New Connections and Coffee Cravings

As we strolled across campus, conversation flowed freely between us. We delved into various topics, including the academic pursuits we were both embarking upon. I shared that my chosen field of study was natural science, to which she revealed her own passion for film. Our exchange of words continued until we arrived at the inviting entrance of the campus cafe, where the delicious aromas wafting from within reminded me that my stomach was still quite empty.

"Hey, I'm gonna join my friends over there. You can go ahead and order, then come sit with us," she suggested with a warm smile.

"Thanks," I replied, a tiny smile creeping onto my face as I made my way toward the counter. The prospect of meeting new people and the anticipation of a satisfying meal both brought joy to my heart.

"Can I get a vanilla iced coffee, a donut, and a cinnamon roll?" I pleasantly requested from the lady at the counter, my sweet tooth clearly guiding my choices. She nodded politely, turned, and headed off to retrieve my order.

After a short while, she returned with my donut and cinnamon roll but regretfully informed me that the iced coffee would take a little longer. She suggested that I find a seat and wait, promising to call me once it was ready. I nodded in agreement and decided to head over to Rae, who sat with her friends at a booth on the other side of the cafe.

"Hey!" I greeted them enthusiastically as I approached their table.

Rae turned to me, returning the greeting with an equally warm, "Hey."

She introduced me to her friends, motioning for me to sit beside her. "Guys, this is the girl I was telling you about," she said, turning to face Casy, Tyler, and Maria.

I settled into the booth with a friendly "hi" and took note of the welcoming grins on their faces.

Maria spoke up. "So, Sophia, Rae mentioned you're new to Oakwood. How are you liking it so far?"

"It's been good. I didn't expect to socialize with new people so quickly," I replied, my smile reflecting my genuine satisfaction.

Maria chuckled. "Yeah, Rae has a way of bringing people together. Speaking of socializing, there's a party at The Theta Pi Delta Sorority tonight to kick off the new school year. Would you like to join us?"

I hesitated for a moment, considering the offer. "I don't know. I wouldn't want to intrude or spoil your fun," I responded with a touch of uncertainty.

"Don't worry at all," Rae reassured me. "We want you to come. It'll be a fantastic opportunity for you to meet new people and have some fun."

I pondered the invitation for a brief moment before deciding that it might indeed be an enjoyable experience. After all, what was the worst that could happen, right?
