but be wary, the power of the king corrupts them. I have seen it before. You must be careful when dealing with him!"

Jonah then sighed, "you are free to go now; I just wanted to share with you my side of the story. Even the current king may not be aware of the danger he's in. It's your job to help save him."

Janae was shocked by these new pieces of news. Inian was a danger to himself and could go berserk any time? She had never noticed it before!

"So how do I get home then?" She asked.

Jonah waved his hand and powder shot over her, "we will take you home; all you need to do is rest."

She collapsed into his arms, and he laid her out on the bed.

Soon, an eerie chill came into the room. White fog billowed out from the creature walking into the room. It was a human-looking creature with ice attached to different parts of its body. It slowly walked in, observing Janae sleeping on the bed.

"Brother, do you really believe it was a good idea telling her the story?"

Jonah smiled, "if anything, sending her back will confuse and unnerve the current king. She'll get back and look at her friend differently. That may be enough to cause the current king to go on a rampage. When that happens, then we will swoop in to kill the king. We have been waiting so long for this, but we need to kill him in the right way. I want the descendants to appear as heroes to both humans and monsters. We will be revered, and they will make me the new king."

The ice brother crossed his arms, "I don't believe we should wait until the newest king becomes stronger. He's already killed our youngest brother, and he's growing at a faster rate than any other king before him."

Jonah laughed, "that makes it even better. He will be corrupted by the power he gains. Our little king will turn into a little demon that we can slay."
