Calls

William and the first members of the team were all on the same page when they decided to make the Brightville University as a safe settlement for survivors.

They don't have any news about the government but now, with their access to the control room and its communication, they could confirm news about the government and the situation around the world.

However, that won't stop the fact that they needed to create a safe place for survivors.

Now that the gates are closed, they have achieved the first step of their plan.

With that in the bag, the sixth day would revolve around clearing the remaining zombies and rescuing the survivors in the university.

After a quick breakfast, the team moved to the Broadcasting Building where the control room was together.

There were still a few zombies around but they could be easily handled by the team.

The first thing the team did was to clean the control room by removing the corpses of the zombies from the place and washing the bloods away.

They also gathered the drops from the bodies and put them with the other drops. Apparently, after Miles passed out, William and the others collected the drops from the zombies.

While doing so, they also discovered that zombies killed by guns didn't have any drop items on them. Because of this, the team now decided to use their original melee weapons to kill the zombies and use the guns if and only if they were really needed and as a last resort.

Losing exp was one thing but losing drops was a huge matter too.

From what they could observe, the moment a zombie was damaged by a bullet, exp would not be received and items would not drop.

They asked the system a few times but it didn't give them any information about it.

On the other hand, Miles was not affected by this matter. For him, killing the zombies with anything was the same because he would receive points nonetheless.

The team gathered around the table in the control room and put the items on the table.

"Let's distribute and divide the drops first." William said.

The first items were from the two Berserk Zombies. There were a total of four items. Two of which were skill books, one weapon and a ring. They also stored the body of the second Berserk Zombie because its parts could be used as raw materials.

"These are the ones from Jason and these are the ones from the other Berserk Zombie." William passed the four items to Miles. "Although I last hitted the Berserk Zombie, you dealt most of the damage so these should be given to you."

Seeing the items in front of him, Miles fell into a dilemma once again. Because he didn't have any system to identify these items, he had no idea what they were.

'I could take the ring and weapon but the skill book is useless to me.' He was trying to think of a reason to decline the skill book.

"...Um."

Right then, Julia took a skill book and said, "This Rage skill is good but it could only be learned by fighters so it's useless for you."

'Oh!' Miles shouted inside. He didn't know what came to Julia but her assistance was very helpful and he could only be grateful towards her.

{ Rage (C) - You enter a rage state, increasing all stats by 20% for three minutes. During this time, all skill cooldowns and cost are reduced by 20%. After the duration of the skill, the user will enter a weak state that reduces all stats by 10% for one minute.

Cost: 200 MP Cooldown: One hour

Requirements: Fighter Class Lvl 30}

"Right. I don't need the skill book. You can take it, William." Miles said.

William smiled and took the skill book without hesitation. This skill was very useful to him and it was way more powerful than the Fighter's Spirit that Hans had.

Miles took the weapon and held it in his hands. It was a claw knife with a red blade. After a few moments, he passed it to Julia. "You take it. It's not suited for me."

"Oh." Julia took the knife and played with it. "Thank you. This is very useful to me."

{ Red Claw Knife (C) - A knife perfect for slitting throats.

*Inflicts -50 bleeding damage per second for ten seconds.

Attack Power-200

Durability-20/20

Requirements: None }

"Mm." Miles nodded. He then took the other skill book and passed it also to William. "I just need the items."

"Alright."

William then raised the other skill book from the Berserk Zombie.

"This is Shocking Yell. Let's decide who this will go to." he said.

{ Shocking Yell (C) - Let out a loud cry that will shock and stun targets within a ten meter radius for five seconds.

Cost: 100 MP Cooldown: Ten Minutes

Requirements: All Melee Class Lvl 30 }

After some time, it was decided that the skill would go to Dante.

The drop distribution went in for some time before it was finished.

Everyone gained at least one skill and a few E and D rank items from the recent battle.

And considering that the team has now an average level of 25, they really earned a lot. William still has the highest level at 28 because he was the one who last hitted the second Berserk Zombie.

The team was satisfied with what they've gained.

Apart from the ring that Miles got from Jason, Julia passed two more rings.

{ Low Strength Ring (E) - Increases STR by 10.

Requirements: None }

{ Copper Ring of Hardness(D) - Increases DEF and MDEF by 15. Punching targets with the ring deals 10% more damage.

Requirements: None }

{ Durability Ring(D) - Decrease physical damage taken by 7%.

Requirements: None }

He was satisfied with the rings because he felt that his strength had gone up even though he didn't know the real effects of the items.

When the item distribution was done, the team placed a complete map of the Brightville university on the table. They will discuss what areas they will go first based on the density of the zombie and the number of survivors.

In order to do that, they need to have a look at all of the corners of the campus.

Dante and Paul operated the cameras around the university and began scanning each area and building.

The others were behind them, trying to see each monitor if there were any traces of survivors around.

And with the help of the cameras, it was not long before they found some survivors. It was a group of ten cramped in a small room.

They noted their location and other details like the number of survivors and approximate number of zombies around them.

The team continued to do their inspection of each camera and room, not forgetting to take details of each area and location of each survivor.

Finally at 9 am, they came up with their plan.

"Based on the information we have, the best route is to start north and make our way around the campus in a counter clockwise direction. We can take some of the densest areas with zombies and a few surviving groups." William said. "We will also get to the parking building. Let's take some vehicles and use them to travel and transport the survivors here. Also, somebody should pick up our friends that we left in the faculty dorm. They must be waiting for us."

"When we arrive at the Shop and Foundry building in the north west, we can get some new weapons there." Dante added.

"That's good. I actually need a new weapon." Miles muttered.

The others were glad to hear about the possibility of getting new weapons too. After all, there were not many weapons dropped from the zombies. Their weapons were also in bad condition and in need of repair.

"We can do this on our own but that would take a long time. Getting help from other players would be a good idea." William smiled. "How was the situation of the survivors?"

Helen spoke with a smile. "They were aggressive at first but when Julia told them they could just leave if they wanted to, they went silent and became tame."

Everyone shifted their heads towards Julia.

Miles and Michelle gave her a thumbs up.

She just shrugged and said with a flat tone, "I was about to throw them out if they didn't shut their mouths."

"Woah.."

Michelle leaned over to Julia and whispered, "You must be very pissed."

Although Miles and the others could not tell any difference from Julia's usual aloof expression, Michelle could tell that her friend was really annoyed.

"I don't like ungrateful and shameless people." Julia said.

William coughed to take the attention back to him. He stood up and said, "We'll go to them and ask for volunteers."

"I'll go to the Broadcasting Station and try to restore communications." Dante said as he stood up.

William nodded. "Can you do it?"

"I can try. If you find someone with experience on this, send them there." Dante requested.

"Alright. I'll do that."

"Here. Use this to communicate with us." Dante threw one long range walkie talkie radio used by the security team to William and also passed some to the others. "Channel 14.55."

"Thank you."

Miles raised his hand. "I'll stick with Dante."

William just smiled and left with the others while Julia, Michelle, Samuel and David stayed with Miles and Dante.

"How about you guys?" Miles asked his friends. "What are you going to do?"

Samuel and David looked at each other before turning to Miles.

"Of course we'll go with you."

Miles nodded. He gave his friends a few items and potions for them to use so they should be fine.

They also left the control room and headed to the top floor where the Broadcasting Station was. Of course, there were zombies on the way and Miles helped Samuel and David to raise their levels.

Unfortunately, the station was devastated and there were no survivors present.

Dante moved to the station and immediately started typing and searching the main computer and moving the mouse with his one hand. He was also pressing buttons here and there and connected and disconnected cords a few times.

"I thought you're an instructor for Shops and Practices?" Miles asked Dante.

"Well just like I said a while back…" Dante smiled as he continued to browse the system of the computer. "...we all have our stories. This is really not my area of expertise but I can only try."

As he continued the system files, Miles asked, "So, what are you looking for?"

"I'm trying to convert that dish outside to a huge radio so that we can receive and send signals from the other stations and radio towers." Dante briefly explained.

"Oh…"

After some more minutes of tinkering, the radio was finally operational.

Chi—-iik..

"Let's check if there are stations still on air." Dante said and switched the channels many times.

And among the hundreds or even thousands of stations, there were only a handful of stations airing but instead of reporting news, they were seeking for help.

Dante sighed as they listened to a few distress calls from different channels.

"Are we gonna help them?" asked David.

Dante and Miles shook their heads at the same time.

"With our situation, it would be impossible for us to extend any help outside the campus." Miles said.

"It's best to not answer them. Even if we talk to them, we won't be able to go to their place and they also can't easily come here. If we answer their calls, promise to help and we fail to come, that's just giving them false hope. And if they survive, they might even come for revenge for abandoning them in the air. We don't want to have enemies at the moment." Dante explained in a sad tone. "After we clear the zombies and settle in, I'll check back on them and see if we can do something."

The others nodded in agreement.

"It's unfortunate but there's no station that is reporting news about the world." Dante muttered. "Even the national and government broadcasting stations are down. Something must have happened to them."

"Then we really don't have a functioning government right now?" Samuel asked.

"We should assume that's the case. Even if it's there, it must be still trying to stand from all the damages that the apocalypse had dealt and I'm sure it's significant. They might be taking their time to gather forces and plan their next steps." Dante said.

"Aahh..I thought we could finally hear some news about what's happening around the world." Miles leaned lazily on to the reclining chair.

"The stations are down but I can contact someone I know." Dante suddenly said.

Miles bolted up and said, "Really?"

"Yes. I've been wanting to contact him since I remembered this Broadcasting Station. If it's him, he might have some information about the situation of the country." Dante typed in some numbers in the computer to connect to a specific channel.

"Who is it?" Michelle asked.

"My older brother."

"Oh…"
